Read this very carefully if you are new to operating systems.Windows XP Professional is the best OS in the history ever, One can call it a legend of all operating systems because, Still 40 % of Microsoft users in the world are using XP… Example Corporates, Educational Institutions, Some Server Based Data stations and many more, Only because of its expandability and Stability. Most of the Tweaks and patches are buitly by third parties just like open source, that makes it most stable and no nonsense operating system ever. But this also a draw back as it is easily vulnarable to malwares and spywares.Windows 7 Ultimate is the Legend Killer, And it is built in with all the tools even most of the tools found in windows 7 are missing in Windows 10. Windows 7 is the Most stable OS till date. And holds 35% market share. Windows 7 is the best of both worlds comparitively (Xp and 10) . I am using it since 2012. With no complaint at all.Windows 10 Pro is the crapiest OS till date. There are two modes a) Desktop Mode and b) Windows App mode. New app layer that developed for windows mobile to run arm based applications were cloned to desktop OS. This operating system is certainly not for adults, It is just for kids, To play games, Watch Movies and Keep all night long for updates. There is no option to turn off the update. My laptop System Volume was ceasead due to 15 GB of uninstalled updates. And totally waste of my data and bandwidth. Even if you disable Update service from system config menu There are several back doors for downloading updates, when connected to internet. I got rid of Windows 10 in just one month and switched back to Windows 7. Believe me Windows 10 is my last and third suggestion, As the number suggest it is the third class Operating System, Since UEFI rolled in Microsoft made deal with Hardware manufactures to limit the Backward compability to promote Windows 10 sales. If you are getting Windows 10 forcefully without having option and drivers to other OS, then you are the most unluckiest PC owner ever.Edit 1. 29 August 2019I like to thank everyone one for appreciating my Frank and bold review on Windows 10. As all of you know it has been over one year I have written this answer and many people inboxed me and asked is there any changes or development in my answer regarding Windows 10 usage in this time? As there were several updates released by Microsoft for W10 in this time....So, It is true that there were regular updates for this product from Microsoft. But actual fact we have to look into is that, Are those updates really useful for your OS???Most of the update patches provided by Microsoft are for the purpose of1) Just to tighten it's licenced usage,2) To collect more information on product and third party products usage.3) To develop more revenue from advertising.4) To bind customer with the product forcefully or make the OS prison for the User. (Due to unnecessary security updates, which will also bind your precious Data with the OS, If you are not careful enough.)5) To partially unintentionally spy on its users, Google does it, Yandex does it, why Microsoft have to stay behind, So they decided, let's do it!!!And Microsoft itself confirmed that their new vision is not to provide just a perfect product, So they are providing Windows 10 as a Service, So we all know a perfect product can last a lifetime, But a perfect service for a life is a myth, So what Microsoft did is, It over run itself and destroyed it's legacy.Coming to my usage review with new updates.I'm still dissatisfied and disappointed with Windows 10 Pro. Even with new updates.I am forcefully using this devil's OS in my office PC since two years, And it made my life quite miserable with its faults or purpose-full defects by Microsoft.1) Semiannual channel updates really not helping, Once in a while the system drive will run on low memory, with or without installing updates. Even though I store all my data on D : Drive, That's another story. I have to manually delete those stupid updates. Or else C: drive will cease.2) There are no changes in Graphics, Apart from Start button got added in W10 on many Users Demand when Users Trolled W8.1 for making a OS without Start Button. And some customisations were added with reduced functionality compared to W7 later in W10 updates. Windows 7 had a 3D Graphical User Interface. But I don't know why W10 down graded their Graphics to Two Dimensional Look Like logos, Icons and Interface, It sucks and when I suddenly switch from my personal XP or Windows 7 to Office Windows 10 Pc. I feel like, I'm looking at a Cloned Linux Distro that tried to mimic Microsoft Windows but failed terribly. Microsoft lost its originality this is really harsh but this is the truth.3) The services and processes really suck in W10. When Internet Explorer deal with some unexpected Error instead of completely terminating process it will lock the process in background and closes application. If you open Internet Explorer you will get only unresponsive blank User Interface. We have to Sign off the system and must sign in again, In worst case restart is necessary.4) Printer and other hardware support has become very unfriendly. We get only blank pages as a print out, When print command is given in web browsers, Especially Chrome. It seems like Google and Microsoft not resolved their issues properly. Printer behaves irratically most of the time, when print it given from the inbuilt default Picture App. Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 7 was thousand times better than this crappy app. If you need more features we have to purchase Microsoft upgrade or latest Microsoft Crappy office suite, which is also cloud based and internet connection is a must for time to time basis.5) This is the only crappy OS that has Two control Panels, One is called “Settings” and works in Windows App Mode, Other is Executable App “Control Panel” works in Desktop Mode. Microsoft provided same options in both modes, but they used two parallel apps to bypass user settings. Yes, Microsoft has become very cunning!!!6) Bitlocker Drive encryption is turned on by W10 from the beginning, So you can not backup the OS using thirdparty Backup Softwares, First you have to disable, Encryption which will take very long hours depending on your HDD size.7) Microsoft Edge browser is pretty much Useless why even they added it in W10. We can use Chrome or Firefox instead of that which has very rich features and highly customisable. Internet Explorer 8 onwards all the higher versions became pretty much Junky, And Active X feature Doesn't even work like it used work in IE 8. All leading industry application and educational Institutions use Active X, And that is why they prefer Windows XP, Windows 7. Not crappy Windows 8.1 ++ or Windows 10.8) Most of the direct tools which found in Windows 7 is removed in W10, Like A) Windows Experience Index. B) Windows Aero, And some direct settings in Control Panel. And instead of that Microsoft added so much spying bloatwares in OS.9) And they are happy to spy on you and collect your data anonymously to develop their Crappy Operating System to Next Sh*ty level. They even make you accept their Licence agreement so extensively that, You must know, If Microsoft decides you could live in their mercy. I have nearly studied every answer on the salary of IBPS PO but unfortunately most of the audience get confused about the salary and calculation because of some misconception of pay structure understanding.After studying the 10th bipartite agreement, discussion with PO friends and as I am working in an Insurance organization I think I will be able to clear the doubts.So what is bipartite agreement ?For Bank employees wage is revised after every 5 years just like the Pay Commission of Central Govt Employees which is revised after every 10 years. So the last time wage is revised for Bank employees is in 2012 acc to 10th Bipartite settlement. Actually it came into effect on June 2015 and all employees got the arrears from 2012 to 2015 acc to their pay scale. The next wage revision is due from 2017 i.e the 11th Bipartite settlement. Govt generally delays the revision for 3 years so it is expected to be revised on June 2020 but due to the Covid 19 pandemic it may delay further. But no worries as employees will get arrears acc to the new pay scale from 2017. So the salaries we are calculating on 10th bipartite settlement ; actual salary will be higher and you will get the extra remunerations as arrears after wage is revised.Now, when you join as a IBPS PO you are actually a Junior Management Officer in the grade Scale 1Here is the basic pay structure of Scale 1 -23700 - 980(7) - 30560 - 1145(2) - 32850 - 1310(7) - 42020So what is this pay structure?The values in odd places are called basic pays and the values in even places are called increments. This means your starting basic pay will be 23700 and after every one year of service you will get an increment of 980. This will continue for 7 years. After that when your basic pay will reach 30560 you will get increments of 1145 for 2 years. In this way your basic pay will increase and it will reach a maximum of 42020. This will only happen if you don’t take any promotion and stay in scale 1 for 16 years. So this is unnecessary. I just described you for your understanding. When you get promoted after 2 years you will be in Scale 2 and the pay structure will be different.Next thing is the Dearness allowance, What is this ?When you see someone telling the salary of PO 35000 someone is saying 38000 another one says 40000. This happens mainly because of this DA thing. See Dearness allowance is adjusted in accordance with the profit/loss of the organization and inflation rates of the market. In Banking organization Dearness allowance is revised( most of the time increases but can decrease also) after every 3 months so 4 times in a year while in central govt pay structure dearness allowance is revised only 2 times in a year. Last revised DA in Banking is on Feb 2020 which is 75.9% . It will be again revised in May 2020 so don’t get confused if salary differs after every 3 months.So the Dearness Allowance from Feb to April 2020 is 75.9% of basic pay.75.9% of 23700 = 17988.3/-Next thing is the House Rent Allowance, It is a variable thing why I said this I will explain hereA class cities HRA 9% , B class cities HRA 8% and other cities HRA 7% on the basic payYou generally have 3 choicesa) You will be provided accommodation by the bank if available, in this case you will not get any extra HRAb)You can take a rented flat on lease and the rent of the flat will be credited by your bank directly to the account of the owner of the flat. This is called leased accommodation and the leased amount will vary from bank to bank. It is not specified but there is certainly a cap above which no bank will provide the rent. You can approximately take is as 15k in metro cities and 8–10k for C class cities.c)If you don’t choose the above two conditions then you will get the HRA allowance added to your salary as the mentioned percentageLet you are working in the other city category area then you will get7% of 23700=1659/-Now the Special allowance benefitIt is a benefit given to the bank employees and according to the 10th bipartite settlement for IBPS PO Scale 1 it is7.75% of Basic pay + applicable Dearness allowanceLet’s do the calculation7.75 % of 23700 + 75.9% of ( 7.75% of 23700) = 1836.75 + 1394.09 = 3230.84/-City compensatory allowanceFor A class cities it is 4% and for B class it is 3% for other cities it is 0% on basic payThe above allowance will constitute your gross salary which will be23700 + 17988.3(DA) +1659( HRA ) + 3230.84( SPL allw ) = 46578.14/-The above salary is the least salary one will get after joining in a C class city with no CCA and less HRA.Besides this PO is entitled to get the following benefits alsoMedical reimbursement of 8000 per yearNewspaper reimbursement every monthMobile Bill reimbursement every monthEntertainment allowanceCanteen subsidyTravel AllowanceOfficers get travel allowance as petrol reimbursement of 2 wheeler or 4 wheeler which again varies from bank to bank. If you have vehicle you can get the reimbursement for petrol expenses. You can take an approx 1000–2000/- for petrol reimbursement.These are all the general allowance you will get.There are other allowances like Leave Travel Concession, Deputation allowance, Hill allowance, Halting allowance, Special area allowance, mid academic year transfer allowance, compensation on transfer allowance, split duty allowance, furniture allowance etc etc . You don’t need to know every details as you will not get this benefits immediately. After joining you will be well aware of every details.The above salary discussion is for the period FEB 2020 to April 2020 after that DA will be revised and salary will change again. Once the wage revision is done acc to the 11th bipartite settlement the whole pay structure will change.Here I have discussed the basic gross salary, If you guys are interested I will come up with the details of the allowances too.Feel free to ask your doubts. The following are my personal opinions and should in no be treated as the opinion of the department or its students. I have tried to answer the questions you have raised and added a few more things that is necessary to gain a complete picture of the department-1)Placements-I think it is unfair to say the placements are low in ECE.Why did NITK have such poor placements in 2012-13 compared to other good NITs?If you look at the answer above, you will see that NITK ECE had higher placements in my year of graduation(2013) compared to even Comps. And in terms of core jobs, ECE department prepares their students much better compared to EEE that tends to focus much more on the electrical than the electronics in an environment where most jobs offered are in VLSI.2)Competition- Well there's a reason for the high competition. It's because your peers are that good. This is why you should choose such a program where you get to be with and learn from search great peers.3)Grading- I think that the grading in our department is extremely fair in general. Our department routinely awards 10 pointers to the top 7-10 percent of the class, which is something that is unheard of in departments like Electrical. In fact, a lot of my friends in Electrical complain that despite being in the top 10 of their class they are 8-pointers. This proves to be a problem with applications for higher studies. The low grades perception is probably due to the competition that I spoke of in 2).4)Faculty- I think ECE has some of the best faculty in NITK. Most Profs are genuinely ready to help their students if they approach them. I know of instances where Profs have gone out of their way to help students with things like letters of recommendation. In terms of academic expertise, they routinely publish papers in internation journals/conferences. In fact, despite teaching being a very small component of their review process, most Profs put in a lot of effort into their courses.5)Facilities- The lab facilities of our department are very good. We have world class equipment in the fields of Microwaves and DSP. The Microprocessers Lab has great ARM based boards that are well maintained( Contrast this to Electrical who were only offered labs using the 8051 Microcontroller which came out in the 1980s). The Analog Labs are exceptional in their maintenance and routinely offer help and resources during ENGINEER.6)Outcome- If you survive NITK ECE, you know you are a capable engineer that has quite a decent alumni network and great profs that are always happy to help you with your future endeavors.I know this might not be the story that fits for all the 106 students in my batch, but I believe that the department has been criticized extensively, unfairly so on most occasions.
