He ripped Buttler’s stumps with a 156 km/h rocket.Bowling Rabada against Russell in the match against KKR. Rabada was uncharacteristically tossed the ball for the 14th over and he sealed the game for Delhi by prising out Russell exploiting the latter’s weakness to the fast, rising delivery.Using Ashwin against Buttler in Delhi’s first match against Rajasthan. In the third over, Ashwin got his man in his first over itself.Using Pant as a partial pinch hitter. The Indian pocket dynamite is best used in short doses. Though his temperament has always been an issue, Pant can contribute a healthy 30–35 runs if he gets 20–25 balls. And the team always ensures that he gets just enough deliveries!Smart use of Stoinis. Shimron Hetmeyer, the man Delhi bought for the blitzkrieg finishes, has not fired till now. However, promoting Stoinis has done wonders for the team as he has adapted to the finisher’s role perfectly, providing impactful late flourishes that have often made the difference between a mediocre and a winning total.Axar Patel has been a revelation this season with his tight bowling lengths. He is one of the most economic bowlers of this season and using him smartly during the middle overs, Shreyas has been able to stem the run flow. Delhi has often clawed back into the game in the middle overs after the batting team went berserk during the field-restrictions.The problem that Delhi is facing now is the unavailability of certain players due to injury concerns. Amit Mishra won’t be playing this season again, little Pant is going to miss a few games, and Iyer is also a doubtful starter, at least for the next match. However, if they are able to find like-for-like replacements for certain players (I am thinking of scooping Imran Tahir from CSK during the mid-season transfer window), Delhi will be a top contender for the trophy this year.And if that happens, or even if it doesn’t, Shreyas Iyer is going to be an asset to the next generation of Team India.Maybe even the leader of the Indian squad in another five years.PS: Delhi Capitals fans, you have to credit this man for the young Iyer’s captaincy prowess though. Although there are few special duties for a captain to perform, they must act as a role model for their team-mates and be a leader on the field. This means they have a responsibility to encourage and motivate their team, providing the players with a boost in morale when the going gets tough and also being a calming influence when spirits are high.The captain should lead by example, though that doesn't mean they have to be the most skillful player; it does mean they have to treat others around them with respect.The captain should have a good relationship with the coach and others in the team. The coach must also ensure the captain understand the responsibility he or she has, and in particular must select a player who has a strong personality in the team and a player who is not afraid to instruct other members of the team.The captain may also be asked to make the decision on who will take the set pieces, and although this will have been agreed before the game, the captain may have to make a decision on the spot and should be allowed to do so.It is essential that the captain is a good talker on the pitch and can convey their message clearly to the other players. Other players should respect what the captain is advising them to do and not continually contradict their requests.The captain should be inspirational for the other team members, and the coach should encourage the captain to address the team before the match, to inspire the rest of the team to do well. Doing this may be difficult at first, especially addressing their peers, though with practice the player will develop a huge amount of confidence doing it.

The players of Pakistan look like they’ve just had an eating competition in Barbeque Nation.Modern cricket demands utmost fitness. Kohli spends a lot of time in the gym. DuPlessis sprints like a teenager at the age of 34. Gayle looks like he can take on a raging bull at the age of 39. MSD looks fitter at 37 than at 25. Pakistan team should definitely concentrate on fitness.3. Brainless CaptainI didn’t say that Shoaib Akhtar did.A captain’s biggest responsibility is to lead from the front. Let us look at what Sarfaraz did in the match against Australia:Look at his partnership with Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz. As a settled batsman, his role is to guard the tailenders and to ensure that he faces maximum balls while they play the supporting role. But Sarfaraz played many dot balls which let to them slogging the ball. It worked, but not until the end. Even with the last batsman Shaheen Afridi, he let Shaheen take a single on the last ball of the over which is completely unacceptable. A captain never hides in the shadows of his players.Any sensible batsman could have known what to do, but not Sarfaraz. People mock Misbah for getting out in a silly way in 2007’s World Cup. But the way he fought till the end is highly commendable. Honestly, he was the last inspirational leader Pakistan team had.4. TerrorismPlayers from other nations are scared to tour Pakistan for an away game. This explains the scenario. This definitely hits the confidence of PCB and the Pakistani players.I’m too inexperienced to think of a solution to this problem. But the issue is pretty clear.
