What are you doing nowadays after your JEE Advanced 2020?

Finally, finally the great great demonic exam has left our chambers of anxiousness. The great mammoth of JEE syllabus is off my shouldersNow first thing that comes to mindWhat should be done of this mess I've made on my shelf 🤔I think I'll keep it like this 😅. As a fond memory of those good old, mind stretching days. So, now the question, how am I spending my days?I'm currently attempting to learn piano, on a brand new casio keyboard. Actually I had learnt casio before but that was in class 5. So.. Yea I'm trying to recollect all the forgotten notes 🎶.Also trying out some Beethoven classics(you know those, absolutely magical tunes)Apart from that I spend my time watching the beautiful game and of course my favorite team, which you can see in my profile pic (haters can comment down below 😂)Oh how much I miss the beautiful game⚽❤Haven't played for about 2 years 😭😭😭. So I hope that can resume soon by some means possible. Although due to lockdown it may not be possible (just wanna feel the ball at my feet). The place where I live has got no sort of playground anywhere.Advanced didn't go as well as expected, so I have no clue which college I will end up inApart from this, nothing much really 😁. Just scrolling through quora(like I am right now) and a…..yea😊 that's it I guess.See you later fellas.Peace out ✌👉Oh and in case you're wondering, I don't watch IPL, it's become too boring😑.Edit: I’m also checking out C programming language tutorials(Just in case)

What is wrong with the Indian education system?

I'd like to compare Indian education with Western.Curiosity.India.Golu: Sir, why is CuSO4 blue in color?Masterji: CuSO4 is in the syllabus, why it is blue is out of the syllabus. Sit down Idiot, don't ask funny questions.West.James: Sir, why CuSO4 is not white?Sir: Nice question. I'd appreciate your curiosity, meet me after the class. You say Indians are not innovative. How can we be, we were never allowed to go beyond the Syllabus.AttendenceWest: No one is forced for minimum attendence and teacher with less attendence are considered to be lacking skills. So, teacher will always try to make his class interesting.India: Everyone has atleast 75%, coz we're forced to do. So, that our teachers are not exposed. Teachers only care about completing their syllabus no matter how boring they teach.CreativityIndiaMe: Mom, I want to join Piano classes.Mom: Delhi wale fufaji son has topped JEE, you just start preparing for it. I'm going to coaching center for your admittance.West.Me: Mom, I want to join special classes for Olympiad.Mom: That's great son. But you have to complete your French course. Then you can do what your heart wants. In India, we were never allowed to explore new roads. We all have to choose from limited choices Engg, Med, Law, Arch, C.A., Dentistry, etc.College EntranceWestJames got admission in CMU, coz he was passionate programmer and had often made interesting stuffs in his school days.IndiaGolu didn't get admission in premiere institute, coz he wasn't interested in boring problem solving. He can't enhance his skills coz he was busy coaching. The Entrance style is still century old British model, where only IQ, memory and problem solving is given priority.Dreams.India.Me: Papa, I want to open a startup.Papa: Beta, you can't even take care of yourself. Chup chap UPSC ka preparation chalu karo. (Just start your UPSC prep.)West.Me: Dad, I want to start my own band.Papa: That's great, my son has grown up. Now you should stand on your own feet.In India, there is competition everywhere in everything. It's not our daddy's fault. But…ProfessorIndia.Me: Sir, I want to know more about Schrödinger's equation.Prof.: Books by J.J. Sakurai or Paul Dirac even Manjit Kumar would work.West.Me: Sir, I want to know more about Schrödinger's equationProf: I'd talk with Prof. Fernando Brandao, he works in JJ Thompson Laboratory. But make sure you go thru his research works. In the West, Professors are not mere teachers but also brilliant contributor in Research world.Student’s dreamIndia.B.Tech in IITMBA in IIMJob in Fortune 500 and settle in USWest.B.S. in MIT/UCB/CMU/Caltech/Yale/PennM.S. in MIT/UCB/CMU/Caltech/Yale/PennPhd in MIT/UCB/CMU/Caltech/Yale/PennResearchIndia is lagging in the research world. Higher education always doesn't means job but also in exploring new horizons. Thanks 4 reading.

What's the best and fastest way to learn Music theory?

In a rural community college I had the hardest class I’ve ever taught. Music 1, Introduction To Music. No prerequisites were required, and half the students had no or little experience in music. I did not make up the syllabus, I inherited it from the guy who did. He was a terrific teacher, charismatic and beloved; I was an avant-garde/experimental-rock/studio composer, eclectic and eccentric. In a single term, students were required to learn music notation (precisely, no approximations, the sharps or flats had to be exactly placed, the note-heads, stems, flags, and beams in the right direction, with treble, bass, and alto clefs aligned perfectly on the staff). Then rhythms, the relationships between whole notes down to 16ths, including dotted notes. Then assembling them into bars. That brought in meters, simple (duple, triple, quadruple, e.g., 2/4, and compound (same thing, only now divided into 3 parts, e.g., 6/8). Thus began a process, which continued throughout the term, of learning to read, write, and clap rhythmic music examples. Now we came to scales and keys. Required memorization of all 14 possible major and 14 minor keys, including precise placement of the sharps/flats/naturals, and their respective scales, ascending and descending (an aspect of minor keys is that there are three different types); simultaneously we introduced the Circle of Fifths, kind of the musical equivalent of a slide rule, and absolutely critical to all tonal music. Then the keyboard: each note on the piano keyboard has a different designation, for ex., middle C is c1, the next lower octave is c, then C, then CC (there is a different form in Europe). Test: using a printed keyboard, identify particular notes by their correct name and vice versa. Finally, basic performance: Recorder, at least the basic minimum needed to play a simple tune. Piano, play a simple exercise using both hands. There was a final written exam, plus live individual performance, clapping exercises in simple and compound meters, recorder (“When The Saints…”) and keyboard (a little tune of my own). The only omission from my freshman-year theory class back in the Dark Ages was we included sight-singing from printed music, and taking down dictation from music played by the instructor, but that course was over two terms. Everything else had to be compressed into one term, about 30 sessions. I was amazed that non-musicians could manage this, and indeed it was a challenge. I later learned that counselors actually recommended the course to students as an easy one; after all, how hard could Introduction To Music be?Needless to say, student retention was abysmal. My chairman rarely got up to 48%. I was determined to do better, and tried every trick I could think of. First, I rewrote the textbook (which the bookstore sold for $6), rather than the recommended one (which was $125). Then I tried ending class early and working with little study groups. I improved to 55%. Not good enough. By pure luck, noticing that when students didn’t understand what I was demonstrating, some students would give their neighbors hints, or suggest a different approach. That was a grand epiphany. From then on, I offered to those who were clearly more advanced a pass on part of the dreaded performance exams, in exchange for making themselves available to tutor 1–3 students. Peer teaching worked wonders, like having 3 teaching assistants for a class of 30. By my last term, retention was up to 77%.Note, please, that this isn’t even what most musicians consider “theory,” it’s just basic musicianship. “Real” theory was two more terms, which treated intervals, triads, chords, figured bass, harmony, and basic voice-leading. Counterpoint was another course, which the college didn’t offer. What is my conclusion? I doubt that anyone unwilling to put in two serious hours a day can learn theory online. I think the classroom setting is important, because it proceeds at the pace of the slower students, and forces the teacher to try several ways of explaining difficult concepts, such as enharmonic keys, keys with two different notations, like F-sharp major/G-flat major, and relative vs parallel major and minor keys.Unfortunately, there seems to be no universal standard. Every college and university offers its own solution. I personally think a two-term Musicianship course that includes sight singing and dictation is of enormous benefit to any musician, even instrumentalists who think they’ll never need to know theory. My instinct is that larger schools, such as LA City College, will be more fruitful than small ones, but Peer Teaching is invaluable, and if you can’t enroll, enhance the Berklee online course by studying privately with a more advanced musician. It may be less thorough (it’s hard to work in everything), but better for comprehension.
