PDF Editor FAQ

If one were on trial by combat like in Game of Thrones and had to pick a champion to fight the Mountain, and they weren't a superhero or a god, who would be the best choice? Why?

Well, I haven’t seen Darth Vader on this list. So here he is. Welcome, to the Dark Side! Here are some of his abilities. I doubt he needs more than one to seal this battle.telekinesis: Vader could lift and move objects to their will (basic ability) (star wars episode 2) (star wars the clone wars) (star wars episode 5).lightsaber combat: Lightsaber combat referred to several schools of martial arts specialized in fighting with a lightsaber (basic ability).(all star wars movies)force choke: This was an attack via the Force that vader used to crush a living being's throat (basic ability).(star wars episode 5)force repulse:vader would concentrate in the Force and violently push it outwards, creating rapidly-expanding kinetic ripples in space, the objects caught in blast would be desintegrated and the most distant objects will be pushed violently (basic ability).(star wars the clone wars)force crush: this deadly technique lifted the opponent into the air and, as they were floating their body would implode as it was crushed by the Force. (basic ability).(star wars the clone wars) (star wars episode 3)force destruction. Usually fired through the arm or hand, it could blast a large radius vaporizing anyone who got too close to it. Even those who escaped direct contact with the blast would be pushed asunder by the power's backlash.(taken from Splinter of the Mind's Eye and star wars the force unleashed)force rage: Vader could channel his anger to increase his own speed, strength, and ferocity.(basic dark side ability).(star wars episode 3)force lightning: Vader was capable of creating this power however he rarely used it due to the risk of damage his life support system (basic dark side ability).( Splinter of the Mind's Eye)force push: Force Push was the ability to create a telekinetic impulse via the Force that would impact a target with enough force to launch it into the air (basic ability).(star wars episode 3) (star wars the clone wars)force kill: This power was used to telekinetically destroy the victims organs ( taken from shadows of the empire novel)saber throw: The Force user, whether by manually locking the blade in the 'on' position or holding in the activation button using the Force, could throw the lightsaber in a boomerang fashion, with it cutting its way through obstacles and (usually after deactivation) returning to the hand of the caster (basic ability) (star wars episode 6)levitation : Levitation was a Force power that allowed Vader to suspend himself against the force of gravity. Levitation required no direct physical contact. Using the Force, Vader could then hover in place or move about wherever he desired.(basic ability).(star wars clone wars)beast control : Beast Control was the Force ability to control an animal. Once calmed, the animal could be used by the Force user in various ways, including as a mount or guard beast.(basic ability).(star wars episode 2)protection bubble: With this ability, the user could create a defensive sphere around their body. It is described as a shimmering blue globe of energy. It could protect the user from almost anything (basic ability) (star wars episode 3 novel and video game) (star wars the clone wars)Mind tricks: refer to a spectrum of Force powers which influenced the thoughts of sentient creatures, most commonly through voice manipulation if the user would concentrate more it could destroy the victims mind (basic ability).(star wars the clone wars)force cloak: this power allowed Darth Vader to became invisible (Star Wars: The New Droid Army) (star wars the force unleashed 2)breath control: Darth Bader could literally numb the body's instinct to shut itself down after long periods without oxygen, allowing the user to be able to go without breathing for longer periods than he or she ordinarily could by using the Force to reserve the amounts of air in the lungs.(basic ability) (taken from star wars episode 1)force heal: was a power that used the Force to accelerate the natural healing process rapidly.(taken from star wars episode 3)force ghost: The Force ghost was the soul and essence of a deceased Force-sensitive who denied the will of the Force upon death, yet was able to interact with the living (taken from star wars episode 6)force speed: was Force power that allowed the user to maintain sprinting speeds for a brief time. Greater aptitude granted greater boosts to speed and/or greater duration. The increased speed of the Force-user enabled the individual to see the world and the entities around them in slow motion, allowing them to dodge attacks easily and attack quicker with greater accuracy.(basic ability) (taken from star star wars the clone wars) (taken from star wars episode 3)force sense: Force sense was among the most basic of Force abilities. It could be used to feel another being's feelings, the future, ripples in the Force caused by momentous or traumatic events, impending danger and the presence of the dark side.(basic ability) (star wars episode 3)precognition: The ability of foresight was perhaps universal to Force-sensitives and was manifested in the form of Force visions of future events, and helped the user predict their opponent's movements (basic ability) (star wars episode 3)Telepathy: was the very basic ability to mentally communicate over small or vast distances with other individuals. (basic ability) (star wars episode 5)force deflection: it allowed the user to deflect almost anything with the force (basic ability) (star wars episode 5)Tutaminis: (energy absorption) : it was a force power that allowed Vader to absorb any kind of energy (Darth Vader and the cry of the shadows 5) (star wars clone wars)force jump: it allowed Vader to just large distances with little effort (basic ability) (star wars the clone wars)Force Stun: was a Force power that could temporarily deaden the senses and perceptions of a targeted enemy, preventing most movements (basic ability) (star wars the clone wars)mind control: was the dark side equivalent of the Jedi mind trick, though mind control was much more invasive, being a Sith power. It took complete control of the mind(s) of the victim(s) affected by the power.(basic dark side ability) (star wars the force unleashed 1 and 2)Kinetite: was a variation on the Force lightning ability. It involved molding "Force energized lightning" into a sphere of restrained kinetic energy which could be thrown at an enemy. Instead of burning or electrocuting it's target like most forms of Force lightning, it acted as a solid projectile. (taken from Splinter of the Mind's Eye)

What will happen if the Sirius star replaces our Sun for an hour?

Sirius is just over twice the mass of the sun, so it would definitely change Earth’s orbit, pulling us in a little closer, even it was just for an hour.Twice the mass doesn't mean twice the burn though. The rate at which a star burns it's fuel goes up exponentially as the mass increases, so that puppy is a whopping 25 times more luminous than the sun! An hour of that would be enough to boil the surface of the oceans. Anything organic on land will be turned to ash in a matter of seconds. Any bacterial life that survives will be several meters below the ground.Ocean life might fare a little better. I doubt any mammals would survive, as they would have to dive and hold their breath for a lot more than an hour. The ocean would kill any whales and dolphins who needed air because they would be scorched for several days at least when they tried to rise up.Fortunately, all the malls in Phoenix have really good air conditioning, so there may be a few shoppers left. JK. They're toast too.EDIT:Thanks everyone. I'm getting upvtoes pretty fast on this one, so I'd like to explore the concept a little more. What about the other half of the globe? Let's suppose we have some fearless entrepreneurs with every advantage in a bunker somewhere. They have a few thousand members, so their gene pool could survive without too many copy errors. They have a year or more of oxygen and food to get by. Lots of board games, etc. That first hour of super sunshine would wreak havoc on their side of the world as well. A lot of the atmospheric oxygen would ignite on the day side, so there would be about ten thousand level five hurricanes filling the void, spreading outward from the opposite side for a few months as the atmosphere stabilized. The pressure outside will be a lot lower, which is conducive to stormy weather. On top of that, the boiling oceans would add a great deal of water vapor to the air. The Earth would no longer be blue seen from space. It would be bright white from the reflection of the cloud cover. That reflection would help immensely in the next year as less sunshine from regular old Sol could penetrate to the surface. A lot of its heat would be reflected back into space. Let's assume also that the orbit of earth stabilizes quickly to it's previously assigned path. With all this in mind, could humans survive?A year passes. Our intrepid bunker folk are no fools. They take pressurized samples from the surface and discover that despite the pressure being lower, there is also only about 10% oxygen mixed in with the nitrogen and other gasses. Perhaps, if they're lucky, the sudden radiation blast from a year ago has left the atmosphere clean enough to breathe without dire consequences. Sea level atmosphere is down by more than half with low oxygen to boot, despite the thick fog, so it would be like living on a high mountain, difficult to breathe easily, but not overwhelming as long they keep pressurized canisters handy to get a boost every now and then. All food sources would have to come from from the ocean, so their diet would be rich in seaweed and fish. Here on the dark side, there may even be whales and dolphins left over to add to their lunch.Bacterial regrowth would be slow at first, so every breath would be crisp and clean, but after another few years, all those rotting carcasses on the beach would decay very suddenly, bringing disease and stench. Fisherman would head out for their catch in hazmat suits. The burst of decay, however, could help with oxygen. The ocean surface would be covered in so much seaweed that you could practically walk on it. A century or more could bring O levels up enough to make breathing canisters unnecessary. Assuming our clever hiders had enough sense to pack seeds along with their board games, a millenia long process of seeding the land would be under way. No bugs or animals are left, so pesticides and fences wouldn't be needed for crops, though it would be very tedious to distribute pollen without machines designed to wander amongst the stale brush, tickling random flowers. With a great deal of luck and foresight, it seems, humans could go on.

The USA is now #1 in new coronavirus cases. How does that make you feel?

Note: Not an American, simply a concerned observer.I can’t say I’m surprised. This is, sadly, a perfect storm to affect the US.The US, as a society, is a lot more individualistic than other countries. This makes support for collective action harder to obtain[1].The US, as a society, has historically low levels of belief in the federal government. Shutting down the country may be an epidemiological solution, but its implementation is a political problem. Political pressures are different around the country: strong trust in the federal government, and a central agency taking decisive action, could be golden in a country with 50 states, 50 different levels of understanding of the crisis, and 50 different political wills. The American media landscape is sharply fractured. Beliefs in different media sources are almost mirror images of each other: not only do Democrats not trust Republicans’ news sources, they actively distrust them, and vice versa. In the absence of trust in the federal government, and in the absence of strong central messaging (something that is really not a strength of the current administration), any differences in coverage are amplified if there are no sources of information everyone trusts.(Your Small Ray of Hope for Today (TM): Nobody trusts BuzzFeed.)This, combined with several other factors[2], results in something incredible: opinion about a pandemic affecting millions around the globe is divided along partisan lines.Lastly, and most importantly, even if the federal government wanted to take action, the state model of the US uniquely handicaps it[3] in the events of nationwide disasters like this.It might be the way the US’ laws are written, but sadly, the virus doesn’t give a fuck. The truth is, leaving action in cases like this to the state or local level creates discrepancies[4] in the level of action. That’s not good - at all.Let me explain this point properly, because it has huge consequences. As of March 30th, 2020, this is the spread of reported Coronavirus cases[5] in the US:(Source linked as footnote)A reminder, at this point, that detection of cases is often delayed by about two weeks, and that testing has only now being ramped up and is still catching up.Here is the current state of lockdowns or stay-at-home orders[6], as of March 30th, 2020:(Source: New York Times)And this is a completely expected consequence of leaving action on a pandemic to the state or local level. Local politics is, by nature, shortsighted in both space and time. It has to be. Central authority is needed for this exact purpose, to see far-reaching consequences and direct states to follow suit, especially so that a moving, all-encompassing disaster like this one doesn’t become a slow-motion train wreck.Let’s take an example. Florida reported its first Coronavirus case on March 1. As of today, Coronavirus cases are almost all over the state. Here’s a map of the spread across Florida:(Source: Florida Department of Health Dashboard[7])As of March 31st, after 5,074 cases, the governor has put out shelter-in-place orders in exactly the four hardest-hit counties - Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe. (These are the four deep blue counties to the extreme South tip of Florida in the map above.)In the middle of the best season for business in Florida, I imagine that there's immense pressure on him to not take that action. I don't envy him those decisions at all.And that’s exactly why it shouldn’t be up to him.If you follow along with what has been about three weeks of the pandemic in the US (the site linked lets you move a slider and see how the cases have grown in different parts of the country), you can see the problem with this approach. Cases often jump from city to city, like seeds being carried on the wind, sprout there, and spring offshoots all around themselves, until the whole of the US looks like a field of red flowers in bloom. The current patchwork is not a good approach for this problem, because it’s relying on the foresight of every community to take action at once on a problem that may be far away from it, that grows exponentially instead of linearly, and that necessitates immediate discomfort and economic cost, for preventing a future problem that may or may not arrive. Humans can sometimes be arsed to move out of the way when there is a hurricane coming right their way, right now. This particular combination of factors is simply not something we’re naturally geared to tackle (something that arguably hampers our response to problems like global warming). What you’re seeing in different places, where restrictions are put in place in a county, and only in the county, after cases are found there - is exactly the natural human response. (Not even that, sometimes- hi Alabama!) The incubation period of this virus means that, if you’re playing catch-up after cases like this, you’re about two weeks behind the ball. Here’s the thing: In an epidemic, a society is only as strong as its weakest link. In a country of the scale at which the US is, which is one huge chain, it is all the more important to protect the weakest links through centralised action, and the US’ patchwork response is not enough. What you’re seeing is, sadly, not unexpected.TL;DR: As a society, as a political system, and as a country, the US is not naturally well positioned to deal with this crisis. Its current administration is not well equipped to overcome this natural disadvantage. The current situation is a sad result of that.Footnotes[1] https://eml.berkeley.edu/~groland/pubs/IEA%20papervf.pdf[2] Israel Ramirez's post in Left Brain[3] Why There’s No National Lockdown[4] Lockdowns, closures: How is each US state handling coronavirus?[5] CORONAVIRUS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW - National Governors Association[6] See Which States and Cities Have Told Residents to Stay at Home[7] Experience

After removing their Filmora software, not only was an advertising popup left in my start up items, but my keyboard and mouse began to behave erratically. Cursor keystrokes would fire of their own accord and the mouse would arbitrarily double-click. After doing a clean-up manually, this behaviour ceased. The CocoDoc installation packages likely install a key-logging HID proxy that happens to be buggy. AVOID.
