PDF Editor FAQ

What 'fan theories' have blown your mind with their devastating logic?

Some good ones already listed, I'll compile ones not already stated.I don't generally buy into theories where everything we see in a storytelling corpus is a deliberate deception, unless the creator has stated as such or there is some sort reality/perception altering mechanic in the plot. So you won't be getting any 'it was one character's dream' / hallucination / delusion / fantasy / afterlife' pitches here, nor any theories where what is presented is a biased secondary source or propaganga.Earlier drafts don't count, sorry Darth Jar Jar.I'll also avoid still-running works like speculating on future installments of Star Wars and GoT / aSoIaF, because we will get more answers. <edit: As of The Last Jedi, Star Wars doesn't seem to be going with a planned arc, so Star Wars theories are back in.>The Pixar Circular Time Theory: All the Pixar films are in the same universe. They start with The Good Dinosaur, then Brave, then through the contemporary era (of The Incredibles, the Toy Storys, Ratatouille, and the Nemos), and the to the future of Cars, Wall-E, A Bug's Life and finally Monster's Inc. The doors in MI are doors to the past. The witch in Brave is Boo from MI as an old woman! The 'Imaginary Friend elephant-bunny' in Inside Out was the garbled memory of childhood interactions with an MI employee (after they realised that laughter is stronger than fear). The primary driver of this theory is John Negroni, who has published a book referencing all the films in support of the theory, and updates it for every new Pixar film. Look him up, he deserves credit.James Bond is a Time Lord! (Possibly even Rassilon!)Another Dr Who crossover one: The Andromedans from Blake's Seven are Daleks that abandoned their Travel Machines. This idea started off with Terry Nation wanting to use Daleks in B7, then went to the realm of fanon, but has been run with by B7 and Doctor Who authors who have established that they indeed are the same universe (at least in novels and audioplays)!Blake's Seven and Star Trek are different representations of the same universe: Star Trek is soft propaganda backing the right-wing galactic government that unfailingly presents the Federation in the best possible light. Conversely, Blake's Seven is the voice of leftist dissidents (possibly supporters of the 'real' Blake). Blake's Seven looks 'crappier' because the dissidents don't have much money to make or present their version of history / current events.<Yes, they break my propaganda rule, but it's double propaganda, so it's different>Blake's Seven and Star Trek are different representations of the same universe, version 2: Blake's Seven is the world of Star Trek some centuries later. The idealism and hope of Star Trek slowly died. The political class of the Federation became greedy, lustful for power, and willing to use fear as a political tool. The Federation becomes authoritarian. Aliens are largely eradicated. The human population is kept in check by secret police, propaganda, and brainwashing drugs. Soon they gain contol of the historical record itself. But the corruption had a stagnating effect, because many, many scientists and engineers were among the politically undesirable. So the galaxy forgets how to make replicators and teleports, and then forgets they ever had them.Whoopi Goldberg’s character in Ghost is the ancestor of Guinan from Star Trek.Vyvvyan Barsted from The Young Ones is a Weasley! This one has the brilliance of having in-story logic that fits but has no possibility of being Rowling's editorial intent.More Harry Potter: Mary Poppins exists in the Harry Potter universe. Poppins may have dropped out of magical society. She may have attended the Australian eqivalent of Hogwarts (book-Poppins and film-Poppins are quite different). Also Lionel Richie is a wizard and 'Dancing on the Ceiling' was not special effects!Dudley Dursley marries Cho Chang! The two Quentin Tarantino universes: Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Natural Born Killers, Pulp Fiction, Ingorius Barsterds, Django Unchained and Hateful Eight are the 'main universe'. Kill Bill is fiction within; it's a reinvigorated version of Fox Force Five, Mia Wallace's failed pilot, as discussed in Pulp Fiction. So are the From Dusk 'Til Dawn films, Death Proof, Planet Terror, the Machete movies and the Spy Kids movies(!). Four Rooms fits in somewhere too. Jackie Brown is the only one that's an orphan (Tarantino adapted a book).…And the briefcase contained Marcellus's soul.Blade Runner is in the same world as Alien (and by extension Predator). The Aliens vs Predator beat 'em up game from the 1990s links to the world of Terminator. The male human character is Dutch Schaffer, (Schwarzenegger's role in Predator), who had been given cybernetic enhancements by Cyberdyne. He is effectively the prototype Terminator! This was going to get the cinema treatment too (with James Cameron's involvement) IF Schwarzenegger didn't win that California recall election.V For Vendetta is Rorschach from Watchmen. Doc Manhattan didn't kill him, but moved him from Antarctica to Britain and a year or two further into the future. Meanwhile, Rorschach's diary is published, and so Veidt's plan does not permanently prevent nuclear war. This war is the same war that wrecked the world of V. Roarschach fights against Norsefire, gets caught and sent to Larkhill for experimentation, but survives as V!Version 1.2: Same as above, but with Adrian Veidt instead. It makes more sense because V and Veidt are cultured speakers and Roarschach isn't, and Veidt starts with a V and has five letters. Can combine quite nicely with…A completly different V For Vendetta identity theory, which also explains the title: V is not from a minority, and he was not originally a left-wing activist. Before being sent to Larkhill and his transformation into vigilante, V originally worked for Norsefire. That's why he has a working replica of Fate in his hideout, and why he's adamant his face not be known. The fear about the face thing is not symbolic. If his past connection to Norsefire was known, his revolution could be discredited as 'just' a vendetta. It would really harm the movement if someone saw his face and recognised him as 'that smart-alec computer engineer who we had sent to Camp'!Captain America could lift Thor's hammer (it looked like it wobbled to me) but was too modest to do it just to show off in front of the other Avengers. <Edit: This one is 100% confirmed!>The XXX movies are set in the Marvel Cinematuc Universe. Samuel L. Jackson's head of a spy agency with an eyepatch is Nick Fury. Maybe Vin Diesel becomes Groot somehow? In their original comic run, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were implied to have been created by the same accident that gave us Daredevil.TMNT-Dr Who: Kraang is a Dalek.Marvel Universe Grand Unifying Theory: All magic, superpowers, psychic powers, mutants, and superhero vehicles and gadgets are consequent of infinity gem juice. This is for both movies and comics:James Perkins's answer to Do all super powers ultimately derive from the Infinity Stones? The creatures in the Jurassic Park movies aren't properly dinosaurs but rather completely new dinosaur-like chimeras that were frankensteined together using DNA from presently-existing animals. The real purpose of inviting the experts to the island was to test the Park's cover story about retrieving DNA from amber. The cover story, which couldn't work but seemed plausible, was needed to throw competitors off the scent because the Park didn't think they could patent their work. This actually helps explain why Jurassic Park doesn't match up to what we now know dinosaurs to look like (many or even most had feathers) - the Park was fabricating them based on the 1980s-1990s understanding of dinosaurs, which is now obsolete. Their fraud becomes more obvious with time.Emmet Brown's mind-reading machine in Back To The Future works! It was a bit buggy, or maybe Doc misinterpreted the data he was receiving, but it seems to function on a sound scientific principle.Dragon Ball: Blanche/Launch is a Saiyan! - When she sneezes or gets angry, her hair turns blonde and her eyes turn green. Sneezing or anger are triggers for her (minor) Super-Saiyan transformation. As Blanche and everyone she knows is ignorant of her alien ancestry, the transformation manifests as a split personality! Also from Dragon Ball: Mr Satan's charlatanry is a superpower!… and Regular Show is in the Dragon Ball universe!More Dragonball: Dragon Ball Super ignores the Peaceful World sequence as well as Dragon Ball GT. DBS is not quite the DBZ world we know, as evidenced by the different accounts of Bardock, Paragus, Broly, Goku’s earliest years, and the general nuances of Saiyan Society. I’ll work this into something better in the future, possibly involving Episode of Bardock as a fork.Princess Snake is a former Goddess Of Destruction, possibly from one of the erased unvierses 13-18.<Looking through again for a cleanup I see I don't like one genre of theory but seem to love ones based on shared universes!><another edit: Saved By The Bell is a dream… I know it breaks my rule, but the show recycles cast from an earlier show, Good Morning, Miss Bliss. But key details of Zac's life change. GMMB is reality, SBTB is a dream.><yet another edit: The Darth's & Droids capstone reality hypothesis - The 'original' versions of The Princess Bride, Twilight, Batman (a mix of Adam West and Nolan eras) Jurassic Park (although the dinos were robots rather than cloned), and of course Star Wars were created by a group of seven table-top role-players in Australia. What we think of as being reality is just one in the celebrity-paradox parallel worlds down the bunnyhole that begins in the commentary for Episode 50, and which gets a level deeper every 50 episodes. We only exist as a by-product of versions of The Comic Irregulars playing a game and then introducing its story as pop-culture sideways in time! Eventually, we will see a screen-cap comic from a movie that doesn't exist… because it's a game played by our version of the Irregulars. They will finish the campaigns… and then make pop culture to the next world over… and play another game! The work put into the fake mini-worlds is elaborate too, they have fake archives, fake cast page, and a fake FAQ!><Another one, in the same vein as the utterly brilliant LOTR-Snow White theory: Event Horizon (the movie) and Fading Suns (multi-media, but an RPG-setting mostly) are historical prequels for the universe of Warhammer 40k!>I've since found that there's a 40k Grand Unifying Hypothesis linking the above and also Terminator, The Matrix, Hellraiser, Starcraft, Doom, Dune, Alien, Nolan's Batman trilogy (Joker is a psyker), Drag Me To Hell, 2001, 300, the Friday The 13th series, and Starship Troopers!40k-Marvel, version 1: Lots of supporting points, but The Emperor is Doctor Doom.40k-Marvel, version 2: The same as above, but with Professor X instead.40k-Gurren Lagaan: The Warp and Waargh power are related to Spiral Energy. In fact, Gurren Lagaan may have been originally an Orky tale, later retold with a human cast.40k-Evangelion: The Evas inspired the Titans<The Simpsons: I love The Simpsons, but with the show's negative continuity most theories are meaningless. Notwithstanding, in Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in "The Curse of the Flying Hellfish", we have the Hellfish Bonanza, stolen art from WWII kept in a tontine by nine Springfieldians. Abe and Monty we know, as well as the sons of Wiggum, Gumble, and Skinner (logically the father of the 'Martin Sheen' one and not the Harry Shearer one). The other four were Ox, Etch, Griff, and Asa Phelps. Abe gets a letter, reading that Asa had died. So Monty sends assassins after Abe so he can get the Bonanza!Ox died of a hernia carrying the crate out of the castle. Five more were kiled in “The Great Veterans' Day Float Disaster of '79” (we can infer this means Wiggum, Gumble, Skinner, Etch, and Griff)So, was it Burns's doing? Did Burns kill the fathers of Clancy and Barney?><Another one from The Simpsons: A nuclear war is begins in the background of Homer to the Max. Carl is reading a newspaper with the headline “IT'S WAR!” and picturing a mushroon cloud. Later, Bill Clinton tells Marge “Aw shoot, Quebec's got the bomb!”><And regarding the negative continuity of The Simpsons: Springfield is a project of the Dark City aliens. That's why the geography and architecture keeps changing, and explains the retcons, and the erratic technology levels.><Another good Simpsons one, more of a Easter Egg than a theory, but all of the snippets from the first McBain movie can be recut into a proper mini-movie: McBain (The Full Movie, High Quality)They appear in Simpsons episodes from 1990 to 1993.><I've got another couple of shared universes: The stories of Lovecraft are the present-day of the worlds of Robert E Howard.Similarly, the 'present-day' of Tolkien's extensively explored Arda [The Hobbit, LOTR, Children of Hurin and much, much more] is the setting of C. S. Lewis's Cosmic Trilogy and Narnia.A Hominid evolutionary hypothesis in Middle Earth: In The Middle Earth sagas, Hobbits are the most modern beings. They are rich because they have no caste system and no standing army. When they do fight, they fight very fiercely because of the freedom-force multiplier. The Shires are the only democratic state in Middle Earth! In canon, Aragorn and his successors instituted an apartheit against the Hobbits, and the Shires became isolated and the Hobbits went extinct (yes really, Aragorn turns out to be a total prick!)The fan theory is that Tolkien's 'Men' are not the ancestors of contemporary humans - the Hobbits are!<I can't believe there's no theories posted for The Matrix. It's one of those works where the philisophical intent is so uncertain that an opinion could be craziness for one observer, a hidden message for another, and for yet another a not-hidden message that was the whole 'point' of the story. So… #1: The 'human-battery' thing doesn't make economic sense with physics as we know it. But what if their power came from human souls?#2: The machines were not evil, and were actually being far kinder to humanity than humanity deserved. The Machines just wanted to live in peace in Iraq. But the machine society was wealthy and humans became jealous and fearful, and three times started genocidal wars to try to wipe the machines out. Instead of deciding the humans had been given enough chances and exterminating them (which was well within their abilities), the robots took the humans prisoner (the way lawful, civilized beings do) and gave them a robot-free VR utopia to enjoy. We tried to annihilate them, and in return they give us the closest thing to a paradise that they could manage.>Mr Bean is canonically an alien, whilst Blackadder: Back And Forth suggests he is a Blackadder. So, Bean is a child of both Blackadder and Baldrick blood. He was kidnapped by / adopted by / warded to an alien family on another planet. In middle-age, he returns to try to fit in with his fellow Earthlings!Gordon Brittas (The Brittas Empire) is an identical ancestor of Arnold Rimmer (Red Dwarf)Many of the games made by Id are in the same universe (such as the Commander Keen series, Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein, and Doom). The protagonists of Wolfenstein, Keen, and Doom, are all members of the same family at different periods if history. Wolfenstein is a Blazkowicz in WWII, Billy is his genius grandson in the 1990s, and Doom features Billy's descendant in the 22nd Century. - Thinking a bit further, the first Keen game was on Mars, and the first Doom game was on Phobos, the moon of Mars. So, did Keen's defeat of the Vorticons set off a chain of events that caused Hell Portals to open on Mars's moons around 120 years later?Another good video game shared universe: Saints Row becomes Red Faction becomes FreeSpace.Just heard another one: Titanic is an immediate prequel to Inception.Star Wars theory dumps:Jar Jar Binks is a homeless, brain-damaged, war hero, who liberated his race from apartheit, and we hate him because we're arseholes.Midichlorians indicate the force, they don't make it. Correlation is not causation. Palpatine was just manipulating Anakin's emotions with his tale of Darth Plagueis. Anakin's parentage is no-one in particular because Shmi was a prostitute.Alternatively, all of the above, but Watto is Anakin's biological father! The converse: Anakin was immaculately conceived via Darth Plagueis, Palpatine was talking 100% truthfully. In fact, Palpatine Force-lifedrained Padme to save Anakin with the same power. The medidroid says Padme was 'giving up on life', but did Portman's performance really reflect that? Obviously, the droid wasn't equipped to detect a Force-power only one person knows about. The Last Jedi seems to extinguish the cottage industry of Rey's ancestry theories. But it throws up another one. Rey's father is the untrustworthy Codebreaker! <Junked>Meanwhile, Finn might be a Force Legacy. Since there's a Kenobi interquel coming in 2021 (they're already shooting), could Finn be Obi-Wan's grandson?Chirrut and Baze were among the last of the (Guardians / Disciples of the) Whills, which was the precursor organisation to the Jedi. The Jedi took their name from the Whill Temple on the planet Jedhaa. The 'Ren' order (recently led by Lord Snoke) were the precursors of the Sith. - In Lucas's original drafts, the Whills were actually the midichlorians themselves, and they were conscious beings. [George Lucas' Ideas For His Own Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Aren't As Wild As They First Seem] Love it or hate it, it's interesting to see how a concept from the earliest Star Wars drafts eventually emerged in The Phantom Menace and then, after Lucas sold the IP to Disney, in Rogue One.The visiual dictionary for The Last Jedi suggests that the Jedi were founded by a member of Snoke's race called 'the Prime Jedi'. Maybe it is Snoke (making him well over 25,000 years old). <Junked, probably, he’s a Frankenstein>.Han's luckiness is a low-level, unconscious Force power. - Major expansion after seeing Solo Story: Qi'ra was pregnant with Han's baby when they were separated. Darth Maul sensed the Force in the child, and is raising it as his Apprentice, as well as using it as leverage over Qi'ra. Darth Maul still dies in Rebels, child escapes. Child has a child, which gets dumped on Jakku. Therefore, Rey is Han's grand-daughter! <not necessary, effectively junked>.Palpatine was building Death Stars to fight the Yuzhan Vong.Snoke is refugee from the Vuuzhan Vong galaxy (where Force Users are despised and persecuted).Han is not Kylo Ren's biological father. Kylo's father is Jabba!Further exploring the Whills theory, the midichlorians/Whills are hybrid mitochondria and chloroplasts, and are conscious. What if, horrible though they are, the Yuuzhan Vong were fundamentally correct? They despise the Force, try to cut it completely from their beings, and persecute users. Jedi have lonely lives, and will forsake earthly pleasures. Their doctrine of taking minimal action can mean the individual Jedi may be traumatised or haunted by what they did and what they didn't do. The Sith are completely enslaved to their thirsts for power and revenge. The Force is not a path to mental well-being. Long ago, the YV realised this, because a Force User is literally infected with a conscious bacteria!Explaining the apparent 'hiding Luke on Tatooine' plothole: Skywalker is a bastard name on Tatooine, like how 'Snow' and other regional bastard names in Westeros. Hiding him with The Larses was still risky though. The Hitch Hiker's Guide From The Galaxy Far Far Away: Star Wars is 'A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away'. It features Humans, implicity the ancestors of Earthlings. This is also shown to happen at the end of The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe. Earthlings think they are descended from Australopithecines, but are actually descended from the Golgafrimchams, who crash-landed there two million years ago, and the early indigenous homonids become extinct. At some point a long long time ago, Humans left that galaxy, far, far away, and found new homes throughout the universe. One planet that was colonised was Golgafrimch, in our own Milky Way. The Golgafrimchams are how Humans from Star Wars come to Earth. And now I've got the perfect name… James Perkins's answer to In Star Wars, why do most characters look human however Earth is never mentioned?<End dump>We've already got The Rock is a (Connery) Bond movie... but how about Armageddon being a sequel to The Rock?"Armageddon" and "The Rock" are set inside the same universe. | MovieChatThe show is cancelled and a struggle over the IP is looming, but I'll toss it in because it's fun. The new Roseanne episodes are different because this is the 'real' world, which we never saw before. The 'lottery' season is a book Roseanne wrote whilst grieving Dan. But the new Roseanne reveals that the entirety of the old show was itself a book (and definitely not the same one). New Roseanne wrote a book about herself (eventually) writing a book. If Roseanne Barr loses the IP, ABC are hoping to make a Darlene-centred spinoff with all the rest of the cast. Explaining the discrepancies (Roseanne minus Roseanne) may mean the bunnyhole grows even deeper…Seinfeld: Kramer the Vietnam veteran: Kramer was mentally scarred in Vietnam, which is why he's paranoid about government, has an acute sense of justice, lives in a rent-controlled apartment, has no job, and probably uses drugs. The tragedy of George's brother: George's brother is only mentioned a very small number of times. The theory is, the brother killed himself because George got his fiance Pauline pregnant. The Constanzas blame George, which is why they're so horrible to him and also why they set their table for four!South Park: Over the years we've learned quite a bit about the phenomenology of this world, with many planes of reality and alien beings. In particular, we have learned a great deal about the nature of the oft-killed Kenny. He is immortal due to his mother going to a Cthulu cultist party when she was pregnant with him. Kenny re-spawns, and his many deaths are usually forgotten. But what if this had wider consequences for South Park? The hypothesis is that Kenny's re-spawns warp reality and cause the passage of time to slow down in the town and justify the use of tropes like 'Status Quo Is God' and 'Comic Book Time'. The boys have only aged two years in twenty. But outside South Park, time passes much like in the real world.Randy's 'The Catholic Boat' nightmare vision: This happened because Randy was molested by a priest as a child…!SWAThunder Kats: SWAT Kats is set on a colony world millions of years of in the future. Humans used up the Earth, and so colonised a new world, Earth Two. But the humans went extinct, and a feline society emerged. This is the world of the SWAT Kats. But that world got used up too, and so they established a Third Earth. The world of the Thunder- Thunder- Thunder- THUNDER-CATS! *Dyununow!* *Dyunununow-dyun-un-ow!*The Oceanic Airlines Shared Universe: Originally appearing in the movie Executive Decision, it goes on to be a part of Alias, Lost, Fringe, JAG, Flash Forward, X-Files, and Chuck. There’s a lot of shared themes and creative personnel behind all thise shows too.<update June 2020>Alright, so the end of the Star Wars sequel trilogy was a little bit underwheming. But here's a few rationalisations:Rey wasn't a Mary Sue, she was a Manchurian Candidate - Her father, who was Palpatine’s natural and Force-capable son, trained Rey as best he could with The Force. But when she was seven, a bounty-hunter caught their trail and “Billy” hid all of Rey’s dangerous knowledge, like The Force, her family history and Galactic politics deep in her mind. When she's around 20, THE FORCE AWAKENS.Palpatine traveled to Exegol direct from Endor using the Force Teleport power. The Sequel Trilogy is Nelvana Canon. They're not ‘proper’ sequels. During the New Republic, there's a popular video game series featuring Imperial loyaliats abd historical figures in minor roles. It spins off into a trilogy of movies. The Sequel Trilogy is the movies of the Star Wars version of Red Faction. All of Star Wars is Ewok Oral History. Wicket’s oral history! The stuff that happened on Endor is pretty accurate, but it gets sketchier the further we go away in space or time. And wicket might have made out peopke to be more tgan ther really were. The OT is pretty reliable because the Ewoks met all the Rebel heroes and had Imperial prisoners to interrogate too, and by extension had a bit of a picture of the PT too, with a bit more liberties taken. Same with Rogue One and Solo. The Ewoks get a few glimpses of the Galaxy in the 34 years between ROTJ and Rise of Skywalker. They have the Towaris, and the Marauders, and various visitors to the Death Star wreckage. And then a Star Destroyer is seen getting wrecked in Endor’s skies. So for the Sequel Trilogy, Wicket was mostly making stuff up whole cloth to please his nagging Grandchildren. The only truly canon parts of Star Wars are Return Of The Jedi, Caravan Of Courage, Battle For Endor, and a little bit of Rise Of Skywalker. The rest could just be Ewok folktales.Speaking of Cindel Towari… Is she Rey’s mother?

The best thing about this tool is that it solves a basic problem with the PDFs we receive: editing them. It is also very easy to use, saves a lot of time and has the possibility of adding a digital signature to each document.
