A friend has a gap of 8 yrs between giving 12th and graduation. She also has call center experience. Will that affect Canada PR application?
Every occupation has certain eligibility criteria like level of education, certifications etc.Check her NOC and see if Graduation or any post Secondary degree is a prerequisite.According to information given for 6552 - Other customer and information services representatives, she is eligible as only Secondary School is a requirement so her experience would be valid.According to my personal opinion, I think she is eligible for the program and she can apply. It will not affect her application for permanent residence. She will need at least 1 year of continuous full time work experience that she can validate through a reference letter from employer. Her job duties in the reference letter should align with those mentioned in the link above.Other documents like salary slips are also required.Hope it was helpful.
How can labor market discrimination be empirically measured?
Here in Finland, Akhlaq Ahmad published his study about labour market discrimination in March.[1]In his study, he sent 5,000 job applications to employers in low-paid fields, with the aim of finding out how much one’s name influences the probability of being invited to a job interview.Ahmad created five groups of job seekers representing different ethnicities: Finnish-born, English, Russian, Iraqi, and Somali. Then he sent job applications to 1,000 vacancies from each of these groups through the website of the employment services, in the fields of restaurant work, catering, retail, office work, cleaning, and customer service. All imaginary job seekers were identical: the same education, the same amount of previous experience. All of them had gone to school only in Finland, which meant that they had either been born in Finland or arrived here before the first grade. All of them spoke excellent Finnish. Half of them were men, and half of them were women. They only differed from each other in regard to their names. The results were strikingly different. The applicants with a Finnish name were invited to a job interview 390 times out of 1,000, while the applicants with an Iraqi name only received 134 invitations. The applicants with a Somali name were the least successful: only 99 of them were invited to a job interview. The results were also different for men and women: in all groups, the applications with a woman’s name on them were more successful. In the following graph you can see the number of invitations received per each 500 job applications in the different groups: Finnish, English, Russian, Iraqi, and Somali. The invitations received by women are marked with red, and those received by men are marked by blue.(Image source)The field didn’t have much impact on the results, and neither did the location or the sex of the employer. Ahmad didn’t detect any impact related to the timing of the application.Taking account all this, the drastic differences attributable only to the ethnicity and mother tongue of the applicant were revealing. While Finnish women received 221 invitations out of 500 applications, the men with a Somali background only received 34 out of 500.In other words, a native Finnish woman is 6.5 times more likely to be invited to a job interview than a man with a Somali background, all else being equal. The study confirms what many people with an immigrant background have suspected for a long time. More than 50 % of the Arabic speakers living in Finland tell that they have faced discrimination in the labour market, and so do 89 % of the Somali speakers. The Roma people born in Finland face even more discrimination than newcomers. And what makes the results even more depressing is that all these imaginary job seekers had either born here or learned Finnish early in their life.I was personally surprised that women were more successful than men, at least when applying for low-paid jobs.It seems that anonymized job applications should really be adopted much more often.Footnotes[1] When the Name Matters: An Experimental Investigation of Ethnic Discrimination in the Finnish Labor Market
