PDF Editor FAQ

Why hasn't a big budget movie version of the Divine Comedy been made?

I don’t know; Hollywood enjoys ruining masterpieces; but I’ll tell you this: that there is no film version of that poem is one of the single best arguments for the existence of a benevolent deity. The executive who greenlights such a project is on a moral par with ISIS.

What are examples of surprisingly low salaries paid to actors in hit movies?

KHAAAAN!Most fans of STII are probably not aware how small a budget the film was made on. Wrath of Khan was produced on a meager $11M budget which was considered way too low for a film requiring intensive digital graphics and special FX. The first Trek film, by comparison, was produced in 1979 on a $35M budget. I share the general consensus that ST The Motion Picture was a vastly inferior movie.Movie studios generally do not disclose actor salaries but it is known that Ricardo Montalban agreed to reprise Khan for only $100K. His intended offer is not known but it’s believed to have been at least $1M of the film’s budget. Shatner was likely handed at least a seven figure paycheck for Kirk. So why did Ricardo agree to play Khan for such a paltry sum? Well, a few reasons.First, he loved the Khan role and was more than glad to have the opportunity to play a villain again after several years of playing the benevolent Mr. Roarke on Fantasy Island. Second, he didn’t really need the money. Third, by this stage in his career Ricardo Montalban was more of a TV and voice actor rather than a big screen star. But he held deep enthusiasm for the film and wanted it to succeed; he essentially donated the bulk of his pay back into the budget to help offset production costs. It was an act of selflessness and charity you would not normally expect from a high profile actor of his stature. Ricardo Montalban was genuinely a class act.

You suddenly lose EVERYTHING… home, money, job and you only have 30 days to save yourself… what exactly would you do from Day 1?

As having a failed business once in my life, I was basically in this situation. I was married, renting, and had $500 in my bank account, which was about half a months rent. This question is a little odd since “saving yourself” is not described. What are we saving ourselves from? Are there dinosaurs released in 30 days? Roaming hit men? I'm just assuming it's eternal destitution. Some things I did at the time and the time leading up to it.Prep mentally. You will be without creature comforts and nice things you once had. Pray, talk to counselors (professional or just wise people in your life), tell your bestie that you need them there for you, calm down and know this is temporary and freaking out will only hurt your efforts.I was living off accounts receivable, so I called people who need me money daily until that ran out. I guess this isn't an option in your scenario though.I looked for a job daily. This was 2009/2010 and the economy sucked. I realized then that looking on Monster (the then popular job board, akin to Indeed is now) was basically useless. Specialty recruiters for my skill set got me a job.I worked a part time job. I sold cars (Acura) because although the hours are long, I often had the day open to interview. Driving for Uber is a good way to go this now if you still have a decent car.I went super lean on expenses. Cheap food made at home. No outside food. No outside coffee. No snacks or sweets at home. Eat at Grandma's several times a week. No entertainment budget. I went for long walks with my wife for entertainment.I relied on church. Taking charity was a hard thing. But my church really pulled through for me. People give supermarket gift cards regularly that the pastors give out to those in need. They also covered my rent for a couple months. This is a small church that I attended for years before this and still attend to this day.Sell stuff. I had a garage full of old text books. We couldn't sell about half, but we made about $1k from the rest. I sold a lot of old stuff, and honestly, it was refreshing not having so much crap around the house.Keep things clean and organized - it's good for the soul. Being in a dirty house drains motivation quickly. My wife kept the house clean so I could work and look for a job, and I appreciate that. Now, you'll realize my life experience had me at a low point, but not absolute zero. If that's the case, here's the action plan I would do, considering that you live in a major urban area of the US.Take care of these, in this order - water, food, shelter, dignity.Family and friends. Your reputation will help you here. If you've been difficult to deal with in the past, you might not squeeze as much juice from this one as you might of had if you were known to be generous before. For those not in this situation now, know that you can be very quickly. Forge good relationships now.Go to churches. Many churches like mine have a benevolence budget. You go in, ask for money and food, and they'll hand you some small amount on the spot along with a date for lunch with the pastor. During lunch, if you have a plan to get off the street, the pastors will often find resources in the church for you. A place to stay, a job, more donations for you (usually supermarket gift cards). Do everything you can to take advantage of these resources. You don't even need to be Christian, but I recommend going to church once as a sign of appreciation.Go to the city/ county. They'll often have places to stay, access to job listings, clothing donations, etc. If you're looking to get off the street, you'll need a job. To get a job, you'll need to be clean and we'll clothed. Often times local government can help, and if they can't, they'll know which charities and churches in the area can help.Find a job. Assuming you have no car and can't drive for Uber, you'll need a low end job at first to meet your immediate needs. If you're a male, go hang out in front of Home Depot in the morning and get some manual labor jobs for immediate cash. The city has listings sometimes. Honestly though, Craigslist is the place to go for temp jobs. If you have musical or entertainment skills, go perform with a donation hat out on a busy area.Keep your integrity. Don't steal, lie, cheat, or hurt others to get ahead. Conversely, help the people around you as you help yourself. It's easy to get into the pity-party that poverty brings. Don't fall for that lie. Money doesn't define you.Keep disciplined. Personal grooming and a clean space keeps your confidence up and frustrations down. It also shows people you're serious about improving your lot. And stay away from temporary pleasures that keep you poor. Smoking, drinking, gambling, cool trends, Starbucks addiction, snacking, whatever drains your finances. Stop. Save. Do something free. I know it sucks, but it's temporary until you have the money to budget this in.I hope this is in line with what you were thinking.Philippians 4:12
