The temple was built by a local businessman Dharna Shah during the 15th century when the ruler of Mewar Region was Rana Kumbha.Since Dharna Shah got the grant from the ruler so in return he promised to name the temple and village after the Rana. Since then it is known as Ranakpur Temple which is in Ranakpur village.The temple is dedicated to Lord Aadinath (Rishabhanatha), first Tirthankara (ford-maker) of Jainism.
