I purchased this product to reduce eye strain related to reading ~1,000 PDFs per year, mostly on electronic screens. My rating for this product is based on three components:1) The EULA - Sony very much oversteps with the EULA, disallowing opt out for data collection and providing themselves with permission to collect data not just from the Digital Paper itself but also from any device connected to the Digital Paper. The Digital Paper requires connection to a PC to operate (only way to load documents into the DP), meaning that Sony has effectively given itself permission to mine unspecified data from my PC and use it without any real restrictions, including expressly permitting themselves to share my data with unspecified third parties.2) The battery life - Sony advertises "up to 3 weeks" of battery on a single charge, for a device specifically marketed toward professionals in industries where document viewing is typically heavy, yet their conditions for battery testing to make that claim were 60 minutes of viewing for up to 30 pages of text and 1 minute of stylus use per day with the wifi and bluetooth features turned off. In actuality, a battery charge lasts about 2 days with reasonably heavy use of both the screen and the stylus for marking up documents and taking notes with wifi connected to allow transfer of documents.3) The device itself - the only reason this device has gotten better than a 1 star from me is that the device itself is pretty awesome. It definitely reduces eye strain. It's weighs less than a legal pad and is about the same size (slightly wider). The stylus is very responsive, making the device useful for hand-written annotations and note taking. I've been much more productive since purchasing this device and really think there is a market for such machines, though it is a bit pricey for the limited functionality. If it weren't for the misleading battery life statement and the serious overreach of the EULA, I'd give this device 5 stars.I can adjust my work patterns to make sure the device is charged daily, and with a virtual machine running the software, it is possible to limit Sony's data grab, but seriously, Sony, bad show. There is no "Go To Page #" functionality, there is only a slider to go to a specific page. In a PDF with lots of pages it makes it a pain to jump around.2. There is also no way to look at the Table of Contents.3. There is no toolbar like in the DPT-S1 which had the next and previous buttons. So now to turn the page you are always forced to use gestures. I'd rather just tap on the side to turn the page like on the Kindle or DPT-S1 with the toolbar.4. There is no back button, so if you click on an annotation or link and it brings you to another page the only way to get back to the previous page is to use the page slider.5. The DPT-S1 had the concept of Workspaces, this model does not. The DPT-RP1 only allows you to see "Documents in the Same Folder" or "Recently Read". If you view Recently Read, there is no way to remove a document from the list if it is no longer relevant like in the DPT-S1.6. There is no date timestamp to show you when the the document was added when viewing the documents in the Folders. A timestamp is a lot more useful than a "New" icon.7. The cap to cover the pen's USB connector is attached by a thin piece of plastic. The form factor is also great. It is light and thin yet sturdy. There are, however, some significant deficiencies in usability. The inability to scroll (up/down or left/right) while zoomed in is a major annoyance. Also, the lack of file management capabilities on the device itself such as being able to determine what folder a new set of notes is saved to, or even the ability to move it from the default "notes" folder to another subject specific folder is very limiting. Of course the fact that despite having WiFi builtin, it can't directly sync with any cloud based services (e.g. Dropbox, onedrive) also seems very short sighted and means that you will often have to carry both the dpr-rp1 and a laptop to meetings, conference sessions etc. (anywhere were someone might direct you online PDF content). Both the tablet and the stylus worth blaming a lot.First, the DPTA-RS1 (stylus of RP1) is the worst design of stylus I've ever experienced. I have lots of stylus, including the stylus of Surface pro 4, wacom, and so on. None of them suffered so many problems as DPTA-RS1. The tips (DPTA-RTP1) were very easy to wear out, even 10 pages of writing will need a replacement. Furthermore, the tips are easy to breakoff from neck... Just as picture showed. Almost every friend of mine who bought this suffered the same problem. To be honest, it is absolutely a design failure.Furthermore, the tablet part suffers some problems like the gap between the screen and the body grows very large for some certain part, just as the picture shows. My RP1 haven't suffered such problems yet, but a lot of people suffered.
