I moved to the house that I live at currently in February because my mom is getting remarried, and when I first got here, my room was plain.It had a bed, a bureau, and a very large fake plant that immediately caught my eyes.My goal over quarantine was to make it individualistic and pleasing to the eye, and hundreds of incoherent Pinterest searches later, this is what I’ve come up with.When you walk into my humble abode, you see this:I’ve hung my old ukulele on what used to be where I put my coat, underneath a fake leaf strand (which you will see many more of, I did not realize just how many would come in the package when I ordered them on Amazon).Behind the door, I have a wall of pictures, souvenirs, pictures that I saw online that I liked, and random things that I’ve collected throughout my entire lifetime. If you zoom in, you might even find my profile picture, Lemon Boy!Taking the tiniest step to the right, we have this mirror:This mirror used to be just a mirror, but now, it’s just a mirror with oranges painted on it.Painting these oranges on my mirror was probably the first change I made to my room since I got here, and it was most certainly a start to a very busy, colorful escapade.Moving another tiny tiptoe to the right, you’ll find my unorthodox desk:From my summer work, to a rolled up now wrinkly shirt, to a tiny electronic violin that makes loud noise when its strings are pressed—this desk has everything that I’m too lazy to put somewhere on it.I took on probably the first two weeks of virtual school here before getting lazy and resorting to my bed, and now, I’ve done the minimal amount of summer work that I’ve finished sitting there, too.Moving to the right once more, you’ll find my bureau and TV:For a big shocker, the bureau has clothes in it. From pants to socks to other articles of clothing, you’ll find them in that drawer.The TV was given as a gift from my future stepdad when I moved here, and I use it mostly to listen to music and watch YouTube videos (since there’s no cable).Turn around, and you’ll find my bed:I’m not sure what to say about my bed, other than that I sleep in it and spend a good portion of my life laying in it.On the side of my bed is probably my favorite part of my entire room:On this wall, I printed out a bunch of album covers that I like, and taped them up. It cost nothing other than ink, paper, and tape, and it makes me really happy to look at. Music is a really important part of my life, so I like the fact that my room incorporates it.I also have a messy bedside table, ukulele, hamper, and, most importantly, a vase with a face.I can’t keep a plant alive to save my life, so my friend Ava and I decided to put a face on that vase rather than a live cellular being like a plant, along with a mini baseball hat that I got at a baseball game forever ago. His name is Vasyboi, rightfully so, and he’s a lovely addition to the room.Turn 90 (I think) degrees, and you’ll see this:There’s a door that leads outside in my room, but my mom knows that I’m too innocent and antisocial to ever sneak out.I also have a closet, my figure skating bag on the floor, the very large fake plant that I mentioned earlier, and some medals hanging from skating and Science Olympiad competitions.Finally, on the side of my closet, I have this tiny thing that I made:I have badges from skating levels that I’ve passed (or at least, the ones that I haven’t misplaced) in the middle of two medals I’ve gotten from competitions.I also have some paper butterflies that I printed out and colored in with my brother’s handy dandy crayons, for no reason other than to fill up space.Hopefully you’ve enjoyed your visit to my abode, as it was quite an energy-consuming escapade through the past couple of months.I would say come again soon, but please don’t because it’d be weird and illegal if a bunch of internet strangers suddenly barged into my home.bless í bili,Emma

Here are a couple of things to improve the flag:Get rid of the Union Jack (that cross thing in top left).It is representative of the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) and does nto include any reference to Autralia… thus has no relevance to Australia.One could argue that the Queen is the head of state, but actually, the head of state of Australia is her representative… the Governor General, who is almost always an Australian.Include indigenous recognition on it.There is no indigenous recognition on the flag Instead Australia often has three flags showing at events, The Australian Flag, the Aboriginal flag, and The Torres Strait flag. I’ve been waiting to come across this one in my digest, because I have the perfect answer for it.It comes, unsurprisingly, like my surprisingly popular answer to “What is the most British thing ever?”, from World War II.Late in the Battle of the Bulge, the German High Command authorized Operation Greif (“Griffin”). You may not recognize it by name, but you’ve certainly seen it incorporated into movies and TV shows set in the battle. It was where the German special forces would disguise themselves as Americans, using captured American uniforms and vehicles, in order to create chaos in the rear. Famously, the Americans countered not only by having black soldiers travel with them as much as they could given that the Army was still officially segregated (as everyone knew, there weren’t any black Germans … well, OK, hardly any) and, in a gift to the future pop-culture gods, requiring any unfamiliar faces claiming to be Americans to answer questions about baseball, sometimes trick questions like “What year did Babe Ruth hit 64 home runs?” (This sometimes backfired, like when Brig. Gen. Bruce Clarke was held at gunpoint by a couple of privates because he said the Chicago Cubs were an American League team)But ultimately it backfired on the Germans because … American military IDs had “FOR INDENTIFICATION PURPOSES ONLY” written across the top. Someone in the German special forces back office saw this and could not resist himself when confronted with this undisciplined sloppiness. His forged versions of the American ID card corrected the error. History strongly suggests that it was one of the mines it was laying that blew up as it was being released which sank the sub, but there has long been a story that, realizing the Germans had broken their code, the Royal Navy told one of its minesweepers to just pretend it has successfully cleared the field and send in the signal anyway, luring UC-44 back in to mined waters.This has perhaps been encouraged by what really happened in the aftermath.
