This happened a few decades ago.One of my niece wanted to marry a boy who was not from our caste.Her parents were dead-set against this marriage.Her brother-in-law (elder sister’s husband) used to frequently visit us.“See, these old people are very orthodox. They won’t marry her to the boy she loves. So I will help her to marry the boy she loves. I will give full support to her,” he would say.Both, my husband and I, were very happy with his broad-mindedness.He used to visit us every three to four days, and give us the updates about the wedding plans.He used to strongly criticize the mentality of her parents for not agreeing to the marriage.After a few days, he suddenly stopped visiting us.We both were confused.“What might have happened? Have the girl’s parents threatened that they would commit suicide? Did he stop visiting us due to that?” we wondered.There was no telephone to communicate in those days.After waiting for 10–15 days, we went to his house to find out the reason.“How are the wedding preparations going on?” my husband asked“I am withdrawing myself from all these preparations,” he said with a dejection in his voice.“Why? What happened? Are the parents too rigid? Are they threatening you?”“No, they agreed to the marriage,” he said angrily.“They agreed? Then why is he angry? He was the person who was looking forward to this marriage!” we wondered.“You see, by agreeing to this marriage, they lost their respect in our community, and I lost the opportunity of gaining a good name by doing a social reform. No, this is not proper on their part. They should have stuck to their original decision.”So all he wanted was fame! Height of hypocrisy!

Ever since camera mobiles are in existence, well..my first mobile was a silver coloured Motorola that used to give out hello motto sound everytime, I used to click pictures of literally anything. The storage capacity and clarity was nowhere near to what today's smartphone has, but hey…I had a camera mobile!The moment where I felt that I should have had a video of it was on 7th April 2008 when my now in-laws and my ‘Mister’ had visited us for Ugadhi-telugu new year.There was hardly a month for our wedding and so the elders were discussing about so many stuffs. All the time this guy was sitting silently on a chair in one corner without even lifting his head up, he lifted his head once and saw me, I raised my eyebrows in a questioning way as he looked nervous. He msged me to meet him outside. He walked out after few minutes and then I went out too. He got in to the car and and asked me to get in. I got in and we both sat there talking about the wedding preparations. He was holding my palms when talking and when I was chattering away as if there is no tomorrow he had silently slipped a ring in to my left hand ring finger. I was taken aback, as I had always said that until getting married I won't accept any gifts from him, he planned to surprise gift me.(Now, when I ask him to get me something he will remind me as to what kind of attitude I had back then…my bad.. shouldn't have shown that much attitude..but..hey.. I was a teenager back then..quite a reckless one!)How I wish that this was captured in a video form by someone, if not someone at least by him. Because, it was so it-happened-just-like-that moment. This guy who is too shy, who doesn't likes PDAs, who doesn't say I Love You as he finds it too dramatic and cinematic, who expresses his love in the form of anger, had slipped in a ring on my finger out of nowhere. As we didn't have an engagement ceremony, that was a kind of an engagement ceremony for me, I got engaged in a Bolero to a bureau of OCD, if only had I known about his OCD back then…ah….(tongue out) ;-pThank you for the question. :-)

He’s dead.But there can be multiple reasons:He could have been meeting Rickard at the intersection. There is a road from Riverrun to the Eyrie (the Eastern Road or the River Road, I believe). Perhaps, with just a small amount of riders, it wouldn’t have taken all that long.Perhaps he wasn't going. For whatever reason.Who knows? Brandon died, Ned married Cat a few months later and they lived happily ever after until Jon Arryn died.EDIT: And, as you so eloquently decided to point out, Brandon died.EDIT TWO:Garrett Stock is infinitely smarter than I am, the following is his comment. All due credit to you good sir:I am more tempted to say that Ned just didn’t need to go, or perhaps that when “they decided on a wedding date,” Ned was only planning to show up later in the celebrations.By the time Ned was still in the Eyrie, the wedding date had JUST been announced. This led to the duel between Littlefinger and Brandon. Then a week passed. Brandon leaves somewhere around this time.He goes to meet his father, he hears of his sister’s kidnapping. He makes for the Red Keep.By the time Brandon was at the Keep and Rickard began to follow him, we are talking about a 2–5 week period.By the time Rickard arrived it could have been several months.Ned probably heard that the wedding preparations were finally under way. Then he heard Brandon nearly killed Littlefinger. Then he heard nothing.The next piece of news he would have heard would be “Hey, you’ve inherited Winterfell.”Both his father, in good health, and his brother, in the prime of his life and about to wed. He probably didn’t consider himself close to his family anymore, too busy trying to grow up in a different kingdom and form his own “niche” there when he was told to pack up and rally his banners
