Especially calm people who are emotionally resilient.…quiet,…Quiet because she’s timid? Quiet because she’s socially anxious? Quiet because she has nothing interesting to say? These are negative qualities that will pretty much instantly turn me off.Quiet because she’s deliberative, but when she speaks, what she says is engaging? Rock on!The point here is that it’s not the trait that matters; it’s the reason she has that trait.…respectful…Ah, now we get into murky water. You see, the things is, “respect” is very slippery, and means two completely different things.There’s respectful in the sense of submissive, obsequious, weak-willed, or conforming to hierarchy. This kind of “respect” is all about power. You show “respect” by yielding to people with power.This is the type of respect people are talking about when they say things like “Why can’t liberals respect President Trump?”Obsequiousness, to me, is a negative trait. It shows a rigid personality obsessed with fitting in, doing what you’re told, and blind obedience to authority. No thanks. I don’t have a lot of respect for people who see respect that way.On the other hand, “respect” can also mean compassion, empathy, and concern for treating everyone decently. This is the kind of respect people talk about when they say things like “respect for human rights” or “respect for dignity.”This kind of respect is absolutely essential in anyone I will be friends with or date.… and moralistic?Ah, now we get down to it.Every time I have ever heard someone describe themselves as “moralistic,” it has always, always meant one thing: sex-negative.Morality is very important. Unfortunately, many, many people believe that morality begins and ends with sex, and so lose sight of what it means to treat other people well.I will have as little to do as possible with such people.And honestly, seeing the word “moralistic” makes me think that, most likely, when you say “respectful” what you actually mean is “blindly obedient to authority.”So overall, my suspicion is you’re describing traits I don’t like and want nothing to do with.

The country has effectively contained the COVID-19 outbreak.Don’t believe the Western media hype claiming the so-called 2nd wave of infections will doom China.Many Westerners have fled China when the epidemic started and they have had difficulties returning to the country.Therefore, I’m one of the few US citizens, who had been inside the country since late December. I stayed in the capital city under quarantine since Chinese New Year’s.I was here even before Christmas after my visit to the USA – New York City and Washington D.C. – in mid-December. I can speak with authority.I recall the times when Beijing was a ghost town in early February and more than 90 percent of all shops were shuttered, deserted streets, while an earie silence prevailed in public spaces.Consequently, wearing a face mask is just like wearing a jacket and taking your keys outside.The stay-at-home measures were very tough, but most residents understood the government had placed public health as top priority and they were all in this together.When it comes to pandemics, the best strategy would be to make preparations by stockpiling on medical supplies for hospitals, encourage people to wear face masks outdoors and to impose lockdowns and quarantines.There are few other reasonable measures to pursue.The virus does not discriminate.You don’t respect the pathogen and you will learn to regret it later if you become infected and ill. You must make the sacrifice by staying indoors not only for your safety but to protect others.Earlier this week, I had discussions on my WeChat coronavirus news group and we were talking about what changes to expect in our world amid the aftermath of the virus.Our society could turn upside down; just like the first will be the last and the last shall be the first. The cool people will become uncool, while the hermits and shy folks gain popularity.Those who loved to party, sleep around and meet many friends will be known as “super spreaders” and that’s not cool at all.Additionally, the unsung heroes will emerge as the new celebrities.Those who are doctors, nurses, sanitation workers, police officers, construction workers, truck drivers, grocers and many blue collar workers will gain greater appreciation from the rest of the world.Accordingly, China stood well-prepared to adapt to this dramatic geo-political transformation.The Chinese in general are shier than Westerners are. When told to go under quarantine, they did not commit to acts of social rebellion but bore the suffering with silence and dignity.That’s much to be commended and we can only hope Americans can demonstrate a greater willingness to follow through by spending more time inside their homes.We can read more about the necessity to stay at home from Forward. To be honest; they’re a pretty resilient lot, and they have a strong sense-of-humor. Very much a ‘take-the-piss’ kind of humor, so you’ll need a little bit of a tough skin, but nothing overly insulting. Just a bit of fun.My only suggestion would be to show respect to their history, to avoid asking questions about potentially distressing elements of their treatment in the past by European settlers. If you are truly interested in their heritage, probably best to ask first if they are comfortable talking about it, as there are some very big wounds yet to heal within our Aboriginal communities.My interactions with the Aboriginal people and communities of Australia have only ever been positive, I actually find them to be very warm people, and very willing to engage with, and accept strangers, into their communities and lives, if they are shown respect, and appropriate custom is adhered to. Although, they will be well aware that you have no idea what those customs are, so they will probably try to teach you.Just be aware that you are dealing with the most ancient known ‘surviving’ culture on the planet, and that they have been through a very traumatic, and devastating history of European settlement, but, that’s not necessarily how they want to be defined. It’s just good to keep it in mind, so as to avoid any distress on their part.Believe me, the Aboriginal communities of Australia are tough, and there’s not likely to be much YOU can do to offend them, beyond what they’ve already experienced. LOL!If you do-do something to offend them (highly unlikely), they’ll probably just take the piss out of you behind your back! LOL!Be relaxed, be friendly, be respectful and you won’t have a worry in the world.
