PDF Editor FAQ
If you are strongly anti-abortion, how many unwanted children have you adopted? How many pregnant teens have you personally helped? Or do you think it is enough to vote for politicians who you think will appoint judges to make abortion illegal?
Number one, this is a tired, old ad-hominem argument that places the focus on a set group of people and what they do, or do not do- rather than the actual issue. IF abortion does take the life of an innocent human being (defined here as a fertilized egg, at whatever stage of development, residing in the womb of a woman), AND we, as a society, have a standard that says innocent human beings are worthy of protection from harm whenever possible; THEN, abortion is the willful act of destruction-even murder-of a human life that has committed no crime worthy of death. It stands alone. It’s either true, or false. Whether or not you or I or anyone who is morally opposed to abortion actually performs some act that facilitates a woman being able to overcome those socio-economic barriers has nothing to do with the hard truth that pro-life people have come to understand: Abortion stops a beating heart. It ends the life of a human being. And as our Declaration of Independence states, we have the “unalienable” right to LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (notice it says “pursuit”-no guarantees here).Let’s look at it this way. Suppose I see a child drowning in a lake, and my friend jumps in there and saves that child. Most people would be quite moved by such a feat. She saved that baby’s life! Yet your question says “That’s not enough. Since she saved the child’s life, your friend is responsible to pay for that child’s food and housing for the next 12 years.” That’s ridiculous. LIFE itself eclipses anything else that happens to that child. Will the child need food and housing, clothing and schooling? Will the child go through some difficult times? Of course. Those needs may or may not be met as completely as one might hope for-yet, as long as the child is alive, they have the chance to do something with their life-even if there are challenges in that child’s life as they grow up. Do we say “Well, she should have drowned back when she was in the lake, because now she and her mom are living in a car” ?? Of course not. Circumstances are fixable. Death is not. Please do not bring up “but what if the mother’s life is in danger”, “what if she was raped’, “What if the baby is so sick or deformed that life outside the womb would be torture” at this point, because those cases involve less than 1% of all elective abortions. We do not make laws based on an extreme minority of the population. The overwhelming majority of abortions-that’s 99%, folks-- are done for socio-economic reasons. Those are temporary situations that can be addressed.Every single one of them. Abortion is permanent. Now, since you asked, I will answer your question. Not to brag, but to appease your need to feel that pro-life people actually DO care about the lives of the women and children they save from abortion. I did keep records, so these are my stats. Some of them were in connection with pregnancy counseling/activist organizations (BirthRight and Oregon Right to Life), some through DSHS in the state of Oregon, some through private foster agencies (The Casey Family Foundation and The Boys and Girls Aid Society) and some on my own:Housed foster children? 350; all either high-risk teens or special needs childrenHoused pregnant women? 20 (15 of the 350 fosters, plus 5 private arrangements)Housed new mothers and their babies: 10 moms, 11 babies (1 set of twins)Adopted a child? 0, but it was not for lack of trying. Birth father regained rights to the child we were in the process of adopting.Directly participated in facilitating an adoption: 3Provided material support to pregnant women and new mothers? (Tangible items such as maternity wear, diapers, clothing, bus passes, food, money for utility bills, etc.) 79, including 1 married woman with 2 more toddlers who were sleeping in shopping carts for cribs in their unfurnished apartment. Beds, clothing, a bassinette (and later on, a full-sized crib), layette, diapers, and bedding for the whole family.Provided medical care for a mother without insurance? 25Provided rides to doctor appointments, jobs, the pharmacy, and other necessary transportation, both during pregnancy and after the baby was born: I’ve lost count. HundredsSecured housing for new moms and their babies: 7Literally saved the life of a pregnant mother: 1 teen who would have been beaten to death by her family (as her cousin recently had been killed, confirmed by her supportive big brother and a news article) if they’d found out she was pregnant.Helped deliver an unexpected baby: 2; one born in a laundromat, one born in the hallway of the hospital I’d just taken her to-this is the girl whose life I saved BTW (these two are stories that deserve their own post :).Women talked out of abortion in front of abortion clinics who then carried to term (these are ones I kept in touch with for the duration of the pregnancy and beyond:) 32Women whom I talked out of abortion who later told me they regretted their decision: 0Women whom I unsuccessfully attempted to talk out of abortion who later told me they regretted their decision: 12Participated in an abortion clinic blockade: 8Arrested for participating in said blockades: 1Additionally, I have:As an invited guest speaker, provided educational information (and gave contact information for help, should anyone be facing an unexpected pregnancy) to students about abortion and fetal development to 17 different high schools and universities;Formally debated-and won, according to the rubric given ahead of time to the students and the judging panel-the pros and cons of abortion at a state university, against the owner-operator of a local abortion clinic;Wrote a rebuttal article as a letter to the editor of a local newspaper, refuting all 8 cliches’ the author had given in support of legal abortion. The editor called me into his office and told me he was giving me the full page, as it was “too tightly written” (that was a good thing) for him to edit anything out. Dozens of responses poured in which resulted in several women choosing life for their babies. A physician called me on the phone, asking how many years I’d been studying the subject, and if he could use my article in his office and in the class he taught at OHSU.Many other people here have also given their experiences in reply to your question. My question to you now is, “Is that enough for you? Will it ever be enough to persuade you to be pro-life?” Because none of this should even matter to you at all. The only thing that matters is, abortion applies the death penalty on a child who has not committed any crime at all.
Is MISB Bocconi, Mumbai a good college?
I had written down my experience during the second week at MISB Bocconi. I hope this answers your question.“It’s better to travel than to arrive”, quote apt for someone like me who had a remembering experience before being a part of MISB Bocconi Family. The very first time I visited the campus for my profile evaluation, I was passing through the massive lobby of this imposing edifice ‘Hiranandani Knowledge Park’ that kind of intimidated me. But the moment I entered the premise of our college, the feeling of being safe just allowed me to be myself. Being just so impressed by the elegance of the campus, I had made up my decision to join MISB Bocconi. Infused with that confidence for the interview round, allowed me to stay relevant & finally get through. Being filled with emotions after receiving my offer letter made me even more activated for the commencement of the course. The first day of the course was completely filled with anxiety. Being addressed by management & guest speaker regarding the B-school & the course gave me a reality check of my life for the next 2 years. There were multiple questions on my mind regarding how tedious the course would be? To as lame as would I be able to get up early every single day? I was confirming multiple such queries to myself as the day passed. But all thanks to our seniors for arranging such an amazing fresher’s party which was the actual ‘official’ welcome to MISB Bocconi. Each & every day here is a great learning experience & the learning is not just from the world class faculty from SDA Bocconi School of Management or from the best national faculty, but from my fellow colleagues who come from different backgrounds with great experience. At the end of the day, I feel like I am a person more sorted and answered than yesterday. Finally, MISB Bocconi in my opinion is hardly one of the few globally recognized B-schools in our country that allows student driven communities & Academic as well as Non Academic clubs with great decision making power & flexibility. Just before a few days, we got an approval for the commencement of HR and Entrepreneurship club. Learning not only stops here! There are multiple seminars, guest lectures & conclaves with industry experts which are arranged from time to time to ensure that the theoretical knowledge that we gain from our faculty is built by practical relevance.Quite an experience for someone like me, who is just two week old to this college & is sinking deeper into its culture and its not just it as there is a lot more to come, the most exciting one being the Milan Semester.Ending with a hope that I get an opportunity to express my opinion on my experience at MISB Bocconi as proud alumnus!b
If pro-life people believe abortion is a genocide, why don’t they do anything about it?
First let me correct one misconception. We do not believe abortion itself in general is genocide, because it does not fit the definition:gen·o·cide /ˈjenəˌsīd/noun: the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.Unborn children cannot be classified as being of a particular nation or ethnic group; furthermore, the goal of abortion is not necessarily to eradicate all unborn children. That would cause our species to go extinct. However, genocide of African Americans was a goal of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood. It’s possible for abortion to disproportionately affect people of color even today, however, I don’t believe any one ethnic group is in danger of actually being eliminated from the earth even with higher abortion rates in those populations. We do believe that abortion is the destruction of innocent human life. Sometimes the terms “killing”, “homicide”, or “murder” are used. Now, as for your question, “Why don’t they do anything about it?”Where have you been? Plenty of pro-life people have done many things about it. Activism, picketing and protesting at clinics, offering support and services of every kind to women who would seek an abortion, enacting or supporting changes in laws regarding how, when, and where abortions are performed, donations of time, money, and resources to pro-life pregnancy assistance centers, and much more.A similar (but more all encompassing) question was asked of people who are pro life. It was one of those “If you’re so pro-life, how many babies have you adopted/pregnant women have you helped?” An excerpt from my reply there should be sufficient to answer your question as to how much people pro-life people are “doing about it”. These are the things I have personally done. I kept records. This is sincerely not meant as a “humblebrag”. The question is asked so often and in so many ways that I finally put up an outline that shows yes, pro-life people do care about pregnant women and babies (born and unborn) and that we do plenty of things to contribute to ending abortion.Housed foster children? 350; all either high-risk teens or special needs childrenHoused pregnant women? 20 (15 of the 350 fosters, plus 5 private arrangements)Housed new mothers and their babies: 10 moms, 11 babies (1 set of twins)Adopted a child? 0, but it was not for lack of trying.
