Is life really grand after getting a seat in a medical college?

Okay, I will like to answer this question. (I am in 1st year right now, and so these points are mostly regarding life in this first year of MBBS).Medical collegs are not like the colleges they show in bollywood movies. Here, in our college, we have classes from 9 am to 4 pm, with a 30 minutes break in between.Bunking classes? Think again. 75% attendance in theory and 80% in practicals isn’t that easy.Proxies do work sometimes, but not always. If you get caught, you are officially doomed.Don’t mess with the professors. They can scold you literally for no reason at all. This isn’t your old school anymore.Item tests, part completition tests, surprise tests, semester ending exams and finally the first professional. It is a nexus of exams, I tell you.Thought dissection classses will be cool? Think again.Completing those histology diagrams are not as easy as they seem. When was the last time you coloured your diagrams anyway? Class 6?You thought you will be going to college with only a single notebook? You will have to use your old school bag again, yeah, and it will have atleast one bone, an atlas of histology, Cunningham and atleast one practical manual.Only Cunningham is allowed in the dissection hall. If a teacher finds yoi with the B.D. Chaurasia books, most probably you will have to bid them adios. These will be your 2 a.m. partners:So coming back to the question. Is life really grand after getting a medical seat.Dude, these are the training processes to carve a doctor out of you. So ofcourse life is grand after getting into MBBS.

What did former shy people understand about themself and social interaction that made them become confident? What did you learn about other people that makes you talk to them now?

This is a picture of me at 17 years old. That girl in the middle looking over at the camera. It was just around Spring time. I was in the school hall with all other graduating classes to prepare for ceremonies leading up to graduation day. This was another moment captured where I felt out of place and stuck because of my shyness. What that my plan? Letting my insecurity being in the way of me living and experience life? Not at all.But how was I going to move past this? This is a candid picture of me, feeling confused and stuck in time because I couldn’t even muster the courage to walk up to someone and say hi.I felt like time was running out and I was letting life pass me by.Until little by little, something shifted in me and how I approached social interactions. This is a picture of me at 20 (on the right)I was talking with, joking around and welcoming other hundreds of international students to our University and campus with fun activities and games. That shy person, I used to be associated with, wasn’t there anymore. Like I was the most social and confident person ever. Which was total new. What changed?I learned and mean REALLY learned this one mindset which helped me.And it’s this.NO ONE CARES ABOUT ME, NOR IS SOMEONE THINKING ABOUT ME.What.Yes that’s it. When I am walking into a room of new people, in a classroom, on the streets or at a party…People are so busy thinking and being worried about themselves, that I am just a dot in their universe. And so, more or less my shyness and worry melted away with this realization more and more.Every time I went to an event and let’s say I yelled out “hey, what’s going on!!!” and played some music. No one cared. Someone might have looked but then just went back to what they were doing.Just try it. Go say Hi to someone randomly and then walk away. The worst thing that happens is, they’ll think you are little weird. But then, they won’t remember you.And that’s a freeing message.Get started today, you will be glad you did.

How fast does time go by for you?

Time exists so that everything doesn’t happen at once.- Albert EinsteinThere were moments in my childhood where I had it pretty rough. For example, my father used to make me wait at least an hour between eating a meal and being allowed back in the swimming pool. This might sound like a reasonable request to you. You are obviously severely underestimating the fact that an hour to a seven-year-old girl – particularly one who loves being in the water - is like forever.I would excuse myself from the table, brush my teeth, change my t-shirt, pace around, read a book, pretend to play chess, throw myself on the bed and count the bricks in the ceiling over my head. How much longer now?51 minutes.Flash forward seven years. Chemistry class. 45 minutes of pure, hallucination inducing torture. I would stare at the clock over the blackboard. Draw my name in bold letters on the sides of my sneakers. Scribble a note and pass it to someone. Anyone? Raise my hand and ask permission to go to the bathroom. Saunter along the school hall, a paso de gallo - gallina (where you put the heel of your left foot right up against the toe of your right foot, then switch feet). Arrive at the lavatory. Rinse my face. Squash my nose against the mirror to see how I would look up really close. Find gum in my back pocket. Unwrap it. Put it in my mouth. Chew. Return to class.38 minutes to go.Now, I can’t seem to stop it. We have lunch with friends and calculate, incredulously, how long it’s been since we last saw each other. We promise our families we won’t let too much time go by without seeing them, and before we turn our backs on them at the airport, it’s been more than a year since our last trip. Early February, I was talking to a friend and asked how her baby was doing (feeling pretty proud I remembered she’d had one). “Dushka” she said, “he’s nine.”Who came up with this thing we call time? Do we travel through it, or vice-versa? Who determines how fast or how slow it should go? Is it constant, or does it play tricks on us? Does it vary per individual? Does it exist at all? Here is a picture of me:It was taken when I was around 3.My mother swears she took it only yesterday.
