White Oak has a couple of apartment complex within walking distance from FDA, although I’m not sure about entrances to the FDA campus so you may end up walking a long way around to actually enter the campus. The fish section is outstanding, as well. The meat department is good, but don’t be afraid to ask for the cut of meat that you want. They may not have it on display, but will cut to order. Trader Joe’s on Colesville Road is also a good shopping option.For restaurants, the whole region is full of awesome Mom and Pop ethnic restaurants, serving food just like Grandma made. Most are inexpensive, too. Entertainment? The area is full of free stuff to do. DC has museums, concerts, and festivals for free. Montgomery County is a part of the National Capitol Parks and Planning Commission (MNCPPC), which is a GREAT network of parks ranging from sports fields to historical and nature sites. Wheaton Regional Park, not far from White Oak, is wonderful. There’s Brookside Gardens and Nature Center, tennis, ice skating, walking trails, a train for the kids, and riding stables.The secret about this area is that if you can figure out housing, you can live very well on a modest amount of money.
