The really interesting part of the question is why should all animals descend from a single unicellular life form. That, in turn, raises interesting questions about how we came into being.But lets answer the main question first.Biologists call the family of animals, metazoa. They analyze their genes for relationships two different ways:Some genes exist in nearly all animals but the nucleotide sequence differs between between them. Notice that fungi are distantly related to animals.Why should all animals come from a single life form?It seems so obvious that animals are related to each other that we never question it. But there is no reason why this should be so. But that’s wrong. Most branches of the tree of life remain simple.The first metazoa must have had some gene or attribute that no other living thing had. It might have been many genes. One study suggests that there may have been more than 1100 such genes.[8] Those genes allowed them to evolve into us.
