Death Certificate Application: Fill & Download for Free

This happened in the in January. One of my distant relative passed away. So, then two weeks after his death, my cousin approached the Panchayat office with the necessary application to get the death certificate for further legal proceedings for settlement to the sons of the deceased.In the Panchayat office, he was asked to pay a Rs. 100 to the person who initiates the work as the bribe. He paid it. He came home. He took print out of the RTI application. He wrote the application addressing to the Tahsildar saying that he has paid Rs. 100 to the XXXX person and asking the list of the bribe amount to be paid to each official who in line are going to process his papers till he gets the death certificate. He went to the Tahsildar office. He filed the RTI application and came home.Two hours later, some six seven people came to our house with the death certificate and they requested my cousin to withdraw the RTI application before its formally registered for the process. They provided the death certificate. Though my cousin was adamant not to withdraw it finally our family convinced him to do so.The interesting part was i was surprised by the speed in which they received the death certificate and I experienced the power of it.

I have a bit of experience transacting while dead.I tried to order a computer online from a major company several years ago on a payment plan, so I filled out the paperwork and I got a message saying my credit was declined. My credit was fine, so I wrote a letter asking for an explanation. The reply was “applicant deceased.”How did I feel? I thought it was funny. In South Carolina they have a special wallet-sized birth certificate and I wondered if I could get a wallet-sized death certificate. If AARP can get older travelers special rates on hotel rooms, just think of how cheap the the dead traveler rate must be!It’s a lot more serious when a false public accusation of voter fraud is made.The important takeaway from this story is that a poll worker checking in the wrong person with a similar name is not uncommon, and this is the usual reason a dead voter appears to have voted. Since I’m a poll worker, and a bit of an election wonk, I know this stuff. People like the president who haven’t a clue how things work, should shut up.

I am no legal expert, but was your grandfather’s body recovered? It is my understanding that if there is a body, a death certificate is always issued, though there may need to be an inquest or an autopsy first.If there is no body, normally somebody, usually a family member, must apply to the courts to have the person in question declared to be “presumed dead” and then the court may give authority for a death certificate to be issued. If nobody ever made such an application, probably nothing would happen.It would be interesting to hear from somebody with some actual expertise.
