We will be having our own version of Justin Trudeau then!Jokes apart!!Contrary to the popular beliefs that he will be not be a good PM of India, I have a few arguments!India is no more a pro-poor country. The income levels are increasing, education is increasing, exposure is an all-time high and people are looking towards India as the next emerging super power.And it can become so!Provided we have right leadership, ambitions and targets.The best thing that I like about Tharoor is that he never takes caste as an identity[1]. He wasn't aware of his own caste for years to come by. We all want a politician who doesn't think on caste lines but when we have one, why are we stepping back?He is a progressive leader and that can be seen from his work in his constituency Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. The constituency comprises of the most intellectual people of Kerala (needless to say, of India) and their leader is the man, Shashi Tharoor If they can choose him, why don't we trust them already?Have a look at his views upon politics[2], external affairs, [3]defence, tourism[4], and especially his anti- discrimination and equality bill[5]. He is well ahead of time! He can envisage a future that India should ideally have.People quip about his vocabulary. I would like to clear this, as he interacts with very well educated people of the country and the world, he uses very ornamental words. Politicians brush themselves a lot before taking up a new role. He will relax his ultra high norms of eloquence to be able to connect with the masses.He has commendable foreign relations that he developed in his stint with united nations. That can be used for the country's advantage for memberships or funds. India needs a face and Tharoor is that.Perhaps it's the time to realise that agriculture will keep moving at its pace. We can just support them but cannot carry the burden for ages. The priority should be put towards service and manufacturing and he is progressive in that direction.You'd love to know his views on learning and education[6]. Sometimes when I listen to politicians who are illiterate themselves and they utter out a speech written by some highly qualified bureaucrat on “how to educate the masses”, it sounds unrealistic to me. For a learned man like Tharoor, I can always lend an ear!!The Sunanda Pushkar case. We are not a bench of Supreme Court to decide what would have happened. If he is guilty, he will be punished but for now, let's appreciate the fact that he has cooperated with the investigation team as much as possible. Here are my suggestions for the Catholic church:I think the idea of experimenting with new forms of church could be helpful for the Catholic church.Recording confessions asking for forgiveness from Priests. This is in some sense a cultural elephant in the air that will not go away for generations, unless the church and the priests themselves do it, it won’t happen. This isn’t about forcing former priests to do so, but rather to ask and implore them to do it as a service to the body of Christ.I’m not a perfect person, but priests who are guilty of the issues that have been recently discussed in the church need to come forward and confess. This is hugely needed. It’s a cathartic moment. The moment you utter “mea culpa” to the person or group you wronged, it transforms the space and the relationship. It could be a real cultural moment on the order of the Bush Funeral or even bigger.Healing has to begin. At has at the margins, but its proceeding much slower than is potentially possible.I can imagine this might have occurred in small enclaves, but I can’t imagine that its occurred:Across the boardWith media attentionPersonal confession beats institutional confession. Or perhaps to clarify, both individuals and institutional church are at fault, and as such it makes sense for BOTH to confess.This might feel ackward, it might be painful, and you’re probably going to feel vulnerable. This is a pull your pants up moment for the public image of the church, my friend and fellow Christian.I’m sure many Christians have felt the same thing throughout the ages.

Saudi Arabia was also apparently consulted by the UAE on this.Sources also said the invitation was a reflection of India’s standing globally and in the Islamic world, with New Delhi enjoying excellent relations with several Islamic nations including the UAE and Saudi Arabia who are both leading lights in the OIC.The move is bound to stun Pakistan, which for 50 years opposed Indian participation at the OIC.Ironically, OIC till now—much to Pakistan’s delight—has been extremely critical of India on the Kashmir issue and has previously used extremely harsh language against New Delhi.New Delhi too had been regarding the OIC as an “anti-India” organisation. But now the invitation is being seen as a turning point, with India expected to counter Pakistani propaganda at the forum.This could eventually pave the way for observer’s status or even full membership for India.The OIC is a 56 nation-body and terms itself as “the collective voice of the Muslim world”, adding that “it endeavors to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world”.Most of the OIC member-nations have a Muslim majority but not all. Countries like Russia and Thailand which have Muslim minorities are among the observers.This means that India can technically apply for observer status or even full membership.However, any such move is bound to be opposed by Islamabad which could argue that India should not be granted membership as it has a “dispute” with an OIC member-nation (Pakistan).But sources pointed out that Pakistan—which is in a precarious financial position and heavily dependent for a bailout on both Saudi Arabia and the UAE—has considerably less leverage than before.Sources pointed out that even when India’s relations with the OIC as a forum were rock-bottom, New Delhi’s individual ties with most leading OIC member-nations were excellent.These individual ties are now set to bring about a change in the relationship between India and the OIC as a forum.In a statement, the MEA said, “The 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation will be held in Abu Dhabi on 1st and 2nd March, 2019.The Minister for External Affairs Smt. Sushma Swaraj has been invited by HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates as the “Guest of Honour” to address the Inaugural Plenary.”The MEA added, “We see this invitation as the desire of the enlightened leadership of the UAE to go beyond our rapidly growing close bilateral ties and forge a true multifaceted partnership at the multilateral and international level.We see this invitation as a milestone in our comprehensive strategic partnership with the UAE.We also see this invitation as a welcome recognition of the presence of 185 million Muslims in India and of their contribution to its pluralistic ethos, and of India’s contribution to the Islamic world. India is, therefore, happy to accept the invitation to attend the Inaugural Plenary of the OIC meeting and we thank the leadership of the UAE for their invitation.”Way back in September 1969 when the OIC was being formed, India—-then led by Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s Government—-had been invited by the host Morocco to participate as a member due to the efforts of then Indian Ambassador in Morocco Gurbachan Singh. But the invitation was swiftly withdrawn after Pakistani military dictator Gen.Yahya Khan opposed it and threatened to boycott the conference.The Indian delegation—led by then union minister Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed (who later became President of India)—had by then arrived in Rabat but was requested to withdraw from the conferencevent.So Modi government is doing allgood for our Muslim brothers.Thanks for reading
