On a weekly basis, I speak with many veterans, by virtue of my family and friends.I think the right to be sitting or kneeling during the National Anthem is what they fought for, the basic Freedoms of the US Constitution.I see a lot more disrespect in people thinking standing for the flag constitutes respecting veterans.If you want to show respect to wounded veterans, why not donate to charities that assist in their rehabilitation? Giving hope to transitioning disabled veteransOr hire them? VA considers cut to unemployability benefitOr befriend them?Why not visit military families and ask if they need help? Or host reservists when they need to get home? Or send care packages?Why not talk to veterans and see what they need?That’s a lot more respectful.

The times are a Changin’When I was a kid, Lord Krishna was often referred to, in academic discourses as the ‘Gay Lord’ - to denote him as the lord of happiness and bliss.You can’t pull that stunt off nowadays, especially because over time, the popular meaning of the word ‘Gay’ has transitioned.The same transition happened with the word ‘Silly’, which once actually meant good and blessed[1][1][1][1] - Or the word ‘Naughty’ which once denoted, Rapists and dreaded Dacoits[2][2][2][2] - or the word ‘Husband’ which once signified a person, who owned or managed an animal farm (and thus the word Animal Husbandry)[3][3][3][3] - And even the word ‘Meat’, which earlier was used to represent all solid food items - both veg and non-veg[4][4][4][4] .Sadly speaking, today, the word ‘Liberal’ too is fast acquiring a new meaning, and the transition isn’t very pleasant.Who the heck are Liberals?Before we delve any deeper into this, let’s take a quick zoom-out, to better understand the situation:Broadly speaking in general terms, there are two primary and competing political ideologies in the world at odds with each other:The Right: Basically those who see the world primarily through the Prism of Religion, (also Race or Nationality in some cases). They generally like hard power, are nostalgic about past, support capitalism and and tend to give more weightage to Prosperity than Equality.The Left: Basically those who see the world through the prism of Social Justice. They claim to dislike Capitalism, and fight for Worker’s rights. They try and promote the irrelevance of religion and tend to give more weightage to Equality than Prosperity.A word of caution - There are no pure Right or Left wing politicians heading any major government in the world right now. It’s all a bit mixed up.Nevertheless, at the border of these extreme political positions, there is a subset of a few woke tangents, who claim to champion the cause of the weak and the disenfranchised.They are better educated, generally from the upper-middle class, and claim to care for the general good of everyone living or otherwise - these people, full of empathy and concern for the others, are called the Liberals.Do as I say, not as I do!Liberals are the fellows who protest against the ill-treatment of animals, oppose wars and dictators, support choice, demand universal health care and stand by welfare, collectivism, ethics and humanity.Liberals are supposed to be the white knights in the shining white armor, riding a white horse, through a white plume of smoke, carrying a white paint brush, hoping to remove all darkness, turning the world into something pretty, pearly and pristine - saving us all from the tyranny of extremes.They are the salad chomping, Evian drinking, yoga loving, gluten hating, self righteous voice for the voiceless, who love attending 5 day long seminars on how to save the planet in 3 days.They’re supposed to be the good guys.But as usual, things aren’t as straight as one would like them to be.The ProblemLet me explain this with an example:Let’s just say, you are a Liberal living in a small town of 1000 residents. Your town has recently elected a Right-Wing mayor. Needless to say, you don’t like the new Mayor and oppose her tooth and nail.When she tries to allow cutting of trees - You oppose.When she tries to reduce taxes for Business Owners - You oppose.When she tries to allocate land for a big factory - You oppose.All that is fine. But you don’t stop there.When she tries to implement laws that ban the custom of polygamy and forced marriages in certain communities - You oppose, citing freedom of religious practice.When she tries to prevent hooligans from disrespecting national symbols and founding fathers - You oppose, citing freedom of speech.When she tries to attend a Chinese New Year Party, wearing a traditional Chinese dress - You oppose calling it cultural misappropriation.When the supposedly bigoted mayor stands up against the bigotry of others - You oppose again, calling her a fascist having a phobia for diversity.In your uni-directional and binary opposition of the Right - you not just bend towards the far-left, but at times are willing to even join and support any other Right wing ideology, that opposes the current dispensation.My enemy’s enemy is my friend - well, not always.People notice.Most regular people do not care about day-to-day politics, they’ve got much better things to do. This huge swarm of individuals, who do not take sides and do not actively support or oppose anything in general, are also called the Fence Sitters - the sweet spot in the data of every psephologist, the reason, brands spend millions on endorsement campaigns, the force that makes politicians organize rallies across the world.These people and their sense of right and wrong, power every demagogue right or left, this is the silent majority that actually runs both the economy and the government.While they are often known for their disdain for anything unremarkable - there’s one thing that these common people notice and hate the most.————→ Hypocrisy.People know.When these common folks, facing ‘real’ issues and challenges on a daily basis see these liberal folks spending their time and energies fighting for issues like the ban on toy guns, McDonald happy meals, horse drawn carriages, gold fish bowls, barbie dolls, football matches that start before noon, pronouns that people should and should not use, house pets, all male sports, national anthems, and even the use of a word like ‘welfare’ - they instinctively know there’s something here that has gone all wrong.If you are a liberal who is fighting for a federally funded program to support the abortion rights of transgender women, while regular people around you don’t get clean drinking water…If you are a liberal asking your government to allow all refugees to come in, while your own fellow citizens are finding it difficult to get even basic medical care…If you are a Liberal who hates even the idea of borders and nations and supports the right of everybody and their cousins to get a free nation of their own.- You are not a Liberal, You are a bigot, just like the Bigots you claim to despise. In my hometown, Mumbai, such people are known as Chutiyas (Clear Headed in the literal sense).The Chutiyas are destroying Liberalism.When the heck did Liberalism transform intopessimism about the human race?How the heck did this just and moral struggle against those in power, metamorphosed into a fight against common sense?How can you call the one in Washington a despot, when you can’t call the one in Turkey or Qatar, a despot as well?How can you champion the cause of free speech, when you only support it, as long as it isn’t against you?How can the lives of Kashmiris facing internet clamp down, matter, while the lives of Uighurs, Kurds, Yemenis, Pashtuns and Baloch, running for their lives, from their oppressive regimes don’t?How can you defeat prejudice around the world, without dealing with it, within?People have eyes - they can see.While the ideals of Liberalism are important and worth cherishing. I don’t think she is a bad person though many people would disagree. I just don’t think she is suitable for the role of a Duchess in the British Royal Family. Maybe what should’ve happened was that Harry renounce his royal connections before he got married so they could go and live the private life they so desperately crave. That way they are free to do what they like without jeopardising a 1000 year institution.They can carry out whatever ‘philanthropic’ work they do without the glare of the media, they can have their two children and raise them privately. They can take as many gas-guzzling private jets as they like while whining on about the environment. They can sit in the public area of Wimbledon and have someone else deal with passers by and other visitors who want to take pictures of the tennis court. They can have their own social media accounts and set them to private where they can post pictures of Archie. They can move out of Frogmore Cottage and learn to stand on their own two feet without Granny’s help. They don’t have to attend royal functions where Meghan has to be taught to turn around and stand still during the national anthem. She can wear whatever she likes without people guessing how much it cost though I doubt there would be any need for a $50,000 dress for an engagement photo because no one will be interested in her clothes. She can dispose off her security detail, private secretaries and nannies and manage her own life like a grown up the way normal people do. They could hug and kiss in public as much as they like and no-one will care that they are nearing 40 and behaving like teenagers.Feel free to add on all the other lovely things they could do, that is, if they really wanted to give up their fortune and live a private life, somehow I doubt it.Edit: as of 10th March 2020, it seems they have now completed everything I suggested, all the heartache caused and family relationship breakdowns could possibly have been avoided if all this had occured before the wedding. I think the Queen could’ve made this transition happen smoothly pre-nuptials.
