Elon Musk’s companies are heavily tied to government - both in a regulatory sense, and from a contract/tax/incentive perspective.Most smart business leaders either donate to both parties, or donate to neither. When your enterprises rely heavily on permission slips from government, government contracts, and tax incentives to your customers that motivate them to purchase your products, it’s a safer bet to be able to say you supported the winner (or the winner’s party) no matter which party they’re with.

[see comments below for possible explanations!]Why it’s necessary to sign a permission slip to visit Hogsmeade, but not, for example, to play Quidditch — or to compete in the Triwizard Tournament.Do parents/guardians only have control over their children visiting a perfectly safe village, but not playing a dangerous sport or competing in a tournament that’s killed contestants?Ok, in the last case there’s a magical contract in the equation — and the ‘children’ in question would be legal adults in the wizarding world — but it still proves that there are far more dangerous activities students are exposed to at school than visiting a perfectly ordinary wizarding village.Hell — even then forest is more dangerous Hogsmeade, and students occasionally have detention there.I get that there’s only so much control a parent can have over their kid’s activities at school, but…why have a permission slip at all if it’s redundant in most cases?It’s not as though a trek to Hogsmeade is a field trip that takes students to the other side of the country. I just don’t see the logic of a permission slip being necessary. 🤷🏻‍♀️The legality of date-rape drugs.It confuses me that there are no licences on the sale of this stuff, considering the fact it could be used to facilitate rape.Think of when Romilda Vane tried to pass drugged chocolate on to Harry — what happens to Ron is played off for laughs, but it could very easily have ended quite badly. Who assigns blame when student A decides to rape student B, if student A got drugged food meant for student C?Plus, who trusts a substance like that in the hands of teenagers? I was a teenager a short while ago, and most of us aren’t very sensible — even when you don’t factor date-rape drugs into the equation.Eh…pretty much everything to do with the points system.Now, we had some kind of points system in place for houses at my school, but there was always some kind of logic to it.Winning a drama competition would necessitate X number of points for house XYZ — but points couldn’t suddenly be added at the end of term if a student happened to, for example, catch the individuals vandalising the school wall. House XYZ, if they had the most points, wouldn’t suddenly be dropped to second place if a student from house ABC did something noteworthy after the term had officially ended.No one’s denying the fact that Harry and co. are quite heroic, but I find utilising the points system as a means of rewarding them quite bizarre. Medals or trophies would make a lot more sense — and feel more rewarding than denying the House Cup to a house that actually won it fair and square.Confusing logic here.Secret Keepers.I’ll admit, the whole concept of Secret Keepers confuses the heck out of me.If James and Lily hadn’t been required to place their trust in a third party in order to ensure their safety, they’d probably be alive.Assigning someone a Secret Keeper just seems to be a recipe for disaster to me — even if you trust someone wholeheartedly, there are about a million things that could go wrong. For example, they could stab you in the back (like Peter Pettigrew did), or the bad guys could figure out a way to extract the necessary info from your Secret Keeper.I suppose the most sensible thing would be making your husband/wife a Secret Keeper along with yourself, but even that is fraught with problems (supposing one of you gets Imperiused, or has info extracted by DEs).Hiring useless teachers.I’ll admit, my school hired plenty of teachers who made an absolute cock-up of teaching us stuff from the syllabus.But they were usually very, very new to the business of teaching, and some even got replaced halfway through the semester.It boggles the mind how absolute morons like Lockhart actually get hired — especially when all the teachers know he’s a blithering idiot. Does the school board (or whatever it is that Lucius mentioned he was a part of)/whoever hires the teachers suddenly decide “ok, this year our kids don’t need to worry about DADA”.What about the students about to sit for their OWLs or NEWTs? Unfair on them to have a complete moron teach them f-all, right? Who takes responsibility if they fail?

At the end of 5th grade my son’s class had a class trip to a US Revolutionary War site in the next town over, Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Freehold New Jersey. As part of the tour provided by the Rangers, the Rangers had some fake toy weapons just like those from the time period and even a cannon that he would ask for volunteers to come up and help him demonstrate how the soldiers would stand in battle formation and even how they would operate the cannon, it takes a whole team of, I think, 5 or 6 men to fire the cannon. Anyhow, some of the boys being handed a toy flintlock rifle naturally began playing with them and even looking down the sights and pointing them at various things, no big deal, they were toys after all. When the trip was over and the classes back in school about 2 dozen of the boys were called down to the principal’s office without knowing why. It seems one of the teachers noticed the boys pointing the toy rifles at the teachers and other students. The 10 or so boys were being suspended for 2 weeks and were to wait for their parents to come pick them up. This would mean they would miss all end of year activities including class parties and graduation, this was a big year, they were going to middle school next year. The parents were quite upset when we were all gathered at the school and heard this. Until one parent finally asked who handed my son the rifle. I don’t remember signing a permission slip for my son to be handed a rifle. The principal’s head perked up real fast at that. He asked if the parent was a lawyer or something, cause they sure sounded like one. The next thing we knew all was being forgiven and the boys were allowed to return to school the next day and all end of year activities.
