Out of the blue one day my husband confessed something that turned my world upside down and changed the trajectory of my entire life.My (now ex) husband had an affair with my best friend of 20 years.At first I didn’t believe it. I thought he must have misconstrued something innocent. I trusted them both so much, I just couldn’t believe they would do something so earth-shatteringly hurtful and selfish. It wasn’t my shame to carry. I had trusted these two people with my life and I gave both of them more loyalty and love than either deserved. They chose to destroy that gift and while we all had to live with the consequences, they are the ones who have to live inside their heads for the rest of their lives. Whatever misery in their souls that led them down that path is surely enough punishment to last a lifetime.And me? I got to stand up, brush myself off, and jettison the wreckage of my mucked up life comforted with the fact that I was leaving with my eyes wide open and my integrity intact.
