How much background information is appropriate to keep depends, among others, on whether there are other (recent) reviews published on the same (or related) topic. In my case, there was no review paper ever published on my topic, so I kept almost all content from my dissertation review.Next, there is the question of where to publish your review article. Depending on your discipline, it can happen that most reputable review journals publish only upon invitation. Nevertheless, some of them allow you to make suggestions, that is, you can inquire with the editor whether they are interested in your manuscript.
