I am a 27 year old Male from Kollam,Kerala.I am currently having zero salary in hand. Yes you heard it right.Then you will be wondering why I am answering this,coz I have done a variety of jobs in this small career which I still believes is YET TO START.I did my BTech in Civil Engg from College of Engineering Trivandrum(top engineering college in kerala) in 2012 with out any backlogs and placed in CTS( 3.25LPA), but my first salary came from working on a internship during BTech,which was Rs.500( officialy my first salary ) . lets come back to the story, I came out with full confidence after btech,dreaming of joing CTS in some metro cities and so.July 2012 The joining letter didnt came even after two months to the college,I started getting frustrated with the questions I was facing.Having thought for long,I thought I will stick to my core field and dropped the CTS plan.Started looking for construction jobs and with someone’s recommendations I got into one as site engineer with Rs.3500(second salary). The job was tiresome and was again to the frustration zone, In between I got a job as Assistant Professor in a nearby private engg college with a whooping 4times my last salary Rs.15000(third salary). Spend there almost 7 months and then AICTE made it compulsory to have MTech for teaching,I quit the job before they eliminated.July 2013, I was jobless again and again made mind to join construction industry. But it wasnot easy,tried job sites,companies portal and linkedin,even took premium membership in freshersworld( its a waste of time,all I got was some bangalore based consultants calling for some data entry jobs). Thought of changing from Kollam to Trivandrum for better prospects. Took a friends bike and went door to door on every companies listed for two days .No response but then one day a company called and gave job with salary of Rs.8000(third salary).April 2014,Moved to one of the most prominent builder with a salary of Rs.14000 (fourth salary)at first which was hiked to Rs. 16800 by April 2015. In between I got married and felt that life has got little bit settled and then tried to write GATE for pursuing M Tech,which I thought will boost my job prospects and thoughts of getting placed.July 2015 I cracked GATE with good score and got admission to NIT Calicut. I didnt get my choice branch still I was happy to pursue MTech which I always dreamt of. Though MTech Civil placements are very rare,during our time alteast 3 core companies came,to which I couldnot even attend the interview due to AGE and BTech GPA problem.Came out as jobless and again in frustration zone.Lessons LearntBe career focused and fix what you want to do.Unless you work hard and got experience,higher qualifications doesnot matterAlmost all the big companies never check their career portal and usualy takes peoples with recommendationsBeing a civil engineer,first few years are the worst onesNever lose Hope,keep struggling and keep knocking that door of opportunities, ONE DAY IT WILL DEFINITELY OPEN.Waiting for the dayAll the bestFirst 300 upvotes,thanks QuoransEdit 1 Guys atlast the day has come. I got my offer letter from NATPAC, Trivandrum for the interview I attended last july(even before writing this answer)and now coming to the main part.,Yeah I now have a salary in hand.Thanks a lot

Well me!! Not much.Student type - Civil Engineer,Average middle bencher, repeatably failed to leave a mark in academics nor other activities throughout the academic career.I did my BTech in 2012 and MTech in 2017, took a 3 year long gap after Btech.Peoples usually does that when they have a good job , have family commitments, went to pursue MBA etc. In my case it was that I failed to clear GATE in between.I was working as a site engineer and what made me to think about MTech is that the salary was very poor and work timings were night mare. (works usually gets till midnight as the workers get extra bata , and I get free food..) All of my batch mates were PG by then and my insecurity and peer pressure started to hit me hard . Anyhow I cracked GATE and with dreams of a better life and career I did my MTech from NIT C.The first thing I researched after joining was the past year placement. It really give a cold burn as the placements were mere. Expert suggestions were that if you do internship from a good company you have high chances that they will absorb you.I did internship from L&T and left that place thinking to come back next year. So the placement started .L&T was the only core company which came and I thought that's my chance but as per their HR policy I could not even attend the test due to the age restriction they put for PG T.Many companies came for CSE, ECE peoples and some got good packages too. Finally it was the procession of deemed universities with fixed 40k per month package and many guys settled to being professors though their dreams were different while they joinedI forwarded my resumes to all those peoples whom my guide knew through all his years under his recommendation . The response was NO VACANCY.I warmed my home for 7 months before I got a govt job on contract basis .Working on a salary which is at par with the Site job salary if I have continued there.As someone have answered it's just a degree, nothing much matter with that. Every NIT have the same placement stats excpet NIT Trichy which have more core placement's.Happy MTeching!!!
