PDF Editor FAQ

What is the connection between synchronicity and enlightenment?

I find this question most interesting in many respects. It helps provide insights into phenomena that from my perspective, is innate. That is we somehow know that so called “synchronicity” is part of nature, yet when they occur, they are still surprising and amazing.“Enlightenment” can point to this innate (a priori) as if tucked away into a dark area of all those things that are not conscious. Yet they pop into our conscious as empirical events. Thus the phrase a priori empirical events which provide and “ENLIGHTENMENT.”Another problem the question sees to help solve, is a perspective of this dark area of the unconscious that with the entanglement, an opening of a veil, providing the light to shines upon the mental and physical whereabouts with an uncanny attention to detail. As if our world exists in the dark, or “EVE” of existence, almost forgotten, saved by a principle of nature and grace to demonstrate that, yes, we are part of the whole, and here lies the proof. So, the innate aspect, a leap of faith, is not without works to provide nourishment, that indeed, we have evidence. Not all enlightenment requires synchronicity, naturally, and conversely, not all synchronicity involves enlightenment. But this does not exclude the modality, that yes, there is a connection.-For example, there is an “age of Enlightenment” but not everyone was enlightened and many did not experience what is now known as “synchronicity.”And there are many that may have had “coincidences” who no matter how profound, may dismiss them as mere chance happenings. Some may even believe that there are no coincidences because people are hallucinating. Others might be moved with the idea that these are divine imperatives.-So, perhaps we can start with defining the terms. There is a narrow and broader definitions. From this the CONCEPT of SYNCHRONICITY, has for variants, categories.Category IThe coincidence of a psychic state in the observer with a simultaneous, objective, external event that corresponds to the psychic state or content (e.g. scarab), where considering the psychic relativity of space and time, such a connection is not even conceivable.CATEGORY IIThe coincidence of a psychic state with a corresponding (more or less simultaneous) external event taking place outside the observer’s field of perception, i.e., at a distance, and only verifiable afterward (e.g. Stockholm fire).CATEGORY IIIThe coincidence of a psychic state with a corresponding not yet existent future event that is distant in time and can likewise only be verified afterward.CATEGORY IVI see no reason why synchronicity should always be a coincidence between two psychic states or a psychic state and non psychic event. There may also possibly be coincidences of this kind between non-psychic events. The first three categories can be found in the short 29 paragraph, On Synchronicity, and each include the “active psyche.” The fourth is found, but not exclusive to, in Synchronicity: An Acausal Connecting Principle par 165 and in Atom and Archetype: The Pauli/Jung Letters 1932–1958 p 60).The basic concept is many times misunderstood with regards to the term “meaning” and “at the same time.” So this should be cleared up.We can see that at least in Category Three, and we find these also with Category Four, the broader view of “time” is more like the Greek CHRONOS, which is incorporated in the second syllable of synchronicity.“Meaning” is a psychological term. If we read the discussions between Pauli and Jung, they formed a collaboration for a “unified view of the universe” (physics/psychology) that includes synonymous terminology. For example, in these next tables formed from the wonderful collection in the Atom and Archetype Letters. We can see that there is a bi-focal view staring at the principles of nature and grace working in the universe with lenses of physics and psychology.Pauli believed these opposite spins (physics/psychology) were different symmetric aspects of the same abstract. However, he lost out to his friend and rival Niels Bohr’s asymmetry. Jung adopted the asymmetrical analysis for his therapy.“Bohr was convinced that complimentary was relevant not only to physics but also to psychology and to life itself” (Deciphering the Cosmic Number p 102).-Now is a good time to show the Jung/Pauli controversial schematic:The cross hairs, a space time diagram, have physics on the left of the vertical line and psychology on the right of the vertical line. This next section will have some of the explanations, and for those that are familiar, they could just be skipped, but they should not be ignored if one is serious about the study. Now let us have a critic.Writer Arthur Koestler, has been called a “walking encyclopedia.” He was friends with Eric Blair, better known as George Orwell. His critique of the Jung-Pauli collaboration here in the book Janus: A Summing UP can also be found in his book, The Roots of Coincidence, pp. 100-101.We should note that these were meant for popular market. For a bit more elite audience, the article “Order From Disorder” in Harper Bazaar, July 1974 –he has a contrary view, “Why should we shrink from Jung-Pauli’s synchronicity concept as an ‘acausal connecting principle’ when…”).In any case, for the “interested reader,” Jung does provide an explanation. We also find Jung’s explanation in Atom and Archetype: Pauli/Jung Letters 1932-1958, pp 55-62.Other writers have supported and provided insights, not exclusive to those listed here. For example,Alan Combs and Mark Holland, (Synchronicity: through the eyes ofscience, myth, and the trickster, p 76).F.David Peat, (Synchronicity: A Bridge Between Matter and Mind, p 56-57).Marie Von Franz, (Psyche and Matter, pp 217-218, 304).Arthur I. Miller, (Deciphering The Cosmic Number: The Strange Friendship of Wolfgang Pauli and Carl Jung, p. 185).We should add that space-time diagrams seem to be used by many experts to help us gather insights into the workings of nature and grace.Fritjof Capra says, “The theory which constitutes the proper framework for these space-time diagrams, and for the mathematical expressions associated with them, is called ‘quantum field theory’” (Tao of Physics p 181).Now is a good time to show a simplistic graphic model using the components noted. Afterwards, we will support, with references those not noted above.Above, the four corners are the four variants, categories of synchronicity. The center has the specified space time diagram. There is a larger circle, representing the “field of perception” used in defining the universal quantifying propositions (categories). There are four terms inside the circle. These are the four functions of the psyche used by Jung. Here is an explanation.According to the glossary in Atom and Archetype, “These functions are often represented by specific colors.”Jung says that these functions are like four points of a compass (Modern Man in Search of a Soul p 94). He also admits that these are not the only functions, that in other schools of psychology, there is also “will” and more.We now have one more component to describe and support. These are the four little colored circles at the bottom middle. The colors are arbitrary, but in the graphic model above, Energy=Red, Matter=Black or Blue, Psyche=golden, and Psychoid=transparent. These are the identified Four EMPs of synchronicity. Here is how they came about. Blame Einstein for getting Jung started with the theory of synchronicity because Albert used to go over to Jung’s mansion frequently for dinners and would engage in lively discussions during the early stages of his relativity theories.“It is interesting in this regard to note that the recent opening of Einstein’s private papers has disclosed that dreams and images played a very important role in Einstein’s creative life. Those luncheon conversations may have been more fruitful that Jung realized, especially since we now know that Einstein possessed a keen sensitivity to the deep levels of the psyche. It may, at some later tie, be very fruitful to study the relationship between Jung and Einstein more closely, particularly in view of Einstein’s interest in Hindu/Buddhist thought and his later description of the archetypal qualities of the relativity concept”“While Jung may have had an important psychological effect on Einstein, the theory of Relativity became the base and starting point for his own thinking about Synchronicity. At several points he seems to have been consciously seeking to develop a concept that would be the equivalent of the relativity theory with the added dimension of the psyche” (Ira Progoff, Jung, Synchronicity and Human Destiny, p 152).Dr. Ira Progoff, Depth psychologist was one of Jung’s favorite students. The original manuscript for his book was heavily edited by Jung with many handwritten notes on the margins.I was fortunate enough to have contacted Dr. Progoff and he was kind enough to reply by letter, thanking me for some work that helped my own research on the topic. I was even more surprised, a couple of weeks after that when he called on the telephone. After about a half hour or so, he was good enough to say that I had “a good technical grasp of the subject.” Perhaps I felt somewhat confident because since childhood back in the 1950’s these type of experiences provided the basis for my interest. In any case, we are need to get a good idea of these EMPs in a workable fashion.“,,, the eminent astronomer, V. A. Firsoff suggested that ‘mind was a universal entity or interaction of the same order as electricity or gravitation, and that there must exist a modulus of transformation, analogous to Einstein’s famously equality E=mc squared , whereby ‘mind stuff’ could be equated with other entities of the physical world.” (Arthur Koestler, The Roots of Coincidence, p 63);“But, as scientific investigators of the situation in which we find ourselves, we cannot, of course, neglect to study a mass of phenomena so large and so obtrusive as to constitute, to first appearance, the whole of the world we know. Consequently, a separate science has gradually arisen which endeavors to deal with these and other of the rather bulky leaving of physics. This science is called ‘Psychology’, and the facts with which it deals are dubbed ‘mental’, or, more commonly, ‘Psychical’ (J.W. Dunne, An Experiment With Time p 18);These should provide a good enough overall understanding of the graphic model. It looks more like a game model, and perhaps it would work well with this approach. We already noted the “observer” so this should also have some support. The entire board is a “field of presentation.”Observer.“We have now arrived within introductory range of that very meek spirited creature known to modern science as the 'Observer'. It is a permanent obstacle in the path of our search for external reality that we can never entirely get rid of this individual. Picture the universe how we may, the picture remains of our making. On the other hand, it is, probably, equally true that, paint the picture how we will, we have to do it with the paints provided. But there is no reason why either of these limitations should invalidate the result regarded as a 'map by which we may safely set our course. Moreover we can test it in that respect; and experience has shown that, thus tested, it proves reliable. Therein lies the justification of our search for knowledge.“The general procedure in every science is to begin by the accurate tabulating of differences in what is observed. If we subsequently discovcr that these differences are due to the charactcr or actions of the observer, we can note that such is the cxplanation of the difference and draft our science accordingly; but that addition to our knowledge does not invalidate our prcvious analysis of the differences as observed.“All sciences deal only with a Standard observer, unless the contrary is explicitly stated; and psychology is no exception to this rule. Its observer is assumed to be any normally constituted individual.“ (An Experiment With Time pp 20-21)Field of Presentation. All such phenomena it styles ' Presentations', and it regards them as located within the individual's private 'Field of Presentation'. (We shall employ this term in preference to the commoner 'Field of Consciousness', which is insufficiently definite.) This field of presentation contains, at any given instant of Time, all the phenomena which happen to be offered for possible Observation. Let us take a concrete example of what that means. You are now reading this book, and your field of presentation contains the Visual phenomena connected with the printed letters of the word you are regarding. It contains also, at the same instant, the visual phenomenon pertaining to the little numeral at the bottom of the page. This you 'failed to notice'; but the numeral in question was, clearly, inside the area covered by your vision—it was affecting your brain via the eye, its psychical 'correlate' was being offered to your attention. And that Statement holds good for a host of other visual phenomena.” (An Experiment With Time p 24)So now we are ready to see how synchronicity can help enlighten our view. And in spite of the criticism, we will see how the schema is supposed to work.-Let us start withCategory IThe coincidence of a psychic state in the observer with a simultaneous, objective, external event that corresponds to the psychic state or content (e.g. scarab), where considering the psychic relativity of space and time, such a connection is not even conceivable.Jung provides the scarab case for his example in this definition. Those familiar have heard it many times over. But for the sake of clarity, a patient who had not found success with other psychologists, sought help from Jung’s therapy. She was a very stubborn woman and had a rigid view of the world. She had a dream in which a king on a beach had approached her and with an outstretched arm and open palm was offering her a gold scarab jewel ring. As she related the dream to Jung the next day, there was a knock at the window. Jung opened the window, allowing what was a close analogy to a scarab jewel, a scarab beetle to fly in. He caught in in mid air and while in his palm, he said, “Here is your gold scarab.” She freaked. But this was enough to puncture her rational and help with treatment. Now we can use the “coincidence game” to represent the events, from Jung for the center of perception, as the designated observer. The little golden chip on the left side, represents Jung’s active psyche as he listens. The little blue chip represents the physical object, the scarab insect. The constellated cluster is compared with the four corners and it looks like the arrangement in the upper right. That tells us, with a visual graphic language, that this is a Category One.According to the narrative, these are the a priori emprical facts (physics/psychological) and the situation of correspondence “at the same time” in the “same field of perception.” Because they are “acausally related” they do meet the criteria for the definition. In tribute to Paul Kammerer, who assigned a power for each similitude, this would have a Power of Two.Now, we can start to use the right side to regard the facts. This would be a posteriori. We still have the facts on the left, the equivalences. And we put one chip on the right side to demonstrate that Jung did have an “amplification.” He associated the event with “REBIRTH.” If we were able to zoom into the amplification, for “magnification,” we would have a discussion about Egyptian mythology and the 10th station. But here we won’t be concerned, as the purpose is an overall workings of synchronistic events and how they can evoke “enlightenment(s).”We now know that this account, at least in the graphic model, is a CAT I, Power of Two, with AMP 1.-But wait! There is more! Every synchronistic event is “carried by” chance. So we can automatically put an AMP for probability. The dumb bell looking chip can be placed to represent the hermeneutic truism, “This is a chance happening. Look how many times it did not happen. Look elsewhere.”But wait again! We just placed another golden chip on board. This tells us that this is AMP 3. But what would does this represent? Well, if we consider that the therapist name is Jung, which means “king” and/or “young” and that in the dream there is a king, and this therapist is involved with “rebirth” for his occupation, well it would make sense. Thus we have AMP 3+ ! The graphic model now ends here as a CAT I, Power Two, AMP 3+.Some “coincidences” can have a lot of AMPs to help enlighten us and really appreciate these surprisingly amazing occurrences that pop into our lives. This CAT I handles a lot of typologies. For example, Alan Vaughan in his Incredible Coincidences uses Chance Encounters of the Third Kind: People, Things, Information. In short, if you are thinking of some person(s), thing, or information, and whammo, they pop into your field of perception at the same time, CAT I, you just experienced a Chance Encounter of the Third Kind. Now let us quickly do aCATEGORY IIThe coincidence of a psychic state with a corresponding (more or less simultaneous) external event taking place outside the observer’s field of perception, i.e., at a distance, and only verifiable afterward (e.g. Stockholm fire). Here we will not represent AMPs for enlightenment, so that it would be up to the reader to get something out of it, and if they want to play, put up their own chips.Jung refers to astronomer Camille Flammarion who, in 1900, wrote his controversial book The Unknown. In an article in an intellectual magazine, he asked his readers a set of questions. He got over 4,000 responses. Almost half had the experiences he was interested. He published 180. Most of them are CAT II. There are a few here and there that are CAT I and CAT III, even some with more than one Category in the set. Here is the typical visual graphic language, with an image of Flammarion in the background layer.Because most of the letters involved someone dying and a corresponding event that happened even hundreds of miles away more or less at the same time, we show the golden chip to represent the subject who is dying and dies and another chip outside their field of psychological perception. In this case the transparent chip because some events may have not been physical, like a clock stopping, or loudly screaming, as in some of the letters.—Here are a couple of letters to help us first quantify the category and see if we can get some enlightenment or not from the account. These examples, pulled from the 180 letters, should help compare the graphic model and/or universal quantifying propositions (four categories) with the existential proposition, the narrative. Flammarion used Roman Numerals.CXXXIV. "M. Rigagnon, curb in the Parish of Saint- Martial of Bordeaux, being in his room engaged in writing, saw before him his brother who lived in the colonies, and who said to him, 'Adieu, I am dying!' M. Rigagnon, much moved, called in his vicars (his assistant clergy), and told them what he had just seen. These gentlemen- wrote down the day and the hour of the apparition, and some time after news of the brother's death arrived. It coincided exactly with the date at which he had appeared to M. Rigagnon. This fact was related to me by one of the vicars who wrote down an account of it as soon as it occurred."E. BEGOUIN." Reaux, near Jouzac (Charente Interieure.)"Letter 524.(The Unknown pp 140-141).CXLII (B) " My mother, while nursing me about two o'clock in the morning, saw my paternal grandfather in a corner of her chamber, and at the same time heard a noise like that made by something heavy when it falls into water. Much troubled, she woke my father, who, not attaching any importance to her vision, went to sleep again. Some hours after they received a telegram saying that my grandfather had been drowned while stepping into or out of his boat. He had left home a little before, or a little after, two o'clock on that morning. Simon."40 Rue Mailer, Paris."Letter 542.(ibid pp 145-146).The two accounts above are short. In the first account, the BROTHER is the center. Is “active psyche” represented by the little golden circle is simply a farewell, “Adieu, I am dying!” is located inside the observer’s physical field of perception. (Although, with inductive logic we might conclude that he was thinking about his brother, M. Rigagnon at the same time). The apparition, represented by the transparent icon, is located outside the designated observer’s field of perception, more or less at the same time, and verified afterwards. Thus, it is obviously a CATEGORY TWO.-The second account above is also a CATEGORY TWO. But what seems to be more “enlightening” is that the the witness, the mother, in her mind’s eye and ear (vision), saw her paternal grandfather and “heard a noise like that made by something heavy when it falls into water” (represented by the transparent icon outside the circle), more or less at the same time. The vision is analogous, having something in common with the actual way the grandfather is alleged to have died.-These two, provide a glimpse of many reports that may be routinely dismissed as hoaxes, products of the imagination, out right lies, hearsay, and other forms of incredulity, healthy or unhealthy. Yet, for those that can get past these debates, for a serious inquiry, they provide clues into some of the workings of nature that prove beyond what most consider is acceptable.-For example, we can note that there are accounts where consciousness is not confined within the few cubic centimeters of the skull. An asymmetric ‘mirroring’ appears in more than one location, as if consciousness is non localized.-With Category Two, when we consider the space-time diagram horizontal line as “at the same time,’ space includes all those events that are occur at the same time, as if elongated horizontally.CATEGORY III“The coincidence of a psychic state with a corresponding not yet existent future event that is distant in time and can likewise only be verified afterward.”The original definition noted above now has a proposed revision, for reasons that will be provided elsewhere. The coincidence of a psychic state with a corresponding (a)fter: not yet existent future event and/or (b)efore: prior event(s), that are distant in time and can likewise only be verified afterward. The vertical line, elongated, represents a view of space as elongated to also include the ‘past,’ ‘present,’ and ‘future.’ As we can see with Category Three. The background image is physicist mathematician Wolfgang Pauli. Who describes an existential narrative that we propose is a Category Three. The above have a cluster of one “active psyche” (a little golden circle), and three blue circles to represent physical actualities below the larger circle. To make it easier here, it may help to combine the three blue circles. This does not suggest that each is not significant in itself. But for the sake of understanding the graphic model, it makes it simpler.Sometimes, in courts of law, a judge combines separate offenses into a single incident for sentencing. When we compare Pauli’s account of his dream, the reference to the Popes, likewise, in Catholic theology, they are “One.” Thereby the three blue circles, as one, when compared to the four corners, look like the arrangement in the bottom lower left corner. Thus, Category Three.Professor Wolfgang Pauli's 20July1954 "Three popes" dream."I am in Copenhagen, at the home of Niels Bohr and his wife, Margarethe. He makes an announcement to me, a very official one: ‘Three popes have given you a house. one of them is named John. I don't know the names of the other two. I have made no secret of the fact that we two do not share their religious beliefs but have nevertheless persuaded them to offer you a gift.’ He then presents me with a sort of document of the gift, and I sign it. At the same time, I am given a train ticket by Bohr and his wife to ride to the new house." (Atom and Archetype pp 135-136)Jung and Pauli try to figure out what historical pope is named John. Each naturally look into their "past.". Each consider John, the Evangelist, but he is no pope. Jung even notes a rumor about one pope who gave birth during a procession (Papa pater partum, Papissa peperit partum). (Atom and Archetype p. 154).I don’t know if Pauli even cared who had been installed as Pope after Pius. Wolfgang Pauli passed away on Decemeber 15, 1958.We, as historical witnesses can verify that the actuality of these Popes that appeared after the specified time of his field of perception.Pope John XXIII 28 October 1958 – 3 June 1963Servant of God John Paul I 26 August 1978– 28 September 1978John Paul II Papa IOANNES PAULUS Secundus 16 October 1978– 2 April 2005-CATEGORY IV“I see no reason why synchronicity should always be a coincidence between two psychic states or a psychic state and non psychic event. There may also possibly be coincidences of this kind between non-psychic events.”Paul Kammerer, the background image, has been criticized for lack of psychological worth (individuation) in his 100 accounts listed in his 1919 controversial book, Das Gesetz Der Serie (Law of Series), or folk speak, “when it rains it pours.”But when we consider the operation of synchronicity, we should not ignore those that must occur regardless of our active psyche. We may witness some of these supposed trivial series of similitudes.

How do you cope with anxiety?

Inhale: There are approaches to quiet your uneasinessRealize that sentiment of your heart pulsating quicker in light of an unpleasant circumstance? Or on the other hand maybe, rather, your palms get sweat-soaked when you're stood up to with a staggering undertaking or occasion. That is tension — our body's characteristic reaction to stretch. In the event that you haven't perceived your triggers yet, here are a couple of normal: your first day at a new position, meeting your accomplice's family, or giving an introduction before many individuals. Setting aside some effort to concentrate on your body and not your psyche may help alleviate your tension.Record your considerationsRecording what's creation you restless gets it out of your head and can make it less overwhelming. These unwinding stunts are especially useful for the individuals who experience tension sporadically. They may likewise function admirably with somebody who has summed up uneasiness issue (GAD) when they're stuck a spot as well!Be that as it may, on the off chance that you presume you have GAD, speedy adapting techniques shouldn't be the main sort of treatment you utilize. You'll need to discover long haul procedures to help decrease the seriousness of indications and even keep them from occurring.6 long haul methodologies for adapting to nervousnessOn the off chance that nervousness is a standard piece of your life, it's imperative to discover treatment systems to assist you with holding it within proper limits. It may be a blend of things, similar to talk treatment and contemplation, or it may very well involve removing or settling your tension trigger. In case you don't know where to begin, it's constantly useful to talk about alternatives with an emotional wellness proficient who may recommend something you hadn't thought of previously.Distinguish and figure out how to deal with your triggersYou can distinguish triggers without anyone else or with an advisor. Now and again they can be self-evident, similar to caffeine, drinking liquor, or smoking. Different occasions they can be more subtle.Long haul issues, for example, money related or business related circumstances, may set aside some effort to make sense of — is it a due date, an individual, or the circumstance? This may take some additional help, through treatment or with companions. At the point when you do make sense of your trigger, you should attempt to restrain your introduction on the off chance that you can. On the off chance that you can't restrict it — like if it's because of a distressing workplace that you can't as of now change — utilizing other adapting systems may help.Of all current mental and mental illnesses, uneasiness issue are the most widely recognized influencing over 30% of all grown-ups in the United States. Uneasiness issue are a general classification that incorporates various appearances of tension including:Summed up uneasiness issue (GAD): Excessive tension or stress over an exhibit things, for example, individual wellbeing, work, social associations, and ordinary routine life conditionsExplicit fear: A serious dread or repugnance for explicit circumstances, things or spots that is out of extent to the real risk brought about by the circumstance or item.Social uneasiness: Excessive stress over activities or practices in social or execution circumstances and a dread of feeling humiliated causes those with social nervousness to keep away from social circumstances get-togethers, gatherings or occasions—prompting a sort of willful separation.Frenzy issue: Episodes of serious dread that please rapidly and arrive at their top inside minutes. Assaults can happen startlingly or can be expedited by nervousness or a trigger, for example, a dreaded item or circumstanceNervousness isn't all terrible. Now and again it's a lifeline. It's a developmental quality intended to shield us from raiding creatures and different risks. In a typical measure, tension is a caution framework (raiding monsters) and a helper, the push expected to complete an undertaking on schedule or fulfill a time constraint (what I encountered composing this article). Be that as it may, when nervousness surpasses its benevolent capacity as an impermanent help, when it floods its banks, flooding the brain with lethal contemplations and noxious stresses and monkeying with the body's pressure hormones, destruction follows. A great many years prior, the Buddha depicted the mayhem and devastation of the monkey mind, a state where wild monkeys—musings and fears–crashed into one another making pressure and uneasiness.Nervousness, Mind, and MayhemThat topic persists in Monkey Mind: A Memoir of Anxiety by Daniel B. Smith. Portraying himself as "nervousness represented," Smith states, "Uneasiness constrains an individual to think, yet it is the sort of reasoning that gives thinking a terrible name: solipsistic, self-killing, unremitting, awful. My strolls to treatment, for instance, were gone through sketching out with incredible intelligent exactness the way where my perspective would lead me to finish existential ruin. A normal line of thought went something like this: I am restless. The tension makes it difficult to focus. Since it is difficult to think I will commit an inexcusable error at work. Since I will commit an inexcusable error at work, I will be terminated. Since I will be terminated, I won't have the option to pay the lease."That unbearable, negative reasoning pushes the scholar into a perpetually restless state. Nervousness not just brings forth tension, it additionally causes physical responses.
