What are some of the little things your parents did for you that made the biggest impact?

When my brother and I were kids we shared a small room in our Thane apartment. The space crunch forced our father to get us bunk beds for which we never complained, cause it was so talked about among our friends. My father has been pretty good with geography and knows so much about cities, rivers, countries etc. I think I was in the 6th grade when he decided to put a huge Hybrid(Political and Physical) World Map on the wall just beside our bed. At first, I was really furious with this decision of his. This map had taken the place of all my superhero cutouts that I'd stuck on the wall.(Image used is solely for illustration purpose)Every day I used to curse my father and ask him "Who puts a map and that too this big in their room?" He'd just tell me that you'll learn new things about the world. So I didn't understand his way then, but then gradually I did. Every night before I fell asleep, I used to gaze at the map for no reason and would try to locate the position of countries on the map.One day out of curiosity, I counted how many countries there were.Next, I did Capitals of countries, I had memorized all of them! Rivers, Sea, Lakes everything! My younger brother, like all siblings, used to follow me into whatever I did and he was doing the same with the map.Next thing I know, we were quizzing each other about anything on the map and learnt so much in the process. Our (Me and my brother both)passion for Countries and places had become so much that we used to go to the library to read books and encyclopedias(No internet back then) about a new country or a new Capital city we had just learnt about. Not to mention the other important cities, it's culture, wildlife, climate, economy everything! So while all my friends issued Enid Blyton, Goosebumps, Sidney Sheldon books from the school library, I got books like these(see Below) about places/wildlife etc. to home.My brother and I became the favorite students of our Geography teacher (we had the same one) at school and she was the only teacher who had all praises for us in the Parents meeting at school. We were spot on with Maps in our Geography tests every single time!My brother also won a National Competition organized by TTK related to geography. So this was at school times, but this didn't end there. It also helped (still does) me a lot to strike a conversation with absolute strangers (even Women! :P) I meet on the train, (plane and anywhere I went), and would always have something to talk about their local culture, place, climate even food habits. Impressive huh?At times, I felt I should have pursued a career in Cartography, but then not too many people I knew were in it and so like most I ended up doing Engineering (Computer Science). I am a happy Digital Marketer now!I've lost touch now with the subject, but I am still better at it than most of the people.A part of me now that loves travelling in many ways is because of the love for the subject.I thank my father for this, who knew such a small thing that he did would be so much useful for both of us!I think I am going to do something like this for my kids too.Edit 1:Wow! I am so overwhelmed with all your love and appreciation. This made my Monday. I am new to Quora and just started hanging out on it this year, after a friend suggested me to try it. I am going to thank her! :)I am going to share all your love in the comments and Upvotes with my Papa too!Edit 2:10k+ upvotes! Thank you so much for the love! You can view my other answers on Quora here:Navodit Ravi - Quora

What does Acharya Prashant think about Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev?

Welp!Seems awful!Real Guru like Acharya Prashant has no time to think about People like Sadguru. His time is valuable. Hence, 24*7*365 he is available on YouTube and has given 7000+ videos for the betterment of individual.Acharya Prashant Ji is a generous personality on this earth.Master has given his whole life into the 'Real Service'.Yes, moving into social cause and gaining popularity for any Pseudo Guru is very easy nowadays.Entering into the life of a people directly is dimensionally different thing.Acharya Prashant's hand is not helping hand but the saviour's hand.He doesn't prefer to resolve the worldly issues superficially but resolving the mind which is disastrous and generating issues day in day out.Resolving the issue of River Cauvery is good but how about the rotten mind which is generating more such issues everyday. How about the increment in population?Sadguru feels alright by giving lecture on Producing Kids and their health-wealth.Wisdom literature is extremely important for this world. Still people like Sadguru says, wisdom literature is of no use and better to enter in an activity like meditation.Such falseness Sadguru is spreading.

Has a young child ever come up to you alone and asked for help? How did you react, and what did you do?

About five years ago I was in bustling Hoboken, NJ, which is adjacent to NYC separated by the Hudson River. I was walking down Washington Street, the main commercial street in town which has a constant stream of restaurants, cafes, bars, clothing stores, real estate offices etc. It was about noon during the week, a very nice day out, I think it was September.I came upon an obviously well taken care of little kid about 9 years old looking at me with a very distraught expression on his face. I was like “hey little guy how you doing”?, he replied, “I can’t find my Mommy”. I was like “what??! whadda mean you can’t find your Mom?, well, where’d she go?, when did you last see her”? He replied sadly “I think she’s in there”, as he pointed to some type of gourmet grocery store. I said “ok, well what is she wearing?? I’ll go check, and see if I can find her, and you stay right here”. Right at that moment a woman saw that we were having a situation and she asked me what was going on. I told her what was up and I also told her to wait with the child while I checked for his mom in the grocery store.I saw no one who fit the description after I searched all over the place within the store. I then came outside and told the woman who was waiting with the child that I was going to find a police officer to give us a hand. As I came back cameras came out of everywhere and lo and behold there was John Quinones from “What Would You Do?” asking me what my name is and telling me very concertedly, “Joseph, today you are a hero”! I’d been totally duped! I was like, “umm not really, I have a bunch of siblings and I got lost many times as a kid and I used to freak out, so of course I’m going to help a kid find his mother”! But, I thanked him anyway and we chatted for a bit and then I had to sign a waiver of some type to allow the footage to be shown on the television show. I don’t think it ever aired but honestly I think I’d do anything for a kid who was in trouble. Kids are some of the most vulnerable on this planet. I’ll never understand how anyone could justify harming a child. I don’t think there’s anything that makes me sadder than a child who is abused and hurting.
