PDF Editor FAQ

What is the best political solution to the Kashmir conflict? Should Kashmir be given independence? Is the status quo the best solution?

Perspective of a Nepali citizen here.Kashmiris Muslims seem to be a proud people. They have been fighting the Indian government/army for almost 70 years now. Great are those mothers who give birth to sons and daughters who are willing to lay down their lives for their race, religion, language, culture, identity and freedom. Above all, for independence (aazadi). Everybody should respect such display of bravery, courage, and determination. I can feel that it is an issue that is very close to your hearts.………Kashmiris are a little more fair than an average Indian. They speak a different language. They wear those long dresses. Their country is mountainous. And they grow saffron there. And, historically it used to be sometimes free, sometimes a vassal, sometimes divided country and other times conquered region. Can these be reasons for wanting a full independence? There are twenty-nine states in India and where were guns fired for independence?Kashmir and the North-east. Why, you ask? Its written on the wall: In Kashmir its ISLAM. In the north-east it was religion, race including language. What is the difference between a Bhat and Bhutto or Butt? It’s ISLAM. To be more precise militant-political-jihadi Islam.…….But let's examine what odds are stacked against full independence?Seventy years is a long time. Much water has flowed in the Sutlej river. It has been a protracted cause. India has also sacrificed many sons and daughters and a lot of money for 'containing' and 'maintaining' Kashmir. It also has other stakes. It is an emerging power. Giving up Kashmir at this juncture is not possible. She will assert herself at home and abroad. And she has asserted herself through the abrogation of Article 370.Pelting stones at security personnel, throwing Molotov cocktails at the army vehicles or raising a thousand men strong jihadi band is not going to win anybody a nation. Case in point, in my home country of Nepal, the Maoists at their peak controlled around 80% of the land area, had a parallel government, army, militia but the resource-poor Nepal army pushed them to the brink in a matter of few years.India is a nation with a nuclear arsenal and ranks 4th in terms of global firepower. More importantly, India was subjugated by Islamic forces for 1000 years. It was divided to create an Islamic nation. It is in no mood to be defeated again by Islam in the name of Kashmir Independence. It is not a weak nation anymore.Neither a handful of jihadis or even massive peaceful protests is going to bring India to its knees. It's simply not possible. Look at Hongkong. Even the west sympathies with the Hongkong protestors but they are going nowhere even after six months. Look at Xinjian. Kashmir does not have international sympathizers. No sane person in the west or east believes that religion is as important for nations or communities or an individual in the twenty first century. Religion is clearly thought of as a regressive force. And Islam has an image problem. Islam's triumph in Kashmir will look more like Saudi Arabia at its best or Syria at its worst. If becomes like turkey or Indonesia, the hardline faction will attempt coup de tat, until it does not win. In its backyard, Pakistan, the only nation founded in the name of Islam is also not a good example. And even if, Kashmir gets independence what rare resources it has got? How's it gonna survive? It so far away from the coasts. It cannot compete with China in terms of technology, manufacturing prowess, manpower or other manufacturing hubs like Bangladesh or Vietnam. India won't trade with it. Pakistan is going to be its only trading partner or market. As for tourism, there are Nepal, leh-Ladakh, Bhutan, Tibet nearby for people to visit. Maybe there is a hydro-electricity potential but the only buyer would be Pakistan. Nations do not run on religions as history shows but on money and money, Kashmir will sorely lack if it becomes independent.…If you raise Islam as the rallying cause you might look different from other parts of India but if you lay it to rest, you are no different than other Indian states. For God's sake, India by 2050, the Muslim population of India is projected to grow to 311 million and surpass Indonesia to become the world's largest Muslim population. How is it going to be problematic by any means for an average Kashmiri Muslim to be inhabiting the country with the largest Islamic population? Not only the population will grow in India, but it is also poised to becoming a global economic power in the coming decades. Why do you guys not want to work for a rich, progressive company and get rich yourselves? At least, I want to. The mid-hills and mountains of Nepal are no different than that of Kashmir. Our skin color, nose-length and beard are also no different. Even the traditional architecture seems to be similar. Guys living in the hills is damn difficult. It’s a life of drudgery. You will need opportunities for education and employment and trading and India is the right partner or country. However much you want, you cannot change your geographical reality.Elect good people to your state parliament, stop the stone pelting, send your kids to schools and youths to colleges, go to your fields and plant saffron. The army will return to the barracks. There will be tourists on the boats in the lakes of Srinagar (and me too).Kashmir's future is with India.

Which is the best solution to the issue of Kashmir?

Four things:Communicate with absolute clarity that the unity and integrity of India is non-negotiable. No discussion - No dialogue - Nothing grey or floating.Declare article 370 as invalid through an ordinance - let the state integrate with the rest of the country - just like all other parts of the nation.Remove AFSPA in stages - Give freedom and enable the local police and the administration to deal with separatism as a law and order issue (just like Punjab). Investigate and bring charge sheets in every alleged and actual case of atrocity reported - provide transparent justice.Simply release the internet search history and browsing data of the separatist leaders of Kashmir - dry up their illegitimate sources of funding - Continue to provide incentives for the regular people to live peacefully.India will never be divided on the basis of religion again - whatever be the cost.Thank you for reading. Cheers and peace.

What is best solution to prevent Pakistan striking India?

The quickest and cleanest way to end this "war" is to just turn off the damn internet and televisions in both countries for a couple of days. Pretty sure this will solve most problems by allowing the governments and military to do their job without having to worry about a billion idiots breathing down their necks trying to teach them how to do their jobs.
