Bcom with a CA program is an integrated course that consists of 3-4 hours of Bcom classes in the morning (classes start from 6:30 in the morning and end at 11) followed by 5-6 hours of CA coaching (starts from 12 at noon and lasts till 5:30 in the evening). Christ University has a strict 85% minimum attendance rule which includes both Bcom and CS classes. These are simple things which we CA students are doing wrong overall and if we could improve a little , we can beat any IIM-A guy.We don’t pay heed to general things which are going all around us. I accept the fact that we need not to be a generalist ,because we are subject specialist. However I think we should atleast know about our country’s story, dream of our freedom fighters about India, our nations great personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, Nehru ji, Indira Gandhi , Bhagat Singh Azad and many such personalities.We should atleast know our relations with superpower country and our neighbours. We should atleast know how our constitution was formed. Some CA students don’t even know how many states are there in our country’s north -east part. Some don’t even the names of all states and their location on India’s map.The lack of this kind of awareness becomes a hindrance to socialise with society when he/she qualifies the exam and go for a job in other part of India.We have such a vast syllabus that we don’t even think to read any other self -help book, any good literature or any book . This creates a gap in our training and training of an MBA . We feel isolated in corporate world when we were not able to make friends as fast as a MBA or any technical graduate do. And the most important thing we are not able to handle the pressure of corporate world because of lack of emotional intelligence.We don’t have anything related to presentation part in our whole CA program. When we enter in corporate ,there may be the situation that in the very first month you may be required to present your report in front of other departments head or your super reporting manager. The same situation I faced in first year of my job. I prepared a report on circle -wise revenue decrease and possible reasons behind it. The report included such a detailed analysis of all the parameters and included charts ,graphs etc. But when I got to know that I have to present it before the SBU’s CFO and all other dignatories which have just arrived from our branches in different parts of world, it was like a bolt from the blue for me. In such a situation , you may easily find a guy in your office who is jealous of you and who will use your report to grind his own mill.Many CA students are good players in their school time. But as they enter in this course they leave their hobby and then even after becoming CA , they don’t start again. This thing hurts when in corporate we go to office organised weekend trips and other guys beat CA team easily.We lack entrepreneurship abilities. I am not saying that we can’t be good entrepreneur . Many CAs started their own enterprise and running successfully, but the succes rate overall is very low. When we pass the finals we don’t have courage to start a business of our own. Now-a-days a tendency is that newly qualified CAs hardly think to start a practice. So we should try to inculcate in ourselves , managerial and entreprenuership abilities.Let me be very clear in this point- We can’t sell ourselves. Yes we have unbeatable knowledge in our field ,but because of the reasons mentioned above ,we are not able to convince the interviewer that we are the best in the market.We don’t try to solve the things like an MBA do. I know I may be targeted by some CA students after this answer in comment section to be biased towards MBAs. But I have seen this thing in my articleship and my little experience of industry. Instead of solving the matter , we apply unnecessary knowledge at the first place , and even complicate the things. If you dont believe in this point then just do one thing in your articleship- whenever a client asks to help him in a real life business problem , then give it a try. You will find that you are even complicating the things for him. This is because of our training itself. We are told to apply our knowledge but we are not trained to solve corporate problems .
