Reactive Or Aggressive Dog Protocol: Fill & Download for Free

There are two protocols that are very helpful for working with reactive dogs. The first is Look At That, part of Leslie McDevitt's Control Unleashed program. It uses counter conditioning and desensitization to help change how the dog feels about the things that are upsetting them. It also builds in an alternate appropriate behavior. The other is Behavioral Adjustment Training or BAT, formalized by Grisha Stewart of Ahimsa Dog Training. This protocol also changes how the dog feels about triggers, and helps to build resiliency and tolerance in the dog by changing behavior as well, but on a very subtle level.Sure we can put muzzles and harness and other pieces of equipment on a dog to 'make' them do what we want, but even better is to give them the skills they need to be in control of themselves. It requires time, training and patience, but when successful the dog has the skills and requires less control and management by us.

On Facebook, there is a group called “reactive and aggressive dogs.” Reading the files there would go a lot farther than anything I could write here.Without knowing a lot more about your dog, I would suggest that you purchase a comfortable basket muzzle for your dog. This will protect your dog, your neighbors, and your from accidents. There’s no shame in it, and you can make muzzle time fun by putting peanut butter inside for licking etc.I’d also try looking up “the protocol for relaxation” and using that process until you can get help from an animal behaviorist.I wish you the best of luck.

Neither Malinois or Pitbulls are innately aggressive. Dogs of both breeds have the potential to become aggressive if they are poorly handled or poorly socialized, particularly in the critical development period of 1–6 months.Malinois are extremely intelligent, driven and active dogs. They require a lot of exercise and training. They love to work. Pitties are generally couch potatoes and love to cuddle. However they are big strong dogs who do need exercise and they can be dog-reactive unless well socialized and trained. There is also the social stigma associated with pitbulls so if you want to keep your dog safe he must have impeccable manners whilst in public or when guests come onto your property as people tend to overreact at the slightest hint of overly forceful or robust behavior.Neither dogs are imo a good choice for a first-time dog owner unless you are willing to invest heavily (time and money) in training obedience protocols, socializing with other dogs and exercise.
