As we watch the Summer Olympics, I recall having heard that diving legend Greg Louganis was already spotted by top trainers when he was 10 years old. Gymnast Mary Lou Retton was an unstoppable tumbler at the age of five.So if you have become quite skilled at something that you began at a much younger age, you can indicate that, but you don’t want to list every single accomplishment. If I were writing get Greg Louganis’s resume for college, it would say “began competing in springboard diving at the age of 10, and in platform diving at the age of 13. Named junior national champion at 14, and one the silver medal in the 1976 Summer Olympics at the age of 16.”I’m sure Greg Louganis had 100 more intramural, intermural, regional, national, invitational, Junior, awards at the one meter springboard the 3 m springboard the 5 m platform in the 10 m platform. And I wouldn’t list any of that. The goal is to show that an achievement earned at 16, came from a long term disciplined effort, not to show off every single award you ever got.Another good benchmark is the Junior Olympics. If you were not Joan Junior Olympic quality before starting high school, it is probably not worth mentioning the earlier involvement.The only exception I can think of is in the field of entertainment. Many juveniles star in their first movie at the age of four.
