PDF Editor FAQ

What are the practical ideas to make AAP win in Delhi Vidhan Sabha 2013 with 50+ Seats?

I have heard all kinds of suggestions but there is one thing missing: actually getting your voters to give up a few hours on election day and goto polling booth.Step 1: Convince people about your agendaStep 2: Ask the people you have convinced and your volunteers to convince 10 more people about your agenda (power of exponential)Step 3: Make sure all your voters have voter id or get them to get one. Distribute voter id forms. Ask them to fill up and submit.Step 4: Make sure each volunteer/supporter get at least 10 people to election booth on election day. Every one who votes must make/check with 10 more people to make sure they did vote.Higher Income and Higher Middle Income group don't bother to vote, they are too cozy in their home comfort. So I would not concentrate on them. All energy should be invested in lower middle income class and lower income class and they are in the majority, not only in terms of numbers but in people who actually step out to vote.

Why are you against voter ID laws?

Top Ten Reasons I’m Against Voter ID Laws:Most of the people affected are poor and brown, and many are old, or quite young. They do not have cars or driver’s licenses.Driving and flying are privileges. Voting is a Constitutional right, meaning that the absolute minimum number of obstacles should be placed in the path of those wishing to do it.The state legislatures decide, often very arbitrarily, which forms of ID will be acceptable. In states where there are a lot of students, for example, Republican legislators have chosen to exclude student ID cards as valid forms of identification, even when issued by a state university (in other words, “government issued ID cards”).In at least one state, after a new voter ID requirement was established, the state shut down the DMV offices in more than half of the majority-black counties. It’s expensive to get a new ID. In many cases it requires buying a copy of your birth certificate from the private contractor who handles vital records requests for the county of your birth, then paying on top of that the fee for a state non-driver ID. In at least one case I know of, a county courthouse burned down with all the paper records, and a whole generation of people can’t access their birth certificates anymore. The more affluent ones can hire attorneys for appeals and alternatives. Not the poor.Even in states where they don’t shut down DMV offices that are near the brown-skinned population, those offices have limited hours and are still some miles away from the people who need them, and who don’t have cars to get there, so they need a ride both ways, often with hours of waiting in between. When I was 18, my parents took me in, vouched for me as their child, and I registered to vote in Maryland. In New York, in DC, and then in Oregon, I signed affidavits that I was a citizen in order to register. At the polling places there were huge logbooks of all registered voters in the precinct. Every time you voted you signed the book. If your signature matched, you got a ballot. If your signature did not match, they gave you a provisional ballot. No ID required at the polling place. Many of those affected have lived in the same towns their whole lives. The election volunteer ladies know them. They have voted in their towns without ID for decades.ALL OF THIS IS BEING DONE, ostensibly, to curb a form of voter fraud that is so rare as to be nearly nonexistent: voter impersonation. In California in 2018 they established that in the entire state six people voted who were not citizens (because the state misclassified them). That’s six out of more than 20,000,000 voters. The Brennan Center keeps good stats on this.https://www.quora.com/q/political-clarity/Before-Republicans-Conservatives-talk-about-background-checks-for-buying-guns-why-won-t-the-left-Democrats-support/comment/851435

Why do many people in the US have so much resentment about the meager governmental benefits that the poor receive?

This is not just the poor.My own (now ex) wife. And many like her.She went to Northwestern U - Degree in EconomicsThen got an MBA from Kellogg - Rated number one in the US the year she got her MBA.She got a top paying job with DTR - a top 5 Business consulting firmShe got sick during that time - But was not diagnosed because no one recognized her symptoms - she just could not get the work done- and ultimately got firedAnd declared bankruptcy - and owed tens of thousands of dollars in student loans. She went to live with her family - who also, despite having 2 sisters in medical school- did not recognize the symptoms - so they kicked her out and made her homeless. She refused to take ANY government money for years - but was finally diagnosed correctly and started taking medication - but worked a crappy low paying job.I met her - we got married - and she started working higher paying jobs again. Our first child was born with a deadly cardiac condition - this took a toll on both of us - but he survived and eventually she went back to work. After our daughter was born, her illness stopped responding to medication and her company (not her) put her on disability (via insurance) - when she did not get better after a year - the insurance ran out- her company automatically applied for SSI disability - and she received it.However: She had been receiving an $80,000 a year income. Her disability insurance gave 2/3 of this - most of this was spent by us paying for caretakers (she could no longer care for our children and sometimes herself)SSDI paid $1200 per month. A studio apartment here costs $1000 per month minimum - those are rented out quickly - so what is left? Studios that charge $1500 per month. How the f..k does a person who gets $1200 per month pay for a place to live? She eventually could do a few hours a day volunteer work to help others with disabilities- again - people receiving even less because they were never able to earn at her level. The two of us spent a lot of time trying to help people. There were some homeless who received nothing - Why? Because after losing a job - or going to jail - they had no address. Then they lost their photo ID - once that happened - good luck - with no address, they could not get the documentation the DMV requires to issue a new photo ID. Without a photo ID, they could not get a place to live - Even when I tried to pay FOR THEM, no place would accept them unless THEY had a photo IDWithout a photo ID, they could not apply for any form of SSI help.Without a photo ID, they could not apply for a job.So eventually (I will not go into the painful details) my ex wife and I divorced. And no question - She will get money from me until I no longer have an income - because there is no other way for her to even have a place to live. The courts would have given her money anyway - but I never questioned that, in this heartless society, the responsibility falls on me to split my income between two households and make sure she has a place to live.Despite years of her paying into various government funds - and my continuing to pay - she will NEVER get even close to the amount of money it actually takes to simply “get by”.I literally had to tell her to stop working just before our children were born - she would not even take a day off to take care of herself. And her company made millions of dollars off of her skills - she was doing high end business consulting ($150,000 to 400,000 a year) on an $80,000 a year salaryWe met many people like her - and yes she knew people gaming the system as well - but the situation for the vast majority of people is identical to hers - they legitimately are in a situation beyond their control and desperately need help.In our case - We were paying 20 hours a day for people to help out (day and night care - I had a job and needed to sleep) - Later 10 hours a day - and US tax laws - no dependent care deduction unless either both people are working or in school - no deduction allowed if one person is on disability - So we were not only spending all that money just to make sure I could work, but we get zero tax discount for it - yes - we paid taxes on her SSDI -There is this insane idea that “everyone is gaming the system, and we should pay insanely below poverty level to get people to work.”If I could even just give a fraction of my paid taxes to her or my social security deduction , she could actually afford an apartment without my financial help - if the the amount actually paid out is increased to a “living level” - this not going to even cause a ripple in the trillion dollar national budget - this is NOT a matter of “affordability” - this is simply a lack of willingness.
