I woke up with a tattoo after a wild alcoholic night out.Clueless about that black thing I had on the back of my neck, I pulled my hair back in a ponytail to prevent my hair from getting wet inside the shower. As soon as the hot water hit my skin, I felt a weird sensation on that area. It wasn't pain, but the skin felt overly sensitive. When I looked at it on the mirror, my eyes filled with horror. I had two things that an underage 16-year old shouldn't have: a tattoo and an hangover.That's for saying that I didn't decide to get a tattoo, it just happened.I really had a hard time trying to figure out what the hell had happened. Basically, it prevented travelers and navigators from getting lost.One day I had an epiphany. A simple, yet powerful, realization changed my whole life.At that time I was stuck into toxicity, fake happiness and unhealthy environments. I focused too much on the wrong things, creating my own black hole of self rejection. I was completely lost, waiting for someone to notice it. Ignoring the fact that I shouldn't have waited for someone to save me, because I could have saved myself.For the following years, I worked on myself very patiently. I got to know my weaknesses and strengths. What I like and what I don't like. What is better for me and what's not. It was stressing, confusing and hard but I felt like something was guiding me and even if I had gotten lost again, I could have found the right path.So if you want a short answer: I won't regret getting my tattoo even when my body will no longer be this young, skinny and toned. And that's because there are so many more values than physical appearance. Many people get tattoos for their aesthetic, while others for the meaning behind it.The compass rose I have tattooed on my skin has given me so much confidence. Confidence for what? For following my heart and dreams without being too scared. They know the way.And after all, the tattoo didn't turn out too bad either!
