How do I clear the UPSC CAPF by self preparation?

CAPF exam needs properly planned strategy to clear it. I will try to give you clear insight about this exam and what need to be studied for this exam and at the end I'll share my strategy. To clear paper 1 you need to focus on 6 topics these are as follows:History - divided into 3 parts 1. Ancient 2, medieval history 3. Modern history. In history portion main focus should be in modern history.Modern history- spectrumAncient and medieval - Lucent and TN History books.Geography- 9&11 ncert + GC LeongPolity- ncert 11 and lakshmikant (bible for polity)Science (very important forCAPF exam)- 6–10 ncert or general science Lucent.Current affairs- newspaper and gk today website.Economic- 11 and 12 ncert.Maths and reasoning- paramount or kd campus books are enough for this. This is the total content that you have to study for capf exam. Besides these solve previous 5 years questions papers. This will give clear idea about the exam and what type or questions are asked. For paper 2 newspaper reading is must. Make daily notes of the current issue this will help a lot in paper 2 as well as in personality test. For paper 2 , correct format to write report , argument and precis should be known this will fetch marks. Use Simple and grammatical correct English.Practice is very essential part in clearing exam. For paper 1 take test series of vision or vajiram and ravi available on internet in pdf format and evaluate yourself. For paper 2 take online test series.Plan yourself how to study this content. And revision is key. Revise each book atleast 3 time.Hope this will help.Jai hind.

Should a computer based exam or pen and paper based exam be preferred for the IIT JEE Mains? Why? Will the difficulty level and type of questions vary for candidates?

Offline ExamPros:Familiarity with the offline mode and a lot of mock tests you have given used to be in offline mode.No worries about technical glitches as in online exam.Students get to see all the questions in one go.Students get question paper, which can prove to be helpful for cross-check.No strain on eyes.Cons:Time taking process of marking answers in OMR sheet is much more than online mode.Once an answer is marked, you can not change it.You will have to appear in the exam on a pre decided date.Online ExamPros:Questions can be marked for review and answers can be changed at any point of time.less time taken in marking answers and hence more time for solving problems.Candidates can choose their preferred timing and date of the exam according to the slots available as per convenience.Information like number of questions answered, number of questions unanswered, answers marked for review is available on the screen and in different colours which helps in formulating on field strategies.Although minuscule, it is likely that the examination will be conducted in an AC hall. This will be more comfortable in the scorching heat of summersCons:Low experience and less confidence as compared to offline mode. There is always a risk of technical glitches.Question Paper is not given to students for further reference.Looking at the computer screen for 3 hours could be strenuous for eyes. The revision work is very difficult like you wanted to solve a question of Aldol condensation in the last, but you don't remember the question number. You will loose precious time in finding that particular question. This gets worse when you want to recheck the answer of already answered question.I would personally recommend the OFFLINE mode.

What was your preparation strategy for sociology as an optional for UPSC CSE Mains 2016?

I opted Sociology as my optional subject after going through the syllabus, previous years’ question papers, availability of references/coaching and so on. The fact Sociology had a lot in common with General Studies Papers 1 and 2 and it also helps scoring in Essays influenced my decision very much.I will take up the syllabus of Sociology and will explain the strategy that I used to cover the subject and also mention the material I used for reference as I go along. I will also answer other questions that I have received over the past few days.Reading SociologyMany chapters across the papers could be easily related and hence we may group them in order to study the subject efficiently. One can divide the 25 chapters into 8 blocks by clubbing similar topics.Block 1: Paper 1 - chapters 1,2,3Block 2: Paper 1 - chapter 4Block 3: Paper 2 - A1, A2, B3, C6 (each of which are independent)Block 4: Paper 1 - chapters 5,6; Paper 2 - B2, B4Block 5: Paper 1 - chapter 7; Paper 2- C4, C5Block 6: Paper 1 - chapters 8,9; Paper 2 - B5, B6Block 7: Paper 2 - B1, C2, C3Block 8: Paper 1 - chapter 10; Paper 2 - C1, C7Time required to complete the syllabusIt varies from person to person. I have been reading the subject for 2–3 years. Hence it happened that I read a lot of books and have mentioned various reference material. But one can cover the syllabus even without reading all these books. The summary of various books and essays are available across various sites and if you are able to read them and understand the content, then it's fine. Also, completing the syllabus is quite a subjective term. I can still read for another year and gain more understanding on various other perspectives. So, what we can do is to ensure we know something about everything in the syllabus. For doing that, I would guess it would take 3–4 months approximately if you are going to read the subject 4–5 hours everyday. And then to maximise scoring, you need to write tests and revise them again and again.Answer writingThis is a subject where you need to have a decent writing style because there are going to be different perspectives which need to be represented. Hence if you are going to drive your views to the point, you need to practice writing and make your points clear. You can very well use flow charts, representative figures and comparison tables as a part of the answers. I experimented doing these in the mock tests and being a comparatively slow writer, I was able to fill the paper fast using flow charts and tables.CoachingI attended Mrs. Rajitha’s classes at Shankar IAS Academy, Chennai. The classes gave me a definite direction to approach the subject as I was relatively new to the subject after college. Listening to the classes and taking notes brought in familiarity to the subject faster than reading. There were notes for almost every chapter that had more than a gust of what is to be read. I found the mock test discussions extremely helpful and that was crucial in building up the tempo towards the Mains Exam.A few of you have asked me whether coaching is definitely required. It's up to you to decide on that and if you feel you can use online resources effectively and can do it from the comfort of your homes through reading books, you definitely can.A few of you have also asked me to compare coaching classes. I have absolutely no idea about other coaching classes and academies. So I don't think I will be able to make a comparison here. What to do in the four months after Prelims?Draw a plan. Analyse chapters where you are strong and work hard on areas you are not comfortable with. If possible, enroll in a mock test series. If not, take up old question papers and practice answers to those questions. Analyse your answers after the exam and look for ways to enrich them if you are going to write them again. As you read for each chapter, note down the thinkers’ names that come under each topic. Also mention the names of famous case studies if any. And make various columns for each thinker/ sociologist where you are going to make hints of the concepts the person has discussed. This will help you in the one day break that you have before the Sociology exam.I scored 140 in Paper 1 and 153 in Paper 2 in Mains 2016 (119 and 110 in Mains 2015 - I went easy on Paper 2).My strategy definitely worked wonders for me. But it is going to be a little different for others. The trick is to find what works for you. I'll be glad to clarify if you have further doubts.Note: I am sorry to say that it will not be possible to share my notes. That is because most of my notes are filled with hints and mnemonics that only I can understand and more importantly, only when you are going to make them, they are going to be of help to you.

Wish it were cheaper but it is a really nice app. I wouldn't say it's super easy to learn how to use but once you get it, it's very convenient.
