Steve is one of the most brilliant and big hearted people I’ve ever met. Steve and Bill got know each other in college and were a perfect match for many many years at Microsoft. One complemented the other. Steve was one of the few people in a company of brilliant people who was Bill’s equal in terms of mental horsepower. They each had areas of particular strength and focus. Steve would know every detail of every business at Microsoft. He knew my numbers better than I knew them and that was true for every other department. Oh, and Steve beat Bill on the Putnam math competition.They were both very fortunate to meet and befriend each other.Ok, the last few years got rocky between them but for decades they were joined at the hip and alter egos of each other.PS. Thanks for the A2A.Background info- I was accepted into the class of 2022 at Hopkins this past fall as an early decision applicant. I went to a private Catholic school in Iowa. Before becoming paralyzed the summer before sophomore year, I heavily participated in sports. Obviously, after my injury, I was unable to play high school sports, which was the only thing I liked and wanted to do. Sadly, most of the activities I participated in were solely for the title and to make me more competitive as an applicant. My advice to you is to find 2–3 activities/clubs that you truly enjoy, work toward becoming a leader in them, and make an impact. If the club/activity that you want to participate in/lead doesn’t exist, create it.Ultimately, you do not need international awards. Sure, they can help. But if you can dedicate yourself to a few activities and become a leader in them, I think you will have a shot (if you have solid stats, essays, teacher recs, luck, etc.).Best of luck—KH
