What was your IIT-JEE preparation story?
JEE !The exam that every student aspires to crack from his childhood without even knowing his interests. But my story is a bit different and interesting !I knew from the start my interests lay in the Computer Science field and I wanted to do it from IIT after having listened to the stories about it.But unlike other kids , I started preparing for JEE only from 11th standard alongside my school .I chose the most difficult path for preparation or as it was considered then - I chose both school and coaching other than that integrated course which has become very popular.I studied hard everyday , waking up at 6.00 , going to school , coming home at 3.00 , going to coaching at 3.15 , then coming back at 9.00–10.00 and then studying on my own till 12.00–1.00 .I had a tiresome everyday but I enjoyed it a lot as every physics problem intrigued my curiosity , the maths problems tickled my mind and the chemistry was just interesting though I hated it till I got my JEE advanced result saved by chemistry .At the end I was solving 3–4 mains and advanced papers everyday and I was able to solve 3 hr papers in 1.5 hrs and still top our coaching institute .Finally I wrote the mains exam which went well and I scored 345 but due to the percentile system , finally after both the mains exam I could secure a rank of 259 which is very great but ya I still guess , I deserved more. Then came 27th May , the day of Advanced 2019.I paper came and the physics part scared me .The paper was very tough this time as I scrolled through questions. But my determination kept my confidence high and then I wrote the entire paper guessing some chemistry and using all the knowledge I had gained in the two years thinking if something was stored in the deep corner of the brain which could be used then.Because that was the moment for me . I lived it as though my whole life depended on it.Finally I secured a good rank of 144 and am currently in IIT Madras studying Computer Science Engineering.I feel the efforts now just impossible to repeat and I don't know how could I study 14hrs on some days. I guess my continuous eating while studying provided me that determination 😂 or maybe my playing games in between 😁.But whatever it was , it changed my fate as IIT is such a great place. In the first semester itself I found great friends. I work in a start up. Already started earning 😀. And I have also developed some games and apps 😅 .So overall JEE is not an exam . It's a one time journey and a memorable one !Enjoy it and you will crack the exam , and take it as an exam without any interest in studies and don't remember it again . It's such an amazing journey , I can't describe in words. The calling of friends at 1.00 am , the doubts group . The war on Whatsapp with questions and everything.Hope you enjoy my journey walking on my footsteps and living in my shoes for the incredible 5 mins.If you are interested for anything I mentioned above , you could email me at [email protected].
How does marriage change your life?
Thanks Soham Verma for A2A!Woke up at 2:00 am, eyes half opened, fever 104°, weakness was the only thing I could feel, shivering was the only movement in my body, as I gained some consciousness I realised that she was still sitting beside me, wiping my forehead with wet towel and caressing my head. She was craving Gulab Jamun at 10.30 pm in night, I got out of bed, searched the entire city, finally found a store almost shutting down, purchased hot Gulab Jamuns and fed her craving stomach. She had a holiday, she was bored, I had less work load, I skipped office and took her on a long romantic drive on the rainy morning.I was dejected, sad and depressed, she heated a little coconut oil, made me sit on floor and started massaging my head, slowly as my head relaxed she motivated me back.It was her birthday, it coincided with Diwali. No cake available, I brought raw materials, cooked all evening and prepared a delicious cake to make her happy.Marriage gives you a friend and companion for life!Just keep one thing in mind -“Marriage is not about dividing but sharing & caring!”
What are you afraid of and why?
Yesterday I went to Harrison Hospital to have my blood drawn. When I got there the lab was closed. So I found a comfortable chair across from the coffee shop and waited. The coffee shop is situated in a vast hallway with windows running from floor to ceiling. Through them I could see people arriving at the hospital. Many of them were old and infirm. They struggled with canes and walkers, crutches and wheelchairs. Some were obese with red swollen legs and hunched over backs. Others limped, and held on to loved ones just to make it to the doorway. I wondered if that was how I would get one day. However, despite my compassion, seeing them is not what most concerned me. What occupied my mind was why I was there in the first place. These blood tests would reveal the gravity of my condition.I learned about the downturn of my health at my last appointment three months ago. I could tell that something was wrong as soon as Dr. Gill entered the office. He was pale and gaunt. His eyes were sad. He appeared defeated.“Hey, Amon.”“Hi Larry,” Dr. Gill said with a fleeting smile. He sat at his computer staring at the screen as interminable seconds passed. Finally he looked up, but it was with grim determination. “Larry, your kidney function has dropped precipitously.”At first I couldn’t really grasp the words. Everything had been going so well since my legs abruptly folded beneath me five years ago. The ambulance brought me to the hospital and I was admitted to the ICU. It didn’t feel like I was dying, but people I didn’t know came by my bedside and prayed over me.The recovery from the illness was unexpected. Gradually I got stronger. But it took almost two years before I could walk much further than the mailbox. Incrementally, my numbers slowly improved. The doctor was enthusiastic; he told me I was healing. But now the course had suddenly changed.“What does that mean, Amon?”“It means you need to start thinking about a transplant,” he said. He straightened up and lifted his chin. “But I think we can wait until the next appointment before I move you on to the transplant team.”As I stumbled out of the office, Dr. Gill stopped typing and looked up. “Don’t let it get you down.”Don’t let it get me down? All I could think of was being wheeled into the operating room. I pictured myself lying unconscious on the table while they sliced into me. I visualized them lifting a cadaver’s kidney with bloody gloved hands, preparing to put it into my body. The thought of it leeched into me; it invaded my being. Yet I was afraid to let go of the fear for even a minute. Because I knew that if I did, it would only return. There was no way I could remain under this foreboding shroud of anxiety. It colored my entire life. It felt like even if I got through this and lived, that I would never smile again. But the reason I’m telling you this isn’t to talk about my fear, because I’ve learned to control it. I have gone from a state of crippling emotional paralysis to being able to go on with life while ignoring the potential for disaster. Although how I arrived at this point came about in a most unusual way.About a week after the doctor’s visit, I stopped by a nondescript feed and grain store to buy some outdoor bird seed. I hadn’t been there before, but something inexplicable drew me in. As I wandered down the aisles an odd stench drifted out of a doorway.Entering the room I found cages filled with guinea pigs, hamsters and mice. The cages were stacked on top of each other and the animals within them were unobtrusively moving about. Against a far wall, I saw a glass enclosure containing artificial turf and a bark-stripped limb of a tree. In it was an enormous boa constrictor, sound asleep. And in the cage too was a tiny mouse, obviously there as food for the snake. What struck me though was that the mouse wasn't huddled in the corner trembling, as I imagined I would be. Rather, it was perched on the edge of the boa constrictor's water bowl, cleaning itself as though it didn't have a care in the world. Certain death was sleeping a body length away, yet this mouse was going on with its life.I said to myself, this is what it’s like for us. Danger and potential disaster is lurking beside us at all times. Yet at our best, and perhaps most natural state, we can ignore the threats that surround us and live in the present rather than the future or past.I realized more than ever that whether we’re worried about an airplane flight or a car ride, the safety of our children, the impending results of a blood test, or the ultimate outcome of our life, we are capable of rising above the unknown and finding peace in the moment.I came to see that all my worrying about things that were out of my control was senseless. The three months would pass and I would get the test results. Of course I was hoping for the best. But if the numbers did go down, I knew I would find a way get through it. And I would not do so by pacing the floor and wringing my hands for the next ninety days.I find it strange and wonderful that I should gain such knowledge from a mouse.
