Peter Flom ‘s answer provides some solid explanations for why voters might be more motivated to participate in this year’s election.One thing that I don’t think has been captured in other answers, however, is that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first time (at least in recent memory) where voting was not concentrated on a single day. In all but 5 states, early voting (whether it’s in-person voting, all-mail voting, or some form of no-excuse absentee ballot with mail-in or dropoff) has been available[1] . In some states, for over a month.This fact alone may have unlocked several significant, and previously negleted voter segments:Voters who have been unable to cast a vote on election day due to logistical reasons, and were unable to secure an absentee ballot beforehand to vote by mailVoters who may not have cared enough about voting to bother potentially standing in line (in some cases, for hours)[2] or enduring other delays, but the convenience and availability of early voting is sufficient to get them to go to the pollsIt is not yet clear what the impact will be on election outcomes (it’s entirely possible that either or both of these groups skew more towards one party or voting pattern than the other, or that they’re roughly split between both parties). But what is more clear is that making voting easier seems to encourage people to participate in it. Michael Jones (InspiringPhilosophy) terrible. My biggest issue with these kinds of “responses” is that they fail to address the fact that the God of the bible, for the most part, is not hidden. Most of the narrative material in the bible depicts a God who has no qualms about privately and publicly revealing himself on a regular basis.So all of these explanations for why God might choose to hide himself simply do not apply to the biblical period. If God over divine revelation robs people of their free will and “forces belief/forces propositional knowledge” (a quite silly notion, IMO), that would have to apply to the public miracles described in the bible.So we are expected to believe that throughout the Bronze Age and the Iron Age and into Antiquity, God was super active in human affairs, in an overt way, making it nearly impossible for certain people (in a certain geographical region) to doubt his existence. But then (after the “Apostolic Age,” I suppose), God and his angels became “hidden”. And that seems to be the default state of affairs we experience now.Divine Hiddenness establishes a low prior probability that gods exist. Strong evidence would be required to increase the posterior probability of gods or anything supernatural. So theists can argue that such evidence is adequate to warrant belief. But it’s much more difficult for theists to establish a prior probability for the supernatural - since methodological naturalism seems to adequately explain everything we observe.If the world we lived in were more like the fantastical world depicted in the bible (or in the movie Constantine or The Exorcist) - there would be a high prior probability that gods and demons exerted a strong influence in human affairs. Atheism would be an untenable position that would be super easy to disprove. It would simply be irrational.I find it extremely odd that Michael Jones (InspiringPhilosophy) asserts that he might (hypothetically) “worship Zeus out of fear” if he found out that Zeus actually existed. This is coming from a guy who presumably believes that Satan and demons exist. Yet he doesn’t worship them out of fear.But his point is clear - knowing that a deity exists with certainty does not predispose a person to worship that deity (whatever “worship” means). So if that’s the case, what’s the point in God’s selective divine hiddenness? What does it accomplish?The analogy of the absentee father was the low point of this video. So God is analogous to the burnt, deformed father writing letters to his kids to avoid scaring them… Cute. But think about it - these kids have definitive evidence that their father exists. Now run that same scenario where the mother tells her kids that their father does exist, but that he chooses to stay hidden even though he loves them very much. Maybe the kids would grown up and call BS on their mom.Then he inserts his foot in his mouth:God, being omniscient, know(s) who needs more information to change and who needs less… Given God’s omniscience, He can accurately judge when an attempt to change someone will work and how much influence they need.But unless God is catering to everyone’s needs (Universalism), this is simply some form of Calvinism. God has an exclusive club of people that he chooses for eternal life and everyone else (the vast majority of people who ever lived on earth) can go to hell. The system is rigged.

I am a jack-of-all-trades programmer. I can do full-stack development, but I’m primarily a back end guy.I’m self-taught, starting with a class in BASIC at age 11 that I couldn’t really follow because it was taught by a Dartmouth math professor and he lost me in his explanations of arrays. At age 12, I started learning BASIC for myself by writing a stock market simulation. By the time I got my first job at 16 in the summer before my senior year in high school, I’d added PL/I and a variation of BASIC whose name I don’t recall.During the 25+ years I continued working at that first job (through several job titles), I learned FORTRAN, C, C++, Java, LISP, Assembler, and a couple of other minor languages. Since leaving there, I’ve also added Groovy and Ruby, along with some C#. I’ve used a number of SQL and NoSQL databases.My current title is Senior Software Developer/Project Manager. I work for a small company that contracts out developer time to various other companies and the Vermont government. Currently, I write APIs, interact with databases, and convert data from one form to another, ultimately ending in a Salesforce database. However, while at this current employer, I also worked on a system to allow overseas voters to register and cast absentee ballots and the aforementioned MTM system. Likely, I’ll contribute to some other projects in the future.
