Yes and no. All things being equal between two individuals, ANY medal will tip the balance when it comes to promotions.But you still need to qualify for that promotion. For enlisted soldiers you still need the professional development courses and meet time in grade/service assignments to make SGT.For NCOs and officers you still need to continue your professional development, have the proper assignments and earn good evaluations. Granted, you’ll be given a great deal of credit for your award, but if you’re not meeting the standard in some fashion, you won’t get a free ride. You still have to perform.After WWII Audie Murphy felt he couldn’t. Even though he was a 1LT, he felt too out of place without the education level of his peers and though he liked the Army, felt that he wouldn’t be able to continue as a career officer.I met one other MOH awardee who was a Battalion Commander when I was a young lieutenant. But you would have never known it. Even in his greens, he wouldn’t wear it (although his entire command knew about it). Only on a New Year’s Day reception at the CG’s residence did I ever see him wear the medal, and I’m convinced that happened only due to a direct order by the CG.

Hmmm. That’s not good. I don’t think it will affect your exit opportunities per se, as the outside world has no idea what kind of feedback you’ve been getting or how you did. But the much bigger problem is that the deal, the offer of these places is partly predicated on the growth opportunities that come with working there. And if you’re not getting good feedback then you’re missing out on a lot of that equation.Why aren’t you getting this? Have you asked for it? Feedback is something you shouldn’t just wait to receive, but rather something that you should be actively seeking. It’s your career and you should take ownership (real ownership) of it. And that includes making sure you’re getting the insights you need to improve.Do you have a professional development manager (what they were called at McKinsey) or some sort of other designated mentor or evaluator? I’d go see them and have a frank and open discussion about what you feel is missing and push them for some guidance.
