EnzymesThis site says: Most enzymes are oligomeric. Enzymes involved in glycolysis all have 2 or 4 subunits. Vertebrate Lactate DeHydrogenase [LDH] is oligomeric. It looks like LDH has 4 subunits, and there are 2 different kinds of subunits - H & M - so the LDH tetramers can be HHHH or HHHM or HHMM or HMMM or MMMM. Those variations are called ‘isozymes.’ [When I was a biochem grad student, I heard that someone had gotten a Nobel Prize for discovering isozymes, and that the prof of my lab class had seen them but didn’t think they were important!] LDH is in heart and muscle.
