PDF Editor FAQ

How can one build a home for under $10,000 in the USA? One bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, with electricity and connection to sewer and water.

There are some interesting possibilities to this question. At first glance, most people would say “No, that isn’t possible. No way, no how.”The MOTH (man of the house) wants to renovate our house, which has three separate living quarters on it, including a casita. The application alone to the city for the casita costs $450. This is why so many people drop into an abyss of disappearing assets. Bureaucratic fees that don’t necessarily even get them what they need. Application costs aren’t refundable, and the city reserves the right to say ‘No’. Nice.If you’re flexible, you may find an answer to this, though. A friend of ours wanted a second home in Oregon. He bought an RV and a piece of land in Oregon. He put down a cement foundation and has sewer and electric hooked up, I believe. I’m not sure how much all this cost him, but it was over $10,000, including the cost of the RV.RVs can be a good way to go if you want a small place. People buy them new and then never, or rarely, use them. If you research some of the problems that can occur with an RV that sits for too long and you’re willing to work with the problems, you can find one for less than 10k. I’ve seen newer ones with very low mileage on Craigslist.Search some government websites for properties—raw land and with houses— that are in arrears on taxes or mortgage payments. With due diligence, you might find a piece of land or a house for less than 10k. You can either renovate the house, or you might put your RV there. Those cute trailers that look like tiny homes qualify as RVs, too.You can also make your home in an RV park. You wouldn’t have to worry about permits or building, just paying rent in the park. That’s not ideal if you really want a home on land, but it works for many people. RV and mobile home parks can be iffy, but some are very nice and are equipped with amenities. The nicer ones are generally for seniors 50 to 55 and older. To find a piece of land where the local government might overlook codes would put you off the grid. It’s not impossible to live this way and comfortably, but that depends on the individual. There are generators, solar panels, and well water with which to work.I did a quick search on foreclosures and found many properties for 10k spread around the US. You will most likely find one you like, with land, in the south or Midwest or deep in rural areas. At least you know they’re hooked up to sewer, water, and electricity. HUD, Housing and Urban Development, is helpful in finding properties that the government owns and wants sold and renovated. If you find a house or piece of land that’s in arrears on mortgage and/or taxes, you can pay them and be in line as a lien holder if the property reverts to the bank. That’s a gamble, but it can pay off.Hooking up to city utilities, plus a foundation and permits, can run you close to 10k depending on the area you want to build. For every foot you’re located from city lines and sewer, the greater the cost for hooking up to utilities. There are many stories of people building a wonderful home out of a cardboard box, Styrofoam, bottle caps, and an old refrigerator. My suspicion is that this will cost more than the traditional way of building. I could be wrong, although I did find a 52 foot storage container made into a home for just over 87k on eBay. But they deliver! Minus a few hundred for delivery, then.I searched eBay again, and found a 42ft container home for $21,900.00 and only $3.32 shipping. $3.32? Just absorb the shipping, for crying out loud: 40' Ft Shipping Container Dream Homes 320 SQFT Series 9.5' Ft Ceilings Brand NEW.I saw a few here for under 5k: Shipping Containers For Sale.In looking further, I found this super site: renufoundation. It looks to be doing great things for people who have hit bottom. The USDA is an excellent option for rural properties and middle to low income families. Rural includes land within 50 miles of most cities. For materials, don’t overlook places like Habitat for Humanity where you can find materials at a low cost: Donate goods to Habitat for Humanity ReStore.I found this site: Ultra-Cheap: Houses for Under $6,000. The problem is I can’t find the date it was written and the info might be outdated.A real estate company’s site is always up to date: Homes For Sale priced $0 to $10,000 - Coldwell Banker Hunter Realty. The HUD website: https://www.hudforeclosed.co.Land for sale: Owner Financed Land for Sale - Rural Property in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.Image source: Charming Storage Container Homes 17 Best Ideas About Shipping Container Homes Cost On Pinterest | Ebizby Design

Are there real state investors that buy land and rent/lease it to people with "tiny homes" or mobile homes?

Many municipalities don't allow tiny houses on residential lots unless there is a main house with a driveway or backyard. Some Helpers and Healers that take care of the old people in the main house get permission because of their special status,Other municipalities will ban tiny houses for fear that it will depress neighbourhood values…some will have rules that the minimum house size is 750 sqft or something like that.Your best Bet is to find an RV Park because many are accepting Trailers or Tiny Houses that are RV compliant (hookups) now as the High Gas Prices has slowed down the RV Business. Also, septic is the area where you have to be careful. Either have a compost toilet or do as they do in New Mexico and dig a Pool, cover it with a Rubber Membrane, then gravel, sand and earth and feed the shrubs with the Effluent and Grey Water. This way, there is no danger that you contaminate the water table with septic waste. If you do it, be rigorous and take lots of pictures to document your septic setup. Many states or municipalities now ban citizens from even harnessing the rainwater (but hey outfits like Nestle or Coca Cola have access to unlimited water for free…lol) or even growing tomatoes on your front lawn is illegal and subject to a fine. Ownership now gives you the right to pay your property taxes and that’s about all. Building Permits can be refused for all kinds of reasons..in historic districts, I can understand the rules, elsewhere, it is purely an impediment to homeownership and our basic rights as a landowner.Maybe, unite with 12 other people, buy land and form a land trust. Use all the special privileges that can be used by a non-profit land trust.Municipalities, all but a few select districts where educated folk live, they prefer lawns chuck full of cancer-causing pesticides…. they will allow this and it clearly shows that they went too far to accommodate the pesticide manufacturers like Monsanto …lol. The Pendulum must now swing back in the other direction and the Citizen, through concerted and affirmative actions must take his Power back.Time for a new Mindset based on Wellness and Holistic PracticesAlso, the tiny house activists are working on changing the National Building Code and to include an Appendix for Tiny houses, currently published for Discussion....afterwards, municipalities can choose if these rules are applicable in their town..some will have special subdivisions..ie a 1 acre lot with 12 tiny houses in one zone ..with rules that apply in their subdivision. It comes down to wondering whether Building one’s shelter, without undue restrictions, without impediments lobbied and set in place by towns, unions and Material cartels and large retailers, is not a basic human right….the Basic Right of any Human to build his Shelter. , to live in Dignity ..we have lost our way and we have sacrificed Human Dignity on the altar of Corporatism, Special Interests and Mercantilism…we have homeless people living in tents or on cardboard boxes and we call this arrangement ‘’smart ‘’cities…lolPS. Think Deep..then Do it...It is often easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask permission..in a situation like this. High Housing Costs leave us no choice. The alternative is to become a ‘’ debt slave‘’, then a ‘’wage slave ‘just ’to pay for excessive housing costs…It is no longer Capitalism but a form of Feudalism, based on Debt.Be the Change You Wish to See.Love Life Loud and Clear.

What are the best cars for living out of?

The answer depends on a lot of factors. Are you going to be in an urban or a rural environment? Are you okay with moving around a lot, or do you want to stay put? Are you alone, or do you have a partner and/or kids? Are you employed such that you need to be well-groomed and wearing clean, pressed clothes? Are you permitted to live in your car, or are you going to have to be a stealth camper?Living alone, I like a small car with good ground clearance so I can drive on rough roads in the National Forest and park in small parking spaces in the Big City. In the country you can always supplement your space with a tent if you want. I never felt the need, though sometimes in hot weather I would put a tarp over the open doors to make a shaded porch. (A four -door car is best.)If I had a white collar job I would need hanging space for slacks and suits, and 15-Amp 110-volt power to run a clothes iron and an electric shaver. I suppose you could rig that up in a van even if it did not have standup room. Those new giant commercial vans from Mercedes and Ford look really nice, but I’m sure they have a pricetag to match. If car-dwelling is tolerated in your community, you might consider an old RV you can find for a few thousand dollars (or less), but since they’re mostly not very well built there may be rain rot and roof leaks. Also bad electrics and leaky plumbing. And the engines are mostly really hard to work on, and tires are real expensive. As Mr. Mitchell points out in comments, in many ways a 5th wheel trailer will be a better bet than an RV if you have an appropriate tow vehicle. On the other hand, the trailers are very conspicuous — especially when you leave them parked on the city street and you drove your tow vehicle somewhere else. The cops will be watching. It’s their job, after all.So it all depends on your own personal application.
