Foods that have a “certified organic” label must meet specific legal criteria to be defined as “organic.”The thing is, “organic” does not mean what most people think it means.For example, one huge, huge false belief I see all the time is the idea that organic means no pesticides. Wrong! Organic food is grown with pesticides. Lots of pesticides. Organic means no synthetic pesticides.Synthetic pesticides are pesticides designed by humans. They are custom-tailored to attack specific pests and not be toxic to other things, which means they’re generally safer and used in smaller amounts.Organic pesticides are made in a lab but based on natural poisons. They’re usually less specific, so you need more of them and, ironically, they’re often more toxic to people and other organisms. But many people have an emotional feeling that natural is good and synthetic is bad, so…Another common false belief is that organic food is not genetically manipulated. Cisgenic and transgenic GM food can not be labeled organic. However, you can take seeds, blast them with radiation or soak them in DNA-damaging chemicals, grow them, and selectively breed the results if you see traits you like. This process is called “mutagenesis.” Using radiation or chemicals to cause random mutations and then breeding those mutations is perfectly organic, and food created this way can be sold with an organic label.Finally, some folks have the weird idea, for reasons I don’t understand, that “organic” means “sustainably produced.” This is just flat-out wrong. I don’t know where people get this idea. Organic labeling has nothing to do with sustainable farming.

No, I cannot disprove that a piece of Noah’s ark was found, but use some common sense. This was supposedly built to biblical specifications. It is huge. It is over 500 ft. long, 51 feet high and 85 feet wide. It is the largest timber framed structure in North America.I confess that I am not the Noah the ark builder, I am just a lowly building contractor.Unlike Noah, I cannot clear cut an entire forest by myself . . . by hand. Nor can I cut an entire forest worth of wood into wood planks and support beams . . . by hand. So the problem of building a massive ark is first and foremost that it would require a few lifetimes for one person to build. Noah didn’t build an ark like this.Edit: In the comments someone pointed out that Noah built this after he was 500 over the course of a hundred years. Even assuming that Noah lived that long and had a spare 100 years to build a boat, this requires lots and lots of hard physical labor. A human in top physical condition in the prime of life has about 10 years give or take that they can keep it up before injuries from repetitive motion and straining catches up to them. At the least they’re washed up and at worst they’re crippled.Even if I had that wood sitting nearby, pre-cut and ready to go it would still take me two or three years to build something that big.So Noah had laminated beams, machine bolts and custom built metal post anchor plates? I had no idea.This craft required an industrialized nation to build it. Without the large laminated beams curved to meet specifications and metal ties welded together (in a factory somewhere) according to a design that a structural engineer drew up specific to this construction this whole thing would collapse under its own weight. I’m pretty sure they used trucks to bring in the building materials.This boat is literally impossible to build in a pre-industrial society. It requires modern engineering, lots of people, lots of planning and lots of money.The story of Noah’s ark cannot be literal. It defies reality in so many ways.Bible stories are for teaching morality and for gaining meaning from these shared stories. It’s for increasing spiritual awareness and focusing on higher values.Treating the bible as literal scientific and historical text debases it in my opinion.
