First of all, I would urge you to be positive. Nothing is easy but it’s not like there is no or little funding.The easiest way? Finding a funding is not that hard but it is competitive! All you have to do is sit on a computer religiously for hours and look through Universities and their funding opportunities. Then shortlist the ones that really interest you and you think you have a chance of winning. You will need to do thorough research. That’s what I did.I first got into a Master’s Program in Nottingham University which provides various funding opportunities for home and overseas students. It took me a long time to find it. Had someone told me it would have saved me a year’s worth of time and effort. But hey, everybody learns the hard way and in the end I don’t have to share the credit with anyone for everything good that followed.The funding wasn’t for living expenses though. But I applied for another external scholarship that provided me just enough to pay out my rent and other stuff. I understand not everyone can get two scholarships. But it’s worth trying.What you can also check is if funding opportunity is provided for PhD students by the same University. Those universities which provide funding for master’s often have for PhD as well, although some may be competitive. Personally, I think getting into a PhD in the same university or a University in your city is easier because you know your University well and vice-versa. Your Professor knows you too and when you approach him/her for a potential Project he might be more than willing to write a very good recommendation letter for a scholarship or funding, etc and of course, offer you a project of your choice (UK system). That’s what my Professor did. She supported me and I was able to get a clear idea of what I was getting into, what the funding scenario was,etc.It’s not that hard if you have decent scores but to get funding sometimes you might need to show evidence of achievements in the form of valuable projects/talent/award/activities/internships/hardship that you overcame and paper or a good project (for PhD) that makes you stand from the crowd.I would say do your research well, analyze, make sure you meet the eligibility criteria and above all, make sure you know what you are getting into. And believe in yourself.
