I want to believe the trump* administration when they gave the press briefing on coronavirus but am having trouble believing what they say. Anyone else feel the same?

QuestionI want to believe the trump* administration when they gave the press briefing on coronavirus but am having trouble believing what they say. Anyone else feel the same?Yes you're not alone. And also you're wise to follow that inner voice. Everything he said himself at that news conference was pretty much a lie.He chose people he thought would say exactly what he wanted to be said to back up his claims. I don't think that worked out as well as he expected. As they weren't exactly in agreement. He said there were about 10 cases. That's not true. I would say it's closer to 60. And now there is a case in California where they're not sure where the person picked up the virus. But we know now that this virus sticks to surfaces, I believe it's airborne, and that's from my medical experience, and watching what's going on. But before I get in trouble I'll State why I think it's airborne. Two people living 10 floors apart and never coming in contact with one another caught the disease. One actually already had it. The only way it could have gotten from one place to the other was, they say an opening in a pipe. Airborne.I'm going to use this link instead of a bunch of different links to help explain this, and why you shouldn't listen to Trump on medical matters. They're already getting chewed out by the Republican John Kennedy today in a session.John Kennedy wanted to know why they didn't bring in the respiratory infection specialist instead of using the people they did. And for a change, I absolutely agree with him.And we really can't trust everything that comes out of China either. And by that I mean it's probably much worse than what they're making it out to be. It is on every continent in the world except Antarctica. And the reality of it all is, it's not if it spreads across the United States, its when. And since its Discovery it has spread extremely fast across the world.A newly identified coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (formerly 2019-nCoV) has been spreading in China, and has now reached multiple other countries. Here's what you need to know about the virus and the disease it causes, called COVID-19.Update on Wednesday, Feb. 26 (ET):—A new case of coronavirus has been confirmed in California, "in a person who reportedly did not have relevant travel history or exposure to another known patient with COVID-19," the CDC said Feb. 26. This could be the first U.S. instance of community spread of COVID-19, meaning the source of infection is unknown, the CDC said. That's bad. See this virus can be picked up just from borrowing someone's pin who has it, that may not show symptoms yet.—There are now 15 cases of coronavirus in the U.S. detected through surveillance, and 45 cases among Americans who were "repatriated" to the U.S. from Wuhan or the Diamond Princess cruise ship.Does that sound like 10 cases to you as Trump said yesterday? Trump's worried about the stock market. Not people, and he should be worried about people, and not the stock market. Although the stock market dropped 1200 more points today.—For the first time since the outbreak began, there have been more cases of COVID-19 reported outside of China than from China, WHO said on Wednesday (Feb. 26). In the past 24 hours, there were 459 cases reported outside China, and 412 cases reported from China, according to WHO.—The first clinical trial in the U.S. to evaluate a treatment for COVID-19 has begun, according to the NIH. The trial will test an antiviral drug called remdesivir in hospitalized adults with COVID-19. The first study participant is an American who caught the disease while onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship, and is being treated at University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC).—In just days, cases of coronavirus in South Korea have skyrocketed to about 1,261, with 12 deaths there linked to the virus. Many of the cases are members of, or somehow linked to, a secret religious sect called Shincheonji Church of Jesus, The New York Times reported.—Outbreaks of COVID-19 have also been unfolding in Italy and Iran; 322 confirmed cases have been reported in Italy, where 10 deaths have been linked to the virus, and 139 cases have been reported in Iran, where 19 individuals have died. Iran's Deputy Health Minister has also tested positive for the virus, the Times reported.—About 81,187 confirmed coronavirus cases (primarily in mainland China), according to the Johns Hopkins virus dashboard.—2,768 deaths have been linked to the virus. Deaths worldwide exceed those from SARS. 27,840 individuals have recovered after having a confirmed case of the disease.—About 53 deaths have been linked to the virus outside of mainland China, including in Italy, Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, France and four Diamond Princess passengers.—The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting COVID-19 is up to 20 times more deadly than the flu, with a fatality rate of about 2.3% (in the U.S., seasonal flu's fatality rate is about 0.1%), the Times reports. Now you see the difference in the death rate from the flu, to this particular virus. It can be devastating or could be devastating. We just don't know yet. What viruses love to do most is mutate. Sometimes they mutate in a good way and go away. Sometimes they mutate in a bad way and any vaccine you may have found that works won't work anymore.I'm not trying to scare people I'm trying to make you understand that you can't listen to what Trump says. He does not have a medical degree, any more than he knows better than everybody else on everything, like he thinks he does.LATEST NEWS'Superspreader' in South Korea infects nearly 40 peopleCoronavirus 'spike' protein mapped, leading way to vaccineNew coronavirus may spread through poopHow does the new coronavirus compare with the flu?How long can the new coronavirus last on surfaces? You see, some viruses can spread before symptoms are evident. Not a good thing. We need to know these things for sure. And we need people that know what they're doing heading this up. More on that later.—More than 600 individuals onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship off Japan tested positive for the coronavirus. There were 3,700 passengers and crew on the ship when it first docked off Japan. The fourth person infected while aboard the ship is reported to have died.—The WHO has now replaced the temporary name for the disease with an official name: Corona Virus Disease, abbreviated as COVID-19.—The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses has named the virus "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2," due to its genetic similarity to the virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).NUMBER OF CORONAVIRUS CASESMainland China: 78,497South Korea: 1,766Others: 705 (including Diamond Princess passengers)Italy: 528Japan: 189Iran: 245Singapore: 93Hong Kong: 92U.S.: 60Kuwait: 43Thailand: 40Bahrain: 33Taiwan: 32Germany: 26Australia: 23Malaysia: 22France: 18Vietnam: 16UK: 15Spain: 15United Arab Emirates: 13Canada: 11Macau: 10Iraq: 6Oman: 4Switzerland: 4Philippines: 3India: 3Israel: 3Austria: 3Croatia: 3Greece: 3Russia: 2Finland: 2Sweden: 2Lebanon: 2Pakistan: 2Afghanistan: 1Nepal: 1Cambodia: 1Algeria: 1Belgium: 1Egypt: 1Sri Lanka: 1Brazil:1Romania: 1Estonia: 1North Macedonia: 1Denmark: 1Georgia: 1Norway: 1And as I stated at the beginning, Trump can't be trusted on this. Here it is from a scientific journal. And that is, will it spread in the United States. Will coronavirus spread in the U.S.?On Feb. 25, U.S. officials said it's no longer a matter of "if" but "when" the new coronavirus will spread in the United States.See unlike president know-it-all, it's when, not if, but when.Recent reports of increased community spread of the virus outside of China, including in South Korea, Iran and Italy, have "raised our level of concern and raised our level of expectation that we are going to have community spread here" in the U.S., Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said in a news briefing on Feb. 25.The CDC is recommending that people begin to plan for such an event by taking steps such as asking school systems what their strategy will be to mitigate the spread. For example, schools might consider dividing students into smaller groups or even using internet-based teleschooling, she said. On a larger scale, communities and cities may need to change or postpone mass gatherings, she added."Now's the time for businesses, hospitals, community schools and everyday people to begin preparing," Messonnier said.I believe Doctor Messonnier, is the Doctor John Kennedy was upset about, wondering why she wasn't allowed to speak at yesterday's less than honest press conference. If I have the doctor wrong, correct me.How many coronavirus cases are in the US?As of Feb. 26, there are 60 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the United States, according to the CDC. These include 15 cases detected in the U.S. through public health surveillance, and 45 cases among U.S. citizens who were repatriated into the country from Wuhan or the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Some person-to-person spread of SARS-CoV-2 has been seen in the U.S. among close contacts of people returning from Wuhan, but the virus is not currently spreading in the community here, according to the CDC.And no communal spreading is good news. But:Newly emerged viruses like SARS-CoV-2 are always of public health concern, according to the CDC. It's unclear how the situation with this virus in the U.S. will unfold, the agency says. What's the death rate from COVID-19?The largest study on COVID-19 cases to date provides new details on the severity of the illness, including its death rate and who is most susceptible. The study researchers, from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, analyzed information from 44,672 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in China that were reported between Dec. 31, 2019 and Feb. 11, 2020. Among these cases, there were 1,023 deaths, resulting in an overall death rate of 2.3%.That's much higher than the death rate of flu, which is around 0.1% in the U.S., according to The New York Times. However, the new study found that the death rate from COVID-19 varied by location. In Hubei Province, where the outbreak began, the death rate was 2.9%, compared with just 0.4% in other provinces — a 7-fold difference. The study also showed that older adults have been hit hardest by COVID-19. Among those ages 80 and older, the death rate was 14.8%, compared with 8.0% for those ages 70 to 79; 3.6% for those ages 60 to 69; 1.3% for those ages 50 to 59; 0.4% for those ages 40 to 49, and 0.2% for those ages 10 to 39. No deaths have been reported among children from birth to age 9.Generally a serious flu outbreak affects the youngest and the oldest the worst. This one seems to be all over the board. I don't know how to do this on here but I'll try to explain it. If you used it waveform chart to show deaths compared to age, a normal flu outbreak would start high on the chart and make a waveform that goes from up to down curving back up again to the oldest people. But on this virus there's no deaths from 0 to 9 so far, so the chart would start at the bottom and rise in a line going up. Kind of like climate science says the CO2 rises. Rising up until the oldest of us are hit the hardest. 14% death rate is high. 3% is too high for a normal flu. As the flu has 0.1% death rate. However, some experts have estimated that the number of COVID-19 cases could be much higher than what has been officially tracked and reported, according to the BBC. If that's the case, then the death rate could be lower than what's reported in this study. But the death rate out of China could also be false. We just don't know because China they're kind of greedy with all of this because, well I don't know. I guess I wouldn't want to be a country that started a pandemic that devastated the planet. But there are conspiracy theorists out there that are already claiming this was made in the lab. And they're actually is a viral lab in Wuhan. Why did coronavirus cases spike? On Feb. 12, the Hubei Province, where the outbreak began in Wuhan, officials have decided to consider a "clinical" diagnosis for the new coronavirus. That means these individuals who may have tested negative on the current diagnostic test (called a nucleic acid test) but show all of the coronavirus symptoms will be classified as confirmed cases. In that way, the Hubei Province Health Committee said, "patients can receive standardized treatment according to confirmed cases as early as possible to further improve the success rate of treatment."With that new criteria, the province added 14,840 cases of coronavirus to the total in a day. Will the coronavirus die down by the summer? We don't know yet. Most respiratory viruses, such as flu viruses, are seasonal. We generally know when the peak of flu season will be and can expect the number of flu cases to drop down as we head toward spring and summer, said Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases in a news conference on Feb. 12. But for the new virus, "I think it's premature to assume that," she said. If this new virus behaves similarly to flu viruses, we may see less infections as spring and summer roll around. "But this is a new disease, we haven't even been through six weeks of it much less a year," Messonnier said. Though hoping the numbers will go down as warm weather approaches, "the aggressive actions we're taking are because we don't think we can count on that."Unlike what Trump would have you to believe as you just read. You can't be sure what this new virus may do. I will leave a link below for the Spanish flu. A pandemic which wiped out large populations in the world, about 665,000 died in the US alone. And it started in April, when it was warm, in the spring. And by November was killing people within 3 days. Just the opposite of what Trump said. You know, doctor know it all.Hundreds of U.S. citizens who were evacuated from Wuhan or the Diamond Princess cruise ship were also placed under mandatory quarantine at several U.S. military bases.Does the coronavirus have an official name?(Image credit: Shutterstock)On Feb. 11, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced the official name of the new disease caused by the novel coronavirus: Corona Virus Disease, abbreviated as COVID-19. "Having a name matters to prevent the use of other names that can be inaccurate or stigmatizing. It also gives us a standard format to use for any future coronavirus outbreaks," Ghebreyesus said.WHO discourages naming new viruses after geographic locations, people, species or classes of animals or foods, according to the organization's Best Practices for the Naming of New Human Infectious Diseases. Rather, WHO encourages use of descriptive terms of a disease, such as "respiratory disease" and "neurologic syndrome," as well as "severe" or "progressive." The organization also says that if a pathogen is known, it should be used as part of the disease's name. The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses is tasked with giving the virus an official name. On Feb. 11, the committee said the virus will be known as "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2," or SARS-CoV-2, due to its genetic similarity to the virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), according to Science Magazine. What is a coronavirus?Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause respiratory illnesses such as the common cold, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most people get infected with coronaviruses at one point in their lives, but symptoms are typically mild to moderate. In some cases, the viruses can cause lower-respiratory tract illnesses such as pneumonia and bronchitis. These viruses are common amongst animals worldwide, but only a handful of them are known to affect humans. Rarely, coronaviruses can evolve and spread from animals to humans. This is what happened with the coronaviruses known as the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-Cov), both of which are known to cause more severe symptoms. How does the coronavirus spread between people?(Image credit: Shutterstock)Researchers are still working to understand exactly how SARS-CoV-2 spreads. But in general, the The most common way coronaviruses spread is through respiratory droplets produced from coughs and sneezes, according to the CDC. Tests have also found the virus present in patients' stool, suggesting it may be able to spread through fecal contamination. However, it is still unclear whether people can catch the virus by touching contaminated surfaces, the CDC says. Now compare the following to what Trump has said.On Jan. 30, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the new coronavirus outbreak is a public health emergency of international concern. The main reason for the declaration is concern that the virus could spread to countries with weaker health systems, WHO saidIs there an imminent vaccine As Trump has said? There is no vaccine for the new coronavirus, but researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health confirmed they were in preliminary stages of developing one. Officials plan to launch a phase 1 clinical trial of a potential vaccine within the next few months, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in a news conference on Jan. 28.Researchers are also working on gathering samples of the virus to design a therapy that will train patients' immune cells to detect and destroy the virus, Facui said. And here's some information you can actually trust. How to protect yourself and your families. How can people protect themselves and others? The best way to prevent infection with COVID-19 is to avoid being exposed to the virus, according to the CDC. In general, the CDC recommends the following to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses: Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands; avoid close contact with people who are sick; stay home when you are sick and clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.People who traveled to China and became sick with fever, cough or difficulty breathing within the following two weeks should seek medical care right away, and call ahead to inform medical staff about their recent travel, the CDC said. The CDC does not recommend face masks for people who are well and without symptoms. The agency does recommend face masks for people who show symptoms of the virus and those taking care of someone sick with the virus (including health care workers).Coronavirus cases exceed 82,000 worldwide: Live updates on COVID-19So back to more on that later.Mike Pence has absolutely no business heading up this possible pandemic. It should be someone in the medical field such as a doctor of respiratory illnesses are someone with equal knowledge of viruses and viral diseases.I mean Mike Pence doesn't have a good record on healthcare in his own state. We need healthcare experts working on this. Which brings me to my last link. On the Spanish flu. Although from the past, I suggest reading it because we're way overdue. There's so much more I could talk about such as transmission from humans back to animals back to humans which can be terribly bad because usually mutations happen when that happens. Further reinforcing the fact we need experts, working on this. The Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, the deadliest in history, infected an estimated 500 million people worldwide—about one-third of the planet's population—and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims, including some 675,000 Americans.Oct 12, 2010History Channel › world-war-iSpanish Flu - Symptoms, How It Began & Ended - HISTORYMy memory was only 10,000 deaths off in the United States from the Spanish flu so my memories not too bad. That proves my point we can't take anything for granted. And we don't need someone heading this up that could turn this political. As the stock market drops, Trumplestiltskins knees knock. We need healthcare strivers, not healthcare deniers. This is Trump's economy, going down the tubes this week. Not real good for someone who's facing re-election. Especially piled onto all the other crap that he's done since he's taken office. President impeached anyone. So who do you want to trust, you ask yourself. A politician who's got a election coming up, and didn't even ask for near enough money to handle this situation. Maybe because he's already given it all away to very wealthy people. Are do you trust experts in their field of virology and Medicine.I'll take the medical experts all day long. Thanks for the a2a.
