The behaviors will vary depending on the type of narcissist the child was raised around. I myself was very untrusting of people, had low self esteem and was promiscuous in my late teens/early adult life. I was self conscious from being told I was lazy and stupid throughout childhood. I was untrusting because both of my parents are narcissistic so it was a tumultuous, chaotic upbringing. I turned to sleeping around and partying to try to feel a void I felt inside from the insecurity. I was very conflicted in my feelings and honestly terrified of commitment of any kind. I didn't stay in relationships of any kind (romantic, friendship, ECT), or jobs for any length of time because I always felt like I would be let down somehow. By my late twenties/early thirties I finally found a partner that I learned to love and trust for the first time in my life. This relationship helped me cross the hurdles I had in my earlier adult life. Although, I did begin to see myself displaying narcissistic traits with my partner and had to put a stop to those traits. Depending on others, trusting people, and feeling self worth are still a struggle some days but it is getting better. From my personal experience children of narcissist will either be deeply damaged individuals or they will become narcissist as well.

My father abandoned my mother (and I) when she found out she was pregnant; he said he was scared and didn't want the commitment of a child.When my mother went home, now single, to tell her parents that she had become pregnant, she was met with (initial) disdain and anger from my grandmother, and nothing but smiles and excitement from my grandfather.I'm 3 in the photo above, and 25 in the photo below (just over 20 years!).My grandfather has been the father I never had; he is by a million miles the kindest, brightest, and warmest person I have ever known.He still spells my name with an 'e' instead of an 'i', but he used to play ‘princess tea parties' with me, throw summer BBQ parties on my birthdays, and pretend my homemade 'perfume' (petals picked from my grandmother's immaculately kept garden, put in whichever empty bottle was lying around, and mixed with tap water) was the most divine thing he'd ever smelt. (He'd then go and tidy up the garden to disguise any obvious discrepancies among the flowers).I remember his 60th birthday party clearly, so much so that, in my mind, he's always 60; unaffected by time and age.I get a twinge in my stomach with every passing birthday of his, on which I'm especially reminded that he won't be around forever.I have never felt the absence of my father, I have never felt unwanted, and I have never felt abandoned; all because of this wonderful, wonderful man.(Thank you for the upvotes and for the kindness expressed in the comments! Glad to hear that others are fortunate enough to have a similar bond with their grandparents.To answer a couple of questions:My mother has always been - and will always be - an exceptionally strong and spirited woman; she now has her own business, a beautiful family, and is doing great.My grandmother's anger was rooted in anxiety about her daughter's wellbeing at a time when there was still much prejudice towards single mothers; it was quickly taken over by excitement as my mother’s due date approached. My grandmother (“nana”) unfortunately passed away when she was just 52; I was 10 at the time.
