Write up is a very crucial part of the selection procedure for ias srfp and the thing which will make it a winning step for you is its uniqueness which will be blocked if you will try to follow someone else's write up. Just try to express your research interest in the best possible way. Being an undergraduate student no one will expect you to be a master of your field, what matters is how you express your interest so that person reading it can clearly understand what you intend to do. If you have done some work in the field as well it'll be an added bonus. Be specific about your field of interest or particular sub-field in that interest.

Thanks for the A2A. I recently had an offer from Amazon Machine Learning group for the position of Senior Data Scientist. However, I have joined a very small start up. I had a weird experience of the interview. I would try to put down my experience.The first 2 rounds were very hands-on. They share an URL which can be co-edited and ask you to write simple codes in R, Python, C++. One can use SAS as well. Some basic SQL join knowledge helps.In the first 2 rounds they ask a few very simple Probability questionsOnce you do decently in the first 2 rounds, you have 1-2 rounds around your machine learning experience.In the Machine learning interview, they concentrate on the very basics. Things such as:BootstrappingConfidence Intervals and their significancehow over sampling workssignificance of the ROC curve and how to interpret a ROC curveHow Random forest worksPractical experience about Overfitting and UnderfittingPractical experience about variable selectionBasics of Logistic Regression5. They give an idea about some of the Machine Learning stuff that they are doing and frame a question around it.Once you get through these rounds, you go for a couple of face to face rounds which are relatively easy.Best of luck for your interviews.

The daughter of friends of mine does precisely this, though I don't think she would call herself a penguinologist!She did a first degree in Zoology. Then a Master's degree. Then a PhD (I'm not sure if she's finished that, yet). Then she got the opportunity to spend six months in Antarctica observing penguins, so she did that, following them, tracking them, and collecting and analysing samples of penguin poo (very messy and smelly, apparently). It's all part of working out what exactly they're eating, where it comes from, and so on.Then she spends six months back in Cambridge, analysing and writing up her findings, and back to the Antarctic again.
