Can a mechanical engineer study aeronautical engineering after completion of his graduation?

Yes you can! Infact I got my Bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering and wrote GATE from Mechanical engg. and then went on to pursue MTech in Aerospace engg. and I am now working in the field of aeronautics. I am just one of the many people in my company who has mechanical engg. background. Mechanical and electrical engineering are considered to be the mother of all other engineering branches and almost all the branches draw something or the other from either of these two branches and sometimes from both the branches like (Mechatronics). The underlying concept of fluid flow ,structures and propulsion in Aerospace engg is the same as it is in Mechanical engineering. Only from the point of fluid mechanics if you take gas dynamics or compressible fluid flow as one of your electives you pretty much cover everything except aircraft design. When I was pursuing my masters a lot of student from Mechanical engg. used to take electives in our department and we used to take electives in Mechanical engg. Interestingly one of my batchmate had civil engg background and he was pursuing aerospace. So I don't think there should be any problem. The only problem you may face though is to get used to the aero terminology. For e.g. in Mechanical engineering we mostly deal with incompressible flows so we have only one definition for thermodynamic properties like Pressure, Temperature etc but since in aeronautics the flow is usually compressible so these properties are defined as stagnation and static quantities. So it took me a while to get used to it because I had no prior exposure to gas dynamics. I hope this answers your question. All the best

What is the best option for a Mechanical Engineer after a Bachelor’s in Engineering?

These are all the things that I have seen my batchmates and seniors do over the years..Get placed at a great core company.. Work hard to slowly rise through the ranks.Get placed at a not so good core company. Work hard to get a job at the above mentioned companies.Get placed at an IT company. Forget that you ever were a mechanical engineer and embrace the world of computers.Give GATE. Land a job in one of the PSUs.Give GATE. Pursue an Mtech (preferably in a college more reputed than your Btech one).Decide that you need to have a 'foren' education. Give GRE and get into a US university.Decide that you want to pursue a career in academics/research/teaching. Give GRE, get a scholarship and get into a five (or more) year integrated MS and PhD program in a reputed college in the US.Sit for CAT. This a cyclic process, remember. Continue doing this until you get a college of your choice or settle down for the one you are getting.Forget everything you have learnt in college and do something radically different, be it starting up, or becoming an author/photographer/musician/....Get a job in any of the companies mentioned in 1 to 3. Get frustrated to no end. Decide that enough is enough. After one or two years, do any of the things from points 4 to 9.And before you do any of these, there is one must do.Compare the packages of Mechanical and Computer Science and curse all your friend/relatives/ any random person who had said that Mechanical is an evergreen branch and urged you to take it.

Can I change my branch after diploma?

Yes you can ! I have a friend of mine who changed his stream from Civil to Electrical, as Civil was not his cup of tea after diploma
