Which are the best hackathons in India?

Hack in the North (Website: Hack In The North 2.0)Hack in the North a.k.a HINT (Not HITN since it’s a legacy bug) is the largest student organized hackathon in India. Launched in 2016, Hack in the North recently concluded its second edition in 2017. Around 250–300 students from numerous reputable universities, colleges and high schools gather for a 36 hour tech marathon to build projects they are passionate about. The hackathon is fully managed by the student fraternity of IIIT Allahabad. Though it is no impediment, most team members are a part of IIIT Allahabad’s Tech Society, Geekhaven. Participants apply in teams and individually too.The hackathon is open to both software and hardware hacks and carried a unique theme this year - “The common man”. Participants have to pay zero sum to participate. Hack In The North is free for everyone. The organizing committee doesn’t charge the participants anything. This year the hackathon was funded by 22 sponsors from across the world and invited applications from as far as Canada, thus setting new benchmarks for hackathons all across the country. The principle sponsors this year were - GitHub (Title); hackster.io, Nasscom 10,000startups (Platinum); RestDB (Silver); Zulip (Chat Partner); Radix (Domain partner); Startup Village (Digital Incubation partner); Digital Ocean (Cloud Partner) and Tensor Flow (Machine Learning partner).Applications for the hackathon are invited in the first week of January and the shortlisting begins in mid Jan . Students can apply individually or in teams of 2,3 and 4. Applicants are then selected based on the profiles they have submitted. Their work on GitHub, projects etc are all taken into account while making a decision. Selected students and teams are apprised of the selection committees decision about two weeks prior to the hackathon. In the applications, the team usually looks for, above anything else -- passion . Applicants are expected to tell the team, what they care about and what excites them. The team wants to know what'll drive a participant to start and continue hacking. It does not matter if it’s someones first time, if there's something about an applicant that stands out from a "typical" hacker they are certainly in the run. A team is selected if atleast 50% of the members of the team would have qualified for the hackathon had they applied individually.Though travel remunerations are rare, they are provided in exceptional cases when the organizing committee decides that it is impossible for a participant to pay his/her travel expenses. Participants are only expected to carry their Laptop, Charger and Change of clothes. The hackthon starts with an opening cermony with talks by various speakers. This year we had speakers from GitHub, Fedora and Startup Village addressing the participants. The title sponsor for 2017 - GitHub, one of world’s leading development platformAfter the talks and organizing teams presentations explaining various rules pertaining to the hackathon, the participants take part in team formation rounds where students who have applied individually can form teams right before the team registrations based on the the mutually beneficial skills they think can help them build an agreeable software/ hardware project.Participants walking into the registration areaRegistration desk - the HINT team’s picture from 2016 in the backgroundPost registrations the teams proceed to the hacking arena. The hacking arena comprises of two fully air conditioned labs with suitable arrangements (Beds, pillows ) so that participants may take power naps to recharge themselves and don’t really have to leave for the entire duration of the hackathon. Drinking water and other amenities are easily available on the college premises. All teams are also allotted numbered tables in order to avoid any confusion (just in case).High speed internet access is provided during the entire 36 hours through IIITA’s LAN network.
