PDF Editor FAQ
What is the best revenge against a narcissistic ex? Let's cut past the BS for a second. Recovering from a narcissist is very difficult and painful. I feel anger at this point.
Tell the truth about her in social media. Here is a long story on how a man who was unjustly maligned by his narcissistic ex in social media fought back and got his revenge by exposing the truth. You can find the original here: Bitter, narcissistic Ex fraudulently tarnished my reputation, and turned people against me behind my back. Years later, I give her a taste of her own medicine. This all took place five years ago in the beginning.I've lived my whole life in Russia except for the four and a half years I lived in the Eastern part of the United States, where I went to college for a degree in engineering after completing my one year of national service. There are lots of good schools here but I originally had the intention of moving to America permanently. I have relatives who live in North America so I was invited to stay with them during this time. It turned out I didn't really stay with any of them.Because I am tall and good at sport I also did high jump and basketball while in school. I was never that good, but adequate enough to make the team to such a degree that I was retroactively given a small athletic subsidy while already enrolled. It made my tuition slightly cheaper, which for an international student was a concern, even if my parents were high status regarding money. While enrolled in college I met my soon to be girlfriend Natalia, a girl originally from Connecticut and from a very wealthy family. Her major was fine arts and we met in an English class and began dating. Natalia was a little more than two years ahead of me in her studies age-wise but we became a serious enough couple to where I took an apartment outside of campus, and she moved in with me. Her parents' house wasn't far from campus but she chose to stay in my apartment, mostly because I don't think she wanted to bring me to her house too often. Maybe her parents didn't approve of me, or maybe she did not approve of me enough to show me to her parents very much.We had a good relationship or at least I thought it was good. She never complained and always liked to show off that we are a couple. She was the first person I knew in my circles who owned a selfie-stick and she would take it with us and everything was a photo opportunity. I didn't have any social media at the time but I made one just so that she could "tag" me in her posts. Eventually all her social media friends added me as a friend also. And since many people from my own home country had social media too they saw me and added me as well.Among Natalia's friend group people called me Drago which is dumb because I don't think I look like Ivan Drago. Natalia makes no secret to me of the fact that she is from a wealthy family and she tells me that she has a trust fund that will pay for her lifestyle her whole life and she doesn't even really need to attend college.I'm from a privileged background too but I don't have a trust fund myself. My father owns a small hotel outright, and where we come from that means you're rich like Steve Jobs in a relative sense. So sometimes in the mail, Natalia would get these bank statements that just tell her how much money she has in her trust fund, how much interest it made, and what her dividend, or in other words her allowance, for the month is. It is for this reason that Natalia is in no particular hurry to finish school, which is why at the time she was already twenty-three but only barely a sophomore. Natalia would show these statements to me and leave them lying around the house. They didn't have her whole bank account number listed on them anyway. They just showed balances and the name of her bank. My parents and my athletics paid for a good amount of my expenses but I still worked on campus at the bookstore to earn more money. Natalia didn't work.I didn't really have many issues with Natalia. She seemed friendly enough, was pretty, and good company. We had lots of things to talk about and we had fun together, or at least I had fun and thought she had fun too. I didn't know if I ever wanted to marry her, but I didn't rule out the idea. One thing I didn't like about her was that she was very dramatic and very prone to panic. For example if we were at a department store where she wants to buy a particular thing, and her favorite personal shopper isn't available she'll act like it's the end of the world. She wasn't above making scenes. She'd also be a bit short and rude with restaurant staff. One thing that I thought was a bit disingenuous of her was that although she was a millionaire, she liked to pretend to be poor. Not that there's anything wrong with not flashing your wealth, because there isn't. What I mean is that she'd try to act like she came up rough and that she was making life happen on her own, if I make sense. She tried to act like she was down for the cause as some say. It's kind of like when rich suburban kids try too hard to copy how things happen in a hip hop video. Except Natalia wasn't trying to be White female Tupac, she tried to do this Bohemian artist thing and pretend to some people that she was living on a shoestring.Around me, she was more herself. Or really I don't know which self is her real self. All I know is that she isn't poor but she pretends to be, in certain company.Well moving on.Eventually Natalia tells me, OP what do you think of having an open relationship? I didn't really know anything about open relationships but when Natalia explained what they were, I told her I wasn't interested in anything like that. I asked her if she wanted to be in one and is that why she's asking, but she said no, that she just read something about open relationships. From my now-perspective I know she probably had someone or some people in mind who she wanted to date or have sex with, or she already had been doing these things with one or more people but just hasn't told me about it yet.Natalia had had her inner reproductive organs surgically cut so that she could not have children. I bring this up, because SHE brought it up to me, when she was practically begging me to have unprotected sex with her, and I was worried about maybe getting her pregnant when she didn't want to be. She showed me the actual paperwork for the procedure by emailing me a PDF document that she received from her own doctor.I only thought about it after the whole open relationship discussion because up until then we had been having sex without a condom and I assumed I was her only partner and I knew for a fact I was clean, but now I was worried whether or not SHE was actually clean. But for a couple weeks more things appeared going as normal. She assured me over and over again that she had no other partners, and so like a fool I continued to have unprotected sex with her.Suddenly though within the month, Natalia tells me she needs to move out, that our relationship isn't working out.Okay, I think, I'm sad to see you go, but can we be friends? And her attitude is yeah of course we can be friends! Even then I knew she probably met someone new or had always been with that person and was now just ready to move on from me. My attitude is well most girls come and go, that's life. I'm sure many women have the same approach to guys. She left a lot of her stuff behind like clothes and papers including her bank statements that had her trust fund info on them. I tell her since we're friends why don't you come by and get your stuff? Or I'll bring it all to you. She said oh that's fine I'll get them someday could you please hold them for me? And it's not as though she had that many things at my apartment. I think she especially didn't want to have me bring it to her house or new place where she stayed because she had a new boyfriend. None of my business.I never linked my social media to my phone or went to computers to check it because I just didn't care about that sort of thing and I still don't. But I found out later that Natalia had deleted and blocked me on social media almost immediately after she moved out, and combed through her friends and deleted anyone who appeared to be one of my friends from back home.I was almost done with my degree and over the next year completely lost touch with Natalia, though I never argued with her or had an official falling out. I assumed we just moved on with our lives. I had been accepted at another school one state away from my undergraduate college to complete a masters degree, and didn't want to waste time, so I hired a service to box up some of the less important things at my house and forward them to my new apartment. By this time I had bought a used car and so with one suitcase I could set myself up for a few days while I waited for the bulk of my furniture and other luggage. I sent a text to Natalia and emailed her too, telling her where I was moving. Of course I rerouted all her mail to go to her parents' house not long after she moved out, because for a long time she used my place as her address. She wasn't thinking big picture enough to do it herself, otherwise I could have kept getting her mail for a while. In my new hometown I jumped headfirst right into studying, and hardly even went home except to eat and sleep. I never even opened a few of my boxes that contained things I wouldn't need, like old textbooks or very heavy winter clothing. Those stayed in their moving boxes. So after another year, I have my masters, and move back to Russia. I'm happy because I had managed to get a job right away in my chosen profession. I sell my car and most of my random furniture on the internet. I had written down what was in each moving box, on the outside of the box. Those boxes that contained nothing I needed right away were kept sealed the entire time I was in my second American apartment. When I arrived in my current home, I finally opened all of my boxes and realized that I still had some of Natalia's old clothes from when we were a couple, two and a half, three years ago. I even still had her old trust fund statements. I had over a years' worth of them, which is about the length of time Natalia lived with me.Since it had been such a long time and we hadn't talked in years, I assumed she no longer wanted the things, but I still didn't want to give them away or throw them away without seeing what she had to say.So for the first time in years I check my social media, and am surprised to see that she blocked me from sending her messages. I try to text her but her number has changed or maybe she blocked me there, too. Anyway she doesn't reply. Same thing happens when I email her. Why will she block me? I wonder. I think it must be an internet problem. I log out and just try looking at her social media as a random web user, and have no problem at all.I see that she hasn't really changed. Still pretty, still dressing all quirky and Bohemian. I feel kind of weird but I take a little break from what I'm doing and just see what she's been up to for the last couple of years. She's with some new guy now who looks a little bit like me but with longer hair and less responsible haha. Well good for her.I can see that she really puts her whole life out there on social media. Every little thing is worth an update from her. She is as dramatic as ever. I do notice she's a lot more political than she was before. Well that's good. It's always nice to believe in something passionately. I am not at all surprised to see that as usual she portrays herself as a struggling artist who's making a way for herself in the big bad city. Whatever works for you, Natalia, work it! She talks trash about high fashion brands, how she never had anything growing up, how she ate stew from grass as a child because she was so poor. She is really laying it on thick, and also she ripped off that story from ME, because I was telling her about how my relatives were forced to eat grass stew during the patriotic war because there wasn't much other food. All of this is just her being a poseur, which doesn't affect me, but what does affect me is when I see a post that mentioned me by name. "Nat, this is SO like your abusive ex OP, OMG!"Her friend was referring to a picture of how verbal abuse is just as damaging as physical abuse. Natalia had replied,"yeah, OP really tried to destroy my self esteem. He was also not shy about threatening me."Lots of guys who were her friends on social media commented that they'd kill me or kick my ass if they ever saw me. For most of them I would laugh because I would smash them like so many ants, especially how most of them are like wearing women's blue jeans I mean really are you sure about that, stick legs sir?... but right now I am furious because Natalia lied about me. Some of them were even seriously talking about naming me to school administrators about having my degree canceled or having me put on some kind of offender list.None of them bothered to keep in contact with me so they didn't know I moved back to Russia, but they were also talking about reporting me to the police and having me arrested. In other posts Natalia also mention me by name and actually accuse me of assaulting her in various ways, that I cheated through school, that my parents are in the Russian mob (LOL oh-kaaaaay).In every post Natalia tried to come off like she was taking the high road by not reporting me to authorities and that it was her "cross to bear" as a survivor. Her friends were like lemmings giving her electronic back pats about how courageous she was. Barf.By a little digging I saw that she broke up with the guy who I figured out was the man she moved onto after me, and he was getting slammed, too, and I'll assume he was also blocked on social media. From piecing together what Natalia says to her friends on social media, it's clear she's built up an image of being a struggling artist, and her current boyfriend also appears to believe she's a struggling artist, and they share an apartment together. I piece it together that the boyfriend works a 9 to 5 but he looks like a hipster type so maybe he is an artist too. He looks like he's struggling to keep it all together. They are totally into the activist scene. They're always talking about online funding for all kinds of charitable work. Noble stuff. Not being sarcastic.Natalia smears me across platforms. The book of many faces, the grams that are instant, the stupid blue bird app where people unknowingly brag about how worthless their existences are.Right away I think of the bank statements I have that show Natalia is anything but struggling. Because according to the statements I have, unless Natalia developed a $10,000 a day coke habit over the past two years and bought a Bentley and crashed it into Taylor Swift and lost a court case, she's getting just over six figures a year just sitting on her ass and will continue to earn these funds in perpetuity. But then I think, I've moved on and am happy, I don't even know Natalia anymore, I don't REALLY care what these social media losers think of me...Until I see yet another post where Natalia makes this dramatic statement about how she is unable to have babies as a result of a traumatic assault. To her credit, she didn't blame ME for this imaginary attack, but she was still trying to score social points by pretending to be a victim.I was even more convinced when she and her friends actually altered some of the pics of me online that Natalia had once taken with her selfie stick, and X'ed out my face using Photoshop paint. The photos were captioned with all kinds of untrue slurs. Really harsh, criminal accusations. Funny, how all of them are so eager to accuse me of being a criminal and are talking about how they will kick my ass if they see me, but none of them think of telling the police about any supposed crimes I committed.Seems really lazy. She also blamed PTSD for the fact that she was near thirty and still not graduated from college.I thought about somehow faking an account and getting her to add me as a friend, but then while looking through her friend list (and she had like a thousand friends), I saw that one of my friends was still on there. My friend doesn't speak any English and he doesn't spend much time on social media either, so he had no idea what any of these people were even saying.I noticed even long ago that it was weird that Natalia didn't include her own parents on her "friends" list, but she explained that away by saying they were too old and didn't do technology. Maybe, Natalia, but chill, your parents are like 52. I suspect now (even then, I suspected it) it's because she wanted to build up a different persona online, and her rich parents would ruin that image.Through lots of digging, I figure out where Natalia works. It's a non profit.I finally decide to return Natalia's things.I put her old clothes, many of them really expensive designer shoes and purses) into a box with her bank statements, and address them to her non-profit. I don't actually write Natalia's name on the outside.I write her name on the inside, explaining in a note that these items are all things that she bought while she lived with me when I was still in the USA.I figure they could raise many thousands of dollars if they sell these things on Eb∆y. I mean if Natalia, the owner, was willing to part with them of course. It would be great for their non profit. Could you ask her about it?A couple of days later...As for Natalia's actual bank statements, before mailing them in the box I collected some of her greatest hits online where she posted pictures of herself at rallies bemoaning the 1%, complaining about her hard knock life, about how much she cared for others' suffering. And I combined these photos on a photo editor with scans of her bank statements, with red highlighter around her monthly allowance, how much she had in total, and how the funds would last forever. I also made sure to highlight the name of the originator of the trust, a quite well known name in American industry who is identified as her great grandfather. For each of the twelve statements, I add one of Natalia's hypocritical posts about being poor, struggling, living check to check, how she depends on her art to survive. My favorite salvo is where I screen cap her post about how she is unable to have children due to an attack. I merge this with my PDF she sent me where she paid over $10,000 to have her tubes wrecked. I made sure to highlight her parents' state and zip code on the invoice, though I crossed off their exact address.I made my point though, that the procedure, which took place a few years ago, was when she still lived with her parents in one of the most titanically expensive locations on planet Earth. My Russian friend and I spent the next fun hours spamming the walls of all Natalia's friends with these pictures that show she is rich and a liar. All of them he had access to, anyway, and it was well over three hundred. We make sure to fire similar, battleship broadsides to her over-filtered and photoshopped account where she's always thinking she has to lie to kick it, and also send her and all her friends lots of bird calls on that other app.The fallout was hilarious. The denials sad and pathetic, but mostly hilarious too.Credibility?Oh that credibility!Oh, Natalia, it's destroyed. Why is your boyfriend so mad at you?Did all the organizations you've "liked" on social media "like" it when they saw you were sitting on a fortune and yet claiming "I don't have any money, starving artist LOL! But can I offer my time or homemade brownies teehee?"Day one: Friend count: 1,234, Subscribers, 2,740, Followers, 1,080A week later: Friend count: 620, Subscribers, 895, Followers, 466Natalia are you sure you're not James Charles? My friend doesn't speak English, but he and I are waiting to see if he'll be the last one eventually. And anyway, social castration and death needs no translation.Months after that...I was curious to see later if she was online anymore. POOF! Her profiles were gone or at least the ones she had been using for years. I hope her boyfriend enjoyed his sudden comeuppance! It was probably an amazing day at the office for him to come home and learn that his Bohemian hipster girlfriend was sitting on millions of dollars. To this day I have no real idea why Natalia would do this to me to begin with. I was always nice to her and never even raised my voice to her. I can't remember even one occasion where we actually argued. It's a mystery. What isn't a mystery, is, the fact that the non profit actually called me long distance to thank me for the box, and they made sure Natalia got it. I didn't try to make any secret that these items came from me, so if Natalia wants to sue me for finishing a war she started, she can go right ahead. She will drown in her bunker beneath her lies and I will be break-dancing and cripwalking, planting my flag on her Reichstag.Anyway they said Natalia tried to deny the things were hers at first, but later when she saw the bank statements she tried to say I bought those things and was trying to smear her.Yeah ok. I bought a bunch of €9,000 purses and mailed them to strangers on the off chance it might embarrass you.Eventually she took the papers making some dumbass claim that they were forgeries but left the big ticket items pretending they weren't hers. For what it's worth, the people at the nonprofit knew the statements were legit and told me so. The girl who called me from the nonprofit was asking me if she and the other girls could have the items. I reminded her that the items were Natalia's but if she abandoned them then I say go to town.I asked if Natalia still worked there and if I could talk to her.Oh no, sorry they tell me, Natalia moved back home with her parents.Must be nice, having such a luxurious, eight bedroom fallback trench.Live by the sword Natalia?Enjoy getting IMPALED on it.I hope you enjoyed finally getting your stuff back. From Russia,With Love.
How hard is it to transition from an iPhone to an Android and back?
As a Mac and iOS user I tend to avoid Android. I tried using it but at the end I hated it.Games load pretty slow on Android. Asphalt 8, Temple Run 2, GTA: San Andreas etc take a way more time to load on Android compared to iOS.The synchronisation of Mac and iOS is just marvellous. I found no such synchronisation option between Mac and Android. My favourite free comic book reader app YACReader which keeps my comics synchronised between Mac and iPhone is not available for Android. Many of my favourite games like Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Monkey Island 2: Revenge of LeChuck Special Edition, Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space, Tales of Monkey Island series, Infinity Blade series aren’t available for Android.Snapchat on Android has terrible optimisation issues, its slow, clunky and the camera quality in Android version of Snapchat is terrible. The speed of exporting videos in the Android version of LapseIt and Adobe Premiere Clip is slower than iOS because Android phones use slower storage module than iPhones. There’s no equivalent app to GarageBand on Android, the app called Stagelight is slow, ad-infested and bug ridden and doesn’t contain as much features as GarageBand. If you install Vizzywig 2017 camera app on iPhone SE or any iOS devices with A9 processor or above then you can record 5K videos at 30 FPS something Android device don’t let me do.Many Android apps are terribly optimised and despite of having powerful sounding specs they still lag and stutter and sometimes even crash.Battery life and optimisations on Android sucks a big time but of course thee are devices which overcome this issue by packing big batteries.Google PlayStore is full of many bogus apps and even adware.Google Chrome browser for Android is an absolute piece of shit, you can’t use an ad-blocker with it, it isn’t as fast as Safari, it hogs up memory and hardware resources. I hate Chrome on my Mac and I hate the mobile version of Chrome even more. Most Android phones are packed to brim with bloatware from their manufacturers as well as Google. And non Nexus and Pixel devices have even more bloatware. Many phones have both their own apps as Google’s apps, like Moto Z which has its own gallery app as well as Google Photos, why do we need two apps when they essentially perform same function, many phones have their own music player along with Google Play music, seriously why would I need two apps to do same damn thing. And there’s no way to uninstall them unless you root your phone, but then if you root your device banking apps block you. Then there’s that mandatory Google Drive app, seriously I don’t use Google Drive but I can’t uninstall that damn app because that’s a system app too.On iOS I don’t install separate cloud client for every service I just use iFiles 2 which lets me to connect and sync my files across multiple cloud services. As far as I know Android has such file manager too called File Expert which works the same way so obviously I would prefer it over other file managers but then many phones have their own file managers and you can’t just remove the existing file manager because apparently that’s a system app too. Of course if you buy a Nexus or Pixel device there’s no preinstalled file manager. The UI of apps is terrible, all controls are scattered throughout the screen, they are not located in one place,i.e., near the reach of your fingers like on iOS apps.Official Gmail app may be good for Gmail but its Exchange mail compatibility sucks a big time. Of course you can always install Outlook Mail client for that but again why should I have two mail apps hogging up my storage. Apple Mail app works perfectly fine with Exchange mail. The text to speech engine on Android is the most pathetic piece of shit I’ve ever used. The speech is heavily accented and even after setting it to English US it literally sounds as if Mario is reading the texts. The text to speech service of iOS is hundred times better.Sometimes I edit PDF files on my phone, and by editing I mean proper editing wherein I reposition images, edit text, fill forms, sign, annotate etc. On iOS I can do it easily via Wondershare PDFelement. But on Android the maximum editing I can do on a PDF is just annotations, signature, fill few forms and highlighting nothing more than that. Full fledged PDF editors like Wondershare PDFelement aren’t available for that goddamn OS. Damn even Windows 10 Mobile has a full fledged PDF editor why can’t Android. There’s no option for small but powerful phones in the world of Android, every Android phone is a goddamn big ass phablet. Each time you shove them down in your pocket they make you walk like a crippie or as if someone sodomised you. And try sitting down with those goliaths in your pocket, those things would most probably dislocate your hip bone. And what worse is neither the Android manufacturers nor other users listen to us, they all want those big ass bloated like a pig phablets. Hear me you Android nerds who think that big screen is everything y’all may be fatasses with whale flipper like fingers and may have poor eyesight but I’ve pretty thin fingers and good eyesight so a small device with powerful specs does make sense for me. Whenever I try to use those phonezillas of yours I cringe in disgust. And dear Sony a 4.6 inch device doesn’t count as compact and dear ZTE a big ass 5.2 inch device certainly doesn’t count as mini unless you are a stupid fatty and even the Big Mac looks mini to you.Of course some may say I’m nitpicking and if you’re one of such casual user you may adjust with Android, but for me no thanks I don’t need an Android device.
What are your views on the caste-based reservation system in India? How has it impacted both individuals and India as a whole?
Caste baste reservation is a sensitive topic. Therefore, it is not easy to conclude whether it is right or wrong. It is important to know the opinion of both sides before reaching a conclusion.Let us first consider the case of "General" category. How would you feel if you 90+ percentile in CAT or score good marks in JEE and still don't get selected in IIMs or IITs? You had worked hard but may be it was not enough. But wait, there is friend of yours who got in just because he had a caste certificate. You worked hard, you prepared for 1 year but didn't got selected while your friend got selected with even lower performance than yours! You didn't know what caste was till then but now you realized that it is something important. The reserved categories are getting this benefit of affirmative action just because their existed untouchability hundreds of years ago and they have been given this advantage to uplift themselves from the poverty & misery. But your friend doesn't seem like poor to you, he was as good as you in financial term or may be even better.Of course, you will get angry after knowing all this. You will feel cheated and hopeless too. Your friend had no idea how hard you worked, he got served everything in the silver plate just because your ancestors did something wrong. You were not part of those wrongdoings, heck you were not even born. And as far as you can see, your friend didn't faced any such discrimination. Why is he getting the benefit? Now you are totally frustrated. And someday when you are sitting with your other friends, someone tells the story about his friend getting selected through the reservation. You realize that your's story is similar too. Then, someone says, reservation is killing the merit. You've always felt that but now you know others feels the same. You are really really angry now on how unfair the system is? That's why you are now oppose to the system. But the truth is something different. These feeling of anger, jealousy, hopelessness, etc. are not there because you know about the lower cutoffs or your friends financial condition, instead they are there because that is the only thing you know. One of the most significant yet paradoxical changes in the caste system inthe contemporary period is that it has tended to become ‘invisible’ for the upper caste, urban middle and upper classes. For these groups, who have benefited the most from the developmental policies of the post-colonial era, caste has appeared to decline in significance precisely because it has done its job so well. Their caste status had been crucial in ensuring that these groups had the necessary economic and educational resources to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by rapid development. In particular, the upper caste elite were able to benefit from subsidised public education, specially professional education in science, technology, medicine and management. At the same time, they were also able to take advantage of the expansion of state sector jobs in the early decades after Independence. In this initial period, their lead over the rest of society (in terms of education) ensured that they did not face any serious competition. As their privileged status got consolidated in the second and third generations, these groups began to believe that their advancement had little to do with caste. Certainly for the third generations from these groups their economic and educational capital alone is quite sufficient to ensure that they will continue to get the best in terms of life chances. For this group, it now seems that caste plays no part in their public lives, being limited to the personal sphere of religious practice or marriage and kinship. However, a further complication is introduced by the fact that this is a differentiated group. Although the privileged as a group are overwhelmingly upper caste, not all upper caste people are privileged, some being poor. For the so called scheduled castes and tribes and the backward castes – the opposite has happened. For them, caste has become all too visible, indeed their caste has tended to eclipse the other dimensions of their identities. Because they have no inherited educational and social capital, and because they must compete with an already entrenched upper caste group, they cannot afford to abandon their caste identity for it is one of the few collective assets they have. Moreover, they continue to suffer from discrimination of various kinds. The policies of reservation and other forms of protective discrimination instituted by the state in response to political pressure serve as their lifelines. But using this lifeline tends to make their caste the all-important and often the only aspect of their identity that the world recognises. The juxtaposition of these two groups – a seemingly caste-less upper caste group and an apparently caste-defined lower caste group – is one of the central aspects of the institution of caste in the present.Source: Indian Society(11th standard NCERT)There is question on quora, What does the general category of people think about the reservation system in India? When I read this question and the answers there, I was seriously disappointed on how both the sides perceive each other. [The question has been change from the original, "Why does no general category student complain about the land and the businesses that have been passed on to them by their previous generations, yet they have a problem with the little benefits we SC/ST students get?"]Considering the case for "reserved" category is a difficult matter because their are 3 reserved category, SC, ST & OBC. So the best way to understand the reserved category view point is by dispelling the myths that exists in the society about reservation itself. For this purpose I will a lot of reference from the above mentioned question.Rich among Indian? Many people asks for a economic-based reservation instead of caste-based reservation. But they don't realise that in India everyone is poor. With only 3% of population paying income tax, it is hard to determine where to draw a line between poor and rich. But for the sake of finding that line let us assume that 3% is not the correct figure and actual figure is 6%(double). But then again, not everyone pays taxes, I mean there are children too. For this purpose let us assume that each tax paying person is part of a family of 4 members. Then it means just because your father pays taxes, your family comes in top 25% of richest Indian. That too when the lower limit of income tax slab is 2.5 lpa.But this is not the only data we have, we know that 25% of Indians are below poverty line of Rs.32/day and 42% Indians are below international poverty line of $1.25/day.So, now we know the division of our countries demography on the financial line.42% below international poverty line with around 25% below Indian poverty line.Top 25% earning above 2.5lpa.And the remaining 32% in between $1.25/day and 2.5 lpa.So how are you going to decide who is rich & who is poor?Even the assumption by SC/STs in the mentioned questioned about "General" category owing a lot of land and business is wrong. But it is not totally wrong. Many people ask for caste-based financial data. They ask for poor "upper castes", they tell the story of how unfair it is that a poor "general" category didn't suffers too. I believe since everyone is poor in our country, almost every "general" category person can relate with it too. Here is a data about the financial status as per caste, found in the 11th standard NCERT book.Although the data is 15 years old but it is quite relevant even today considering that the poverty hasn't reduced much in all this time. According to Planning Commission 2012 estimate 22% of Indian still live below poverty line. The Purpose of Reservation? The economic backwardness is not the reason for existence of reservation, for that purpose we already have many poverty elevation programs. Reservation is there to deal mainly with social backwardness & political backwardness along with economic backwardness. In his answer, Balaji Viswanathan (பாலாஜி விஸ்வநாதன்) has show his skepticism about reservation. He has asked, "Is a Dalit son of a doctor in Delhi necessarily more disadvantaged than the Brahmin son of a postman in a remote Bihar village?". If compare only on the basis of financial backwardness, Brahmin's son is at disadvantage. But on if you include the social factors, it becomes hard to reach a conclusion because social backwardness is hard to measure. In the case of caste-discrimination, it is even harder to see cause there is no clear distinction of race as in case of racial discrimination. To understand the social backwardness, let us take Balaji's question and tweak it a little as per gender discrimination. "Is a rich girl in Delhi necessarily more disadvantaged than the poor boy in a remote Bihar village?". Now ask yourself, . “Which of these are more susceptible to rape in India?” If you consider that rich girl from an orthodox family, “which of them has higher chances of remaining uneducated or not getting higher education?”. This difference is called Social Backwardness. Social backwardness is not restricted to a certain class, it extend to the whole community. It is futile to compare these things on the individual basis. In the above question of Dalit Doctor & Brahmin Postman, we were comparing the top 1% of datlit community with bottom 10% of brahmin community. If were to compare top 1% both or bottom 10% of both, the picture would have been very different.Actual share of "reserved" vs "deserved"?In reservation policy, reserve category are allowed to contest in Open category seats too. This gives them the advantage to occupy even greater seats than the actual reservation provided. In the answer to What does the general category of people think about the reservation system in India? , one of top answer has accused "reserved" category of eating the part of "General" category. But the problem here is that the one who was accusing never provided the data and probably never read it too.In 1990, Khushwant Singh wrote an article called "Brahmin Power", in the article the writer said:Brahmins form no more than 3.5% of the population of our country.....British rule, the largest proportion of government jobs (40%) were held by Kayasthas. Today* their figure has dropped to 7%. Next came the Muslims who were given special provileges by the British. They had 35% jobs in 1953, in free India their representation has dropped to 3.5%. Christians, likewise favoured by the English, had 15%, their figure has dropped to 1%. Scheduled Castes, tribes and backward classes, who had hardly any government jobs, have achieved a representation of 9%, have achieved a representation of 9%. But the most striking contrast is in the employment of Brahmins. Under the British they had 3% - fractionally less than the proportion of their population; today they hold as much as 70% of government jobs. I presume the figure refers only to gazetted posts. In the senior echelons of the civil service from the rank of deputy secretaries upward, out of 500 there are 310 Brahmins, i.e. 63%. Of the 26 state chief secretaties, 19 are Brahmins; of the 27 Governors and Lt. Governors 13 are Brahmins; of the 16 Supreme Court Judges, 9 are Brahmins; of the 330 judges of High Courts, 166 are Brahmins; of 140 ambassadors, 58 are Brahmins; of the total 3,300 IAS officers, 76 are Brahmins. They do equally well in electoral posts; of the 508 Lok Sabha members, 190 were Brahmins; of 244 in the Rajya Sabha, 89 are Brahmins. These statistics clearly prove that this 3.5% of Brahmin community of India holds between 36% to 63% of all the plum jobs available in the country. How this has come about I do not know. But I can scarcely believe that it is entirely due to the Brahmin’s higher IQ.This data is quite old(25 years old), India has moved much beyond now.But how much has it really changed?Source: Annual report 2011-2012, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance & PensionDownload link: persmin.gov.in/AnnualReport/AR2011_2012(Eng).pdfIndia has really moved on in all these years. It has the 4th largest GDP in the world.A recent list of dollar billionaires published by Forbes magazine features 55 Indian. All of them are majorly Vaishya otherwise Brahmin, they are CEOs of major corporations with business interests all over the world. Its not just the big business, even the small trade is controlled by the Vaishyas.Brahmins have also traditionally dominate the media. In 2006, CSDS did a survey on the social profile of New Delhi's media elite. Of the 315 key decision makers surveyed from 37 Delhi-based Hindi and English publications and TV channels, almost 90% of the decision-makers in English language print media and 79% in television were found to be 'upper caste'. Of them, 49% were Brahmin. Not one of the 315 was a Dalit or Adivasi; only 4% belonged to caste designated as Shudra, and 3% were muslims(who make up 13.4% of the population).- Arundhati Roy, The Doctor and the Saint. There is only one job in which dalits are over-represented. Its the job of sweeper or safai karamchari. There has been a "Modernization of Caste System". Even in the present world, Brahmins largely controls the knowledge but we call them Officers & Journalists; The Vaishyas control the trade but now we call the Businessmen; The Khatriyas has seen better days, but they are still, for the most part, rural landowner; The Shudras are now either part of OBC or poor "General" category and are keeping SC/STs at bay without looking up. The Advasi's are still fighting for their forests but now instead of British their enemy are Big Industrialist. And the majority of datilts are still doing the one thing they know.Efficiency by ReservationMany people think that the reservation reduces the efficiency. For those people, an SC/ST doctor is a no good because he didn't get into the college via 'merit'.But I'd always believed that the reservation instead makes me competitive. Because of reservation I suffer from Impostor syndrome. I know that if a "general" category persons fails an exam in IIT or IIM, it is because he didn't study or had some family problem, but if I failed, it would be because I didn't 'deserved' to be here in first place. So failure is not an option for me.What I think is a different matter, but recently this myth was broken by a The Hindu's article too.Quotas do not hurt efficiency, says study More shocking than the article was the public's response to this article, for which the editor even printed a separate article. When data trumps rhetoricThe Invisibility of Caste-DiscriminationEvery now & then, there is news about atrocities on dalits/adivasis, but we have now made a habit of ignoring these news. But I know someday people will give their "chalta hai" attitude and fight for justice(I just hope they chose the right side :P). Because a decade ago even the gender discrimination was ignored. It is a very positive development that violence against the women has, at last, become a big political issue in India, starting with the public outrage that followed a horrific incident of gang-rape in December 2012. The debate around this issue has drawn attention to many aspects of gender discrimination(including, but not only, the callous attitude of police towards complaints of sexual violence), which had been grossly neglected for the long time. But it is also worth noting that the protests, which were hugely overdue and have become strongly - and appropriately - vocal, could be sparked off by an incident that involved a victim(a medical student) with whom the Indian middle classes could easily identity. Similar brutalities have happened in the lives of economically and socially downtrodden Dalit women for years, without getting much attention in the mainstream media or causing a significant public outcry.- Jean Drèze & Amartya Sen, An Uncertain GloryAccording to the National Crime Records Bureau, a crime is committed against a Dalit by a non-dalit every sixteen minutes; every day, more than 4 untouchable women are raped by touchable; every week, 13 Dalits are murdered and 6 dalits are kidnapped. In 2012 alone, the year of Delhi gang-rape and murder, 1574 Dalit women were raped(the rule of thumb is that only 10% of rapes or other crimes against dalits are reported), and 651 datilts were murdered. That's just rape and butchery. Not the stripping and parading naked, the forced shit eating(literally), the seizing of land, the social boycotts, the restriction of access to drinking water. These statistics wouldn't include, say, Bant Singh of Punjab, a Mazhabi Dalit Sikh, who in 2005 had both his arms and a leg cleaved off for daring to file a case against the men who gang-raped his daughter. There are no separate statistics for triple amputees.- Arundhati Roy, The Doctor and the SaintBut I think that 'caste-discrimination' creating a public outcry is almost impossible as of now. Because if a general "General" category person is going to read this article, he would probably think that Arundhati Roy & Amartya Sen wants to join politics. For him Caste is a tool that politicians use for the vote bank politics and that is why they are not removing reservation. There are various other arguments too like Revenge by SC/STs, reservation being the cause of brain drain, etc.I don't know how come reservation is revenge for atrocities? but about brain drain I've written an article: Brain drain & Reservation.Weather reservation should end or not? is not my decision. It up to what you think is right. If you support it as it is, its good and if you still want to oppose it, its good too.For me end of reservation system could be productive as well. Because end of reservation might be able to sow the seeds of dalit revolution in India, especially North India.
