PDF Editor FAQ
Who first translated Einstein's theory of relativity into English?
Who first translated Einstein’s work into English? The honour for that goes to two very distinguished Indian scientists , Meghnad Saha and Satyendra Nath Bose. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis provided a historical background. The English translation was published by the University of Calcutta in 1920. If this seems like a long time after the original presentation of the papers in German in 1905, it should be remembered that at the time German was the language of science. The story of the papers is told at https://arxiv.org/pdf/physics/0701240v1.pdfEinstein later returned the favour, translating a paper by Satyendra Nath Bose into German and getting it published in the prestigious journal Zeitschrift für Physik. Bose’s name is remembered in Bose–Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose–Einstein condensate, as well as the class of particles known as Bosons. Meghnad Saha worked on the thermal ionisation of elements, formulating the Saha equation. This equation is one of the basic tools for interpretation of the spectra of stars in astrophysics, and astrophysicists often use the phrase "to Saha correctly," making Saha one of the few scientists whose name is a verb. Both Bose and Saha played important roles in developing science in newly independent India.

What is something everyone should know?
This is an answer that got collapsed before, so I am writing it again.Warning : Bitter truth that may ruin your fantasies forever.Remember those days in your childhood? When your parents and teachers used to start the day saying :“Hey, you can do everything!”“Hey if Napoleon can cross the Alps in spring with an army; why can’t you?”“Hey; you can make a difference in the world.”Now, after growing up, when you come to the Quora; Quora feeds are full of such Motivational speeches; inspiring stories; success quotes; and a demand for change. Change in everything around you. Change in lifestyle, change in ideas, luxuries, social destinations-designations-definitions; in everything. You come to Facebook—Brace yourself! Even the cringiest person has posted countless emotional and motivational pictures, videos, status..what not!You open Whatsapp— Those very whatsapp stories!“No pain no gain” with a picture of some Treadmill. *The dude has just joined the gym*. The dude is really ‘motivated’ now.Instagram—Even wannabe-model girls are filling the whole photo-world with motivation. Inspiration; dream, hope— Positiveness overflowing in each and every corner of the Social Media.Yet; ever wondered? Why your life is NOT so positive yet?Ever wondered why you wake up so depressed everyday? Despite living the most positive platform in the world: Social media. You wake up with an irritating feeling in mind; even after reading all those inspiring stories and quotes throughout the all day.You go to sleep every night; and dream about your dream-future; yet you end up being the same loser, on the next day.Your world is filled with positiveness since birth; yet you are dead inside now. Losing the every battle with yourself; with your world, everyday.Ever wondered: WHY?Let me tell you a secret.Because: ‘Positiveness’ is a marketing policy created by the very manufacturers; businessmen, and elitists all over the world, for this very ‘consumer’ society. They always inspire you; they want you to gain something, to achieve something; to consume something. All the time. And any kind of consumption starts, with consuming the very inspiration first. All those motivational movies that you watch, are tailor made; where you see people are climbing success like a monkey in the tree. Starting from the very ground, and then hopping up, to the top of the tree. The ‘hopping’ is projected as something really tough there; and that’s why the movie is so inspirational; so motivational—because the monkey was : ‘hopping’.While, it is very natural to ‘hop’ for monkeys actually, and a ‘human being’ will never be able to ‘hop’ like a monkey. That’s the reality. But the movie won’t tell you that ever, because, if they do so; Production houses will be closed for ever. No business at all.You see, ‘negativity’ is bad for business. Without positiveness; you can’t consume anything that is NOT so necessary for you. If everybody says “I don’t have the motivation to buy a luxury car”; The BMW company will go bankrupt. If girls say “We don’t have the motivation to look extra-beautiful; by putting some extra make-up; Cosmetic companies will go bankrupt. If Parents say; “We will be happy if our son lands just a ‘small’ job, just to fill our stomach and healthcare only… we don’t need anything more.” —What will happen to those private coaching institutes who are running Billion Dollars businesses to give you a ‘dream-career’ ?!So; it’s their holy duty to keep you motivated. To keep you engaged in your so-called ‘dreams’. Dreams that contain some facade of morality, whilst hiding the secret competition we all do with each other; for earning as much material, as much fun toys, as much luxury goods, as much beautiful girls or hunky guys, as possible!Let’s get back to our initial teen-age days for some moments. (I am a 90′s kid grown up in a small town, now in a big city.) When; we never bothered about those Entrance exams; never bothered about whether I am going to get a trophy wife or a cool girlfriend; never bothered about whether I am going to have the best car in the block; or the biggest house in the community. These ideas were purposefully injected into me later, by my surrounding environments, and by the media we all follow. We never even BOTHERED about most of the things. Not because we were kids; but because, bothering about those things beyond our control never served any real purpose. But now, we are stuck in such a world; which is continuously being fed by the advertisements; while believing in what’s right and what’s wrong, as selected by the mainstream media. What does the ad-world show to us?“WHY SHOULD I ALWAYS BE MOTIVATED.”“Because; I need to reach my ‘dreams’. To reach my dreams, I need to buy their products. Unless I reach my ‘dreams’; I will be unhappy. And since; small dreams exclusively make one unhappy; we must need to follow —‘big dreams’; ‘bigger dreams’. Dreams : Bigger than your neighbors, your classmates, your siblings..bigger than everyone possible.”“Unless we dream big; and chase it, we shall remain unhappy forever”—that’s the thing constantly being fed to us; by the Ad-world.And what the media show to us?Media don’t show you all those good things, niceties, benevolence, forgiveness; beautiful things— happening all around the world. It shows only the rape, murder, crimes, felony, brutality, war, violence…political debates we have no control over; fear of financial crisis you can’t control ever, fear of everything—you can never control. It wants to instill ‘fear’, within you; in every aspect of life. Fear of losing something. FOREVER.Media do want you to stay unhappy. That’s why they always ‘motivate’ you; to ‘bring a change’, to ‘unsettle the established order’, even after knowing; no established order can ever be perfect. Now, don’t get me wrong. I have no complain about the thing ‘change’ itself; or about the ‘consumption’ of things. What bothers me is , this concept—cultured by the current Ad-world and media; and accepted by the consumerist society largely—“You don’t win silver, you lose gold only.”What remains omitted here is — “So stay unhappy, and run and hunt for the GOLD.” While, the very truth is—what we each and everyone forgets— Both gold and silver are just mere ‘metals’; if it has ‘any’ value, that value is in our MIND. When we don’t value it; we don’t need it. and that’s where all the world wins over you. In convincing you to ‘value’ the gold. They motivate you; to value this. And instead of appreciating the silver; you run like crazy in the hunt for Gold forever. With all the EQUIPMENTS provided by : those very manufacturers.They. Win. There.Hence; stop falling in the trap of ‘motivation’; it is fabricated for the wrong purpose, wrong reasons.REAL MOTIVATION COMES FROM WITHIN, IN SEARCH OF A REAL PURPOSE OF YOUR LIFE.You will get what you are ‘really’ motivated for. Do you know what it actually takes to really win anything?Blood. Sweat. Toil. Tears. The media won’t tell you this, but you do have to go through all these. And know what? Those artificial motivations circulating all around the world, won’t give you the POWER to ENDURE, all these stuffs. That has to come from WITHIN. Once it really comes, you are literally unstoppable then. But only then. Not before. So, forget big dreams. Start small. Enjoy small moments. Small successes. Find your purpose. Find what you ‘REALLY’ want, and want for you only. You will automatically make it BIG, then.Just, don’t compete in the field of consumption, with your neighbor. You . Are. Unique. So stay unique in your choices. In your decisions. In your priorities.Don’t get swayed by the media and advertisements. My best wishes for you(An entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.)Image : Google(If you have appreciated the answer—to prevent it from being collapsed again—share or response to it.)Another answer with similar thoughts : Tamal Saha's answer to How can we use laws to prevent rape?
