What are the most honest and transparent charities?

The above is an example of the Samaritan House, Catholic Charities.Brother&Brother FoundationRun from a graffiti-scarred neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Brother’s Brother delivers medicine and educational supplies worldwide, a mission that hasn’t changed much since its start in 1958. This is a family-run affair: Luke L. Hingson, the current chief, is the son of the organization’s founder. Brother’s Brother has been leading a push among gift-in-kind charities–nonprofits that receive more resources as donated goods than they do cash–for greater truth when accounting for those donated goods. (Among the problems, as reported by FORBES last year, some charities were wildly inflating the value of donated pills, making their operations look deceptively efficient.) Brother’s Brother is efficient, with only 16 full-time workers. Donations ($241 million last year) were steady through the recession, even as donors pulled back from many charities. “We haven’t had a lot of financial pressure, so it’s allowed us to take on some harder projects,” says Hingson. It’s now delivering supplies to 100 African hospitals, up from 4 two years ago.JDRFSome single-disease charities spend a lot of money soliciting contributions by mail. JDRF (it recently renamed itself from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to reflect the varied ages of Type 1 diabetes patients) holds down costs by relying on a network of volunteers–everyone from InternationalChairman Mary Tyler Moore to “advocates” who lobby Congress for diabetes funding to elementary school kids taking part in the fundraising walks that helped it raise $198 million last year. CEO Jeffrey Brewer touts new Web tools for volunteers. Meanwhile, JDRF directs its big bucks to medical research. These are recommended by Forbes and here is the full list from a reputable source.[1]Footnotes[1] Forbes Picks 5 All-Star Charities: Top Rankings For Efficient Groups

What is something horrifying you found at a thrift shop?

Not a thrift shop, but a charity shop I used to volunteer and do deliveries for.I used to have a small “business” where I'd do small deliveries and orders for stores in my village and get paid a small shipping fee. I'd deliver all kinds of things, like cakes from the bakery for the school's bake sale, charity bags to the charity shops, etc.The village was very, very remote with only about 50 residents, but the school there was pretty big and had roughly 300 students everyday from the surrounding villages. I also made deliveries from town to town due to me being the only young person able to drive.Anyway, so one day I was volunteering as a merchandise handler for the charity shop in my town. The rules for taking things for yourself boiled down to “if you like it, take it”.I was sorting through the donated goods, when I found a relatively new laptop and I was desperately looking for a new one. I asked my “boss” (we were all equal in the shop and our jobs rotated) if I can have it. She was a sweet old woman who lived in that village probably the longest and knew no one would have much use for it (the population was mainly older people, the youngest person besides me was 38), but said if it was still there on Friday (it was Monday) I could take it, as usually the students at the school would go into the charity shop during lunchtime, while waiting for the bus, etc so maybe they would buy it/need it. I put a £35 tag on it and put it in the gadgets section and went back to sorting. I would have bought it for myself, but it didn't come with a mouse or charging cable, and at the time I wouldn't have been able to afford all three. So Friday comes… And it was still there! Well, my boss actually took it off the shelf and placed it back in the storage room with a note saying “It’s all yours!”. I put it my locker, worked my shift, went to pick up some charity bags and then took the laptop home and ordered a cable from Amazon. Two days later, I put the charger in and it actually charges! An hour later, it's fully charged and ready for use.I switch it on and there's already an account on it. I thought that's a bit odd, but the laptop was likely a gift to an older person who barely used it as there wasn't even a password to the account. I logged in and found it was set to a different language, Polish. I thought it that was odd too as no Polish people lived in that village. I tried looking for a tutorial on how to change the system language (and how to factory reset) but all I could find were grainy YouTube videos that my poor WiFi couldn't handle.I decided to just make do and go and install all the software I needed and let it install overnight. The next day I tested how well it ran Photoshop. I wish I didn't.I clicked File then Open, and was completely horrified by what I saw. Hundreds of images of the most horrible things. Gore and child pornography.I literally vomited, there and then. I shut down the laptop and sat on my bed just staring at the wall. It was the most horrific thing I had ever seen, and I felt dirty even though I only saw those things for a second before clicking off. I went to the bathroom and scrubbed my hands clean, knowing a disgusting person had touched the keyboard and trackpad.I got my notebook and tried to remember which house I picked the laptop up from, but realised someone might have donated it in person.I called the police and had to go to the station to drop the laptop off for evidence. I gave them a photocopy of the addresses I picked up from for the last two weeks and alerted them to the CCTV in the shop. They told me if they found the culprit I would not be informed.Well, the thing about living in a teeny village is that everyone talks. I was informed but not by the police. A Polish couple in the neighbouring village had been arrested on possession of indecent images of minors echoed through the streets. Most of the elders didn't know what that charge meant, and I overheard one asking what's the big deal.

For the price, I think you will not find anything better. I needed help recently to figure out how to do something, and Diana helped me very quickly and it worked. I have done a few fairly complicated videos in my time with Filmora, and I think Filmora 9 is much better than when I started with Filmora 8. But they both were quite good. Filmora 9 is much more "sophisticated" in my opinion. Still, it is very easy and intuitive to use. I really think that for MOST people, you will accomplish all you want to do with Filmora 9. And if you have a problem, the people are friendly and nice that will be assisting you. So just stick with it, if you get a bit discouraged as you begin! All worthwhile things take a bit of learning to get good at them. This is the same way, but it is well worth the effort. It is surprisingly capable for the price. I think you will learn to love it, if you just keep practicing with all that Filmora has to offer. And their team will always be there to help if you need it. That is how I feel about Filmora 9. I think it is great editing software. Jim W.
