Be open and honest about why you are deciding to transfer and why you NEED to transfer. Well, here is a sample mini-transfer personal statement:“My reason for wanting to transfer arises from a desire to search for those people I really fit in with. I have had a fine experience at my college so far; I enjoy my classes and have made many friends, but something is missing. I yearn for that intellectual challenge surrounded by students who inspire me to be great. I have tried to make this school right for me and search for potential lifelong friends. Typically, the supplement asks, "Why Our School?"You really need to have a great answer for that question. These two essays (the personal statement and supplement) are very similar, but there is an important distinction between the two. The personal statement needs to show who you are through a story and explain why you, as you are, want to transfer or did not belong at your former school (as I did above in the example). On the other hand, the supplement needs to explain for what academic reason do you want to transfer.Here is the personal statement prompt for all UC Schools such as UC Berkeley and UCLA, "Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?" Again, the focus is on you and your uniqueness, why you as you are, don't fit in at your school. What personal reason do you have for transferring? Were you at a school that was too small for you? Too big? Did you not fit in with the students at that school? Did you visit a friend at Notre Dame and realize you fit in there? Here is the transfer supplement prompt for all UC Schools such as UC Berkeley and UCLA, "What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement." The focus here is more on the institute you are applying to. Why do you want to go to that school and study that major? What academic reason do you have for transferring? Did you realize your passion for fashion journalism and NYU has a top journalism program in a city where you could intern at fashion magazines? Try to answer both prompts as specifically as you can. Do not be general or vague.BAD for supplement essay: I want to attend Yale because your school is better than my school.GOOD for supplement essay: I want to transfer to NYU because I have discovered my passion for fashion journalism through my fashion blog that has 100,000 subscribers. My school has no journalism program, and NYU’s is the best program for fashion journalism in the country. I know NYU would help me achieve my dream of becoming editor of a fashion magazine.TranscriptsIn addition to the personal statement and supplement, you will need to provide a transcript from your high school (just as you did for college applications) and a transcript from your college. If you are applying from a 2-year school with a completed Associate’s degree, your transcript from college must show all of your grades and that your Associate’s was received. If you are applying after completing 1 semester at a 4-year university, you cannot send in your transcript until you receive your first semester grades, so that the school can take those grades into consideration. Hopefully, your transcript looks slightly more official. Note: Do not give up on your classes at your current school when you decide to transfer. These grades are EXTREMELY important. If you get B’s at your school and are applying to a more competitive and academically challenging school, the admissions officer may question how you will do at their school. You also cannot give up on your classes once you submit your application.Mid-Year ReportThe Mid-Year Report is a grade report you send to the schools you are applying to in the middle of the spring semester (typically April 1). From the UPenn Admission Office, “you will need to print out the form, available through the Common Application, and ask each of your professors to provide a mid-term grade (the grade they would give you if they were to give you a grade at that point in the class) and a signature.”In the report, all of your CURRENT spring semester professors fill out a paper predicting your FUTURE grade in the class and have to sign off on it. You read that right. You have to ask your spring semester teachers to give you a grade prediction and to sign off on it. This can be extremely intimidating, but again is another important part of your application.Again, this is why you CANNOT slack off in your classes at your current school. You need to get the best grades possible to better your chances to transfer. Try to form close relationships with your spring semester teachers. They will be much more willing to slightly inflate your grade (A- to A) on this prediction report if you are an active participant in class and if they like you. Trust me, these professors will be willing to slightly inflate your grade on this sheet to help you transfer if they like you, as this is not guaranteeing what they write will be your actual grade. Again, you cannot give up on your classes at your current school when you decide to transfer. If you got A’s first semester and B’s on your mid-year report, the admissions office may question how you will fair at their school. They do also consider SAT or ACT Scores.SAT or ACT ScoreSome schools may not require you to send these scores, but most universities do require transfers from other 4-year colleges to send their SAT or ACT scores. If you are applying from a 2-year school with a completed Associate’s degree, some schools require you to submit your SAT or ACT score while many others don’t.You should find the university’s policy on SAT/ACT scores for transfers when you search for the school’s application requirements. Again, to find a school’s specific requirements, search “[College Name] Transfer Application.”For students applying from 4-year universities, your SAT/ACT score will definitely play a role into whether or not you are accepted, but it is not weighted as heavily as in freshman admissions. When you applied as a freshman, the admissions officers didn’t know how you would do at a 4-year university, so they used your score as a measure of that. However, now they have your college grades and can see how you are performing at a 4-year university. If you have straight A’s in all of your biomedical engineering classes at University of Florida but got a 30 on your ACT, the A’s seem very impressive and make the 30 less meaningful. Should you retake the SAT/ACT if you are applying to transfer?You can, but I would only recommend it in certain situations. Your SAT/ACT score is only valid for 5 years, so if your score is older than 5 years, you will be required to retake it. To decide if you should retake the SAT or ACT, find out the 25th/75th percentile scores for current students at the school you are applying to. The 25th/75th percentile scores means that 25% of the students attending have a score at or below that number (this is below average). 75th percentile means that 75% of students have a score at or below that number. In essence, the 25th/75th percentile covers the middle 50% of all students admitted to the school.If you score at the 75th percentile for any school and have great grades from your current college, you have a great chance at getting in. If you're at the 25th percentile, you'll need to have a strong application to boost your odds of getting in.To find the 25th/75th percentile scores for current students at the school you are applying to, search “[College Name]” freshman admission profile” or “[College Name]” ACT” or “[College Name]” SAT”Let’s say, you are applying to transfer to an Ivy (most 25th/75th percentile scores between 34-36 ACT or 750-800 on all sections of the SAT). As I said, your grades are more meaningful than your test score on your transfer application, but that being said if your grades are not perfect (A’s and B’s) with a test score below 31 on ACT or below 2100 on SAT, I would consider re-taking the test to try to improve your score and improve your chances of being admitted.If your college grades are all A’s and your score is within the school’s 25th/75th percentile score, you do not need to retake the SAT or ACT.Letters of RecommendationMost schools require that you submit at least 2 letters of recommendation from COLLEGE professors or teaching assistants. Some schools prefer the letters to come only from professors and NOT teaching assistants such as UPenn, who said, “The Admissions Selection Committee prefers to review recommendations from professors. We encourage you to meet with your professors and ask for recommendations. However, we understand that some classes may be too large for a professor to write a detailed, personalized recommendation for you. If you ask a teaching assistant to write your recommendation, the class professor MUST sign off on the written recommendation.” Hopefully, your recommender is a little more expressive. You will find a school’s policy on letters of recommendation when you search for the transfer application requirements. You are NOT supposed to reuse your letters of recommendation from your high school teachers. You need new letters from college professors or teaching assistants.Make sure you are forming relationships with your professors and teaching assistants. You need them to like you enough to be willing to write you a letter of recommendation. Go to their office hours! Participate in class! Study! You need their help. If they don’t have a relationship with you, your letter will most likely turn out pretty mediocre. Find out by searching for the specific program you are applying to, search “[College Name] [program] Transfer Application” such as USC Film Transfer Application. Make sure to also check the deadline for your program. Now that we have covered all components of the application, let’s talk deadlines:Application DeadlinesSchools have transfer application deadlines ranging from December 1 to March 1 for Fall admits or November for Spring admits. When you search for the school’s specific requirements (search “[College Name] Transfer Application”), you will find the deadline. Again, make sure to also search for the specific program you are applying to, search “[College Name] [program] Transfer Application.” Oftentimes, arts programs (theatre, film, dance) will have earlier deadlines than the general university transfer deadline.Make sure to create a schedule for yourself working back from the timeline. I recommend completing the first drafts of your personal statement and supplement at least one month before the application deadline, so you have time to review and rewrite. Ask teachers to write letters of recommendation at least 2 months in advance of when the application is due. Send transcripts and scores as soon as possible. Check the transfer requirements to see when the last available ACT or SAT testing date is. According to Yale, “Scores from the February ACT or the March SAT test date should reach [the admissions office] in time for consideration,” but this may vary from school to school, so check the schools you are applying to. Once you submit your application, your journey is not over.Decision Letters and Making the Decision to Transfer or StayYou will receive your decision letters typically in Mid-May for Fall Admission. You typically have only a few weeks to make a final decision. Before making the decision to transfer, consider thisWill transferring make you happier?By transferring, will you be more likely to achieve success in your chosen field?If you need financial aid, will you receive financial aid?Will you be able to complete your degree on time? How many of your units will transfer? How many of your units will count towards your degree? Will you need to spend extra time and money to complete your degree?Most schools only let you transfer up to 2 years of credit, so if you applied to transfer in your junior year, you will most likely be restarting as a junior at the next school. Are you okay with that?I also recommend creating a pros and cons list for your current school and the school your were accepted to. I know it may sound old-hat, but it works! Once accepted, you want to make sure transferring is the best decision for you. Remember that when you transfer, it may take time to make friends at your new school. Try to get involved and go to school sponsored events to help meet people and make your transition easier.Another PrepScholar writer transferred schools, and she said at times it can feel at first like being a stepchild or like being someone who married into the family. Going away to college is stressful for many kids (and, yes, parents, too). Creating a new life away from home can be daunting, and stress is normal. Learning new academic and living norms is difficult for many. And it’s completely natural for freshmen to come home and regress. They may sleep a lot and ask you to do things you haven’t done for years. That is fine. You may be doing loads of laundry and taking them to lots of doctors’ appointments.And in that pool, some kids come home believing they made the wrong college choice. And that is entirely possible for 10 to 20% of them. The larger majority of others need some love and understanding.In Chinese, the word for crisis also means opportunity. So as you talk with unhappy your college freshmen, please remind them that no matter what you will help them make a plan. This crisis can turn into a great opportunity to think about what makes your student truly happy. A psychiatrist friend of mine who is an expert with teenagers said that parents (and counselors) need to be as supportive as possible but also try to distinguish between real depression and situational challenges. Some kids do need professional help and a visit to your doctor or therapist may be a great first step.I field several calls each winter holiday break from confused college freshmen. I listen to what is making them unhappy, and I often hear patterns. They didn’t like their original choices and are now attending what they consider to be a safety college. They did not like their fall classes and did not do as well as they could. They don’t like their roommates, or they are not very active on campus. Some truly dislike the type of college they selected, while others are bored.So after I listen, I begin to talk to them about the need to have short and long term goals. I remind them that unfortunately transferring during and after freshmen year means that they must be doing the best they have ever done academically and be involved on and off campus. It is often a junior-senior year of high school redux — often with much less support.That is often a challenge for an unhappy freshman. But tough words are critical. Also I remind them that as freshmen they traditionally can only transfer into schools that they would have gotten admitted to or did get admitted to as seniors. If they reject that option, I remind them that transferring may take two application cycles. Most colleges that accept larger numbers of transfers like USC and the University of Southern California take larger numbers of junior transfers.As I speak to kids after I listen to their worries, I help them develop short terms strategies which help them two ways: they help build up their transfer profiles and more importantly help them become happier. When the world is falling, small steps really help. When speaking to a young man who is desperately unhappy at his college, I realized he had higher expectations than reality. I reminded him that a low fall GPA would limit his chances of transferring and told him that colleges will look at his senior year grades and his active involvement on his current campus. No transfer college wants excuses, so I explained that the excuses have to stop.Listening to him, I felt his isolation. He had taken large lecture classes and got involved with a few clubs that rarely met. He wasn’t exercising and many of the friends he had met transferred out for spring. So I told him he needed to start over. He needed to take smaller classes, classes that counted as major prerequisites or GE requirements. He needed to get involved with some active clubs. I listened to what he liked to do and noticed he wasn’t exercising, so I recommended getting involved with intramural basketball or soccer. Many physically active kids in high school stop exercising in high school as they are no longer part of formal teams. Exercising often makes them feel so much better.I also told him about special service learning classes at his college, where he could get involved with community service activities with small groups of students. I also told him to go to office hours and to get to know several professors as he would need a professor recommendation.I also gave him several short term tasks to perform over the holidays. That gave him a focus and set him going. He needed to organize his transcripts — both high school and college so they could be sent out. He needed to contact his high school counselor to find out what he or she could do to help and how to get forms completed. I also had him collect all the transfer requirements of each college on his list — transcripts, letters of recommendation, high school forms, standardized grades, mid-term instructor updates, and required essays. I also told him to get an immediate internship over the winter break and to get think of how he was going to spend his summer. I kept him so busy that I felt his mood immediately improve.The longer term goals come out over time. They need to think about what happens if they don’t get into their desired colleges the first time they apply as transfer students. Do they want to take a leave of absence from their current college and return home sophomore year to take classes? Do they need to take summer classes to build up their GPAS? What courses do they need to take to prepare for transferring in as a transfer? What ongoing activities can they participate in and what internships, community service, or jobs can they get? Colleges expect engaged, active transfer students who can immediately begin their majors and get involved immediately on campus. One caveat I give them is that joining a fraternity or sorority is great for many reasons, but once they join a Greek society, they must join that Greek society at their transfer college (Greek rules).As I was speaking to one young lady last year, I explained that she needed to get high grades and take classes that prepared her to transfer. That got her involved in classes related to her major, and then she realized that she wanted to narrow her major focus. I also told her to meet her professors during office hours as she needed to get some letters of recommendations, and she began doing some research for a professor. I also told her to get involved in activities. She opted to join a sorority and write for the school newspaper. She two internships over the summer and winter breaks and built up a great resume. She spent the break doing an internship and her applications. She made a large group of friends and realized that she could be happy at the college, but she would outgrow the offerings for her major. Transferring, therefore, makes sense. And she is a much stronger candidate than when we first met.In conclusion, preparing to transfer is a bear and requires lots of upfront planning. Also while working with these kids, they often decide to stay where they are. Some discover becoming a visiting student at a campus, which can serve as a nice introduction to a campus they want to transfer to.The most important thing I do is provide a supportive realty check. I listen to what has made them unhappy, and I try to present a way for them to try one more semester. If they can’t, then I tell them we can try to help them transfer, and if necessary, take a leave of absence while returning home to go to community college. Then they need a really strong transfer plan as community college is a much tougher place to get required courses than ever. There is no reason for an unhappy kid to stay at a very expensive college, when he or she sees no reason to stay. But sometimes there are great reasons for a kid to stay and give a college a real chance.Crises often do turn into great opportunities for students. They can see what they really want from a college. They can see how to get involved in a new community, and they can learn so much more about what they are capable of doing. Most importantly they need to stay active and the short and long term planning lead to many happy outcomes.P.S. Boyfriend or girlfriend transfers are completely different. If a kid leaves a college for a partner, then something is truly wrong as partners should want the best for their significant others. So if your child wants to do a boyfriend transfer, I usually refuse to help, but I do tell parents to make sure their kids take a leave of absence because break-ups do occur.Below are the tips I give to students and their families with unhappy college freshmen if they can’t imagine staying any longer than necessary at their current college.1. Prior acceptances — Are you willing to consider a college you got into senior year? If that is the case, then contact the college and see if they will make you re-apply. Some won’t. Others will make you re-apply, but you have a good chance, especially if you follow these steps as well.2. Senior year grades — Your senior year grades must be top notch to transfer into any college as a sophomore. I hope your second semester grades were really high.3. Deadlines. Sophomore fall, Sophomore spring, Junior fall — These are the most common times to transfer. The closer to high school, the more high school and test scores count. Early applicants most likely will not get into any college you couldn’t have gotten in while in high school your first year. Transferring as a junior is much easier. Each college has different deadlines so keep track of them.4. Post senior year and freshmen summers — You need to have done or do something — work, volunteer, service, etc.5. Freshman and sophomore years of college — You need to do all of the following —a. Academics- You need to excel in each and every class. That’s hard to do when you’re not happy, but you must.b. Professors- You need to connect with one or two professors who can write letters of recommendation for you. You need to explain that you will outgrow major or need to be closer to home. Don’t blame your original college.c. Engagement- You need to get involved in activities on and off campus. So use your winter break to do volunteer or work. Go back second semester and get busy.d. Prerequisites- Each college has different transfer requirements. Some take sophomore fall applicants. Some only take juniors. Some have major prerequisites for GE and for majors. So check. Each has different requirements fori. Testingii. Units completediii. High school transcripts and counselor formsiv. College dean formsv. Instructor formsvi. Essays. You need to really write great essays about why you want to transfer. Be specific and contact us for essay tips.6. Applications — Applications vary but are critically important.i. Common Application- Many colleges use the Common Application which has one essay. But remember supplements-they have them too. The application is the only online portion. Everything is else is hard copy.ii. Other universities have their own applications.7. Visit colleges — You ideally need to visit the colleges to which you plan to transfer. Ideally visit during the spring or summer. But if you can’t, contact them via email. Talk with students there and really research the academic programs there — that’s the core reasoning for your transferring process.8. Research visiting programs — Many colleges allow students to attend as a visiting student. Barnard is one college that has a great transfer program (women only). Sometimes that’s a back door into the college. Then you apply to transfer. Some don’t allow students who applied before to apply. Some do.9. Give your original college a chance — If you can’t, you need to lead a double life and be as successful as you possibly can. If you can’t, then let us know about our transfer tips if you decide to come home and attend a community college. Never criticize your original college to officials at the original college. Tell them you need to move closer to home or have found a college that meets your major requirements.10. My boss calls me to his office and appeals/asks to me to assist someone he promoted over me to succeed because "he knows I am capable" is it an indirect way of asking me to leave?

No! That actually happened to me. One of our directors brought in her friend and requested me to report to her. The newly appointed lady worked in a completely different branch of the bank and had no idea of our operations. On her first day she apologized to me stating that she was aware that I was due for promotion but my employer decided to appoint her on a lateral move. Her salary would remain the same but she will rely heavily on my assistance and input. The director told her that she was in good hands because I was loyal, knowledgeable and reliable. I saw this as an opportunity to use to the best of my ability. I told her that I was prepared to assist her with her work on condition that I receive not one but two annual increases. My appraisal should afford me the maximum allowable increase. She agreed to those conditions and I worked my butt off holding two positions. My two year old daughter was neglected because I left home at 6am and returned at 9pm for six days in a week. My late mother who was still alive then, took care of her for the two years that I worked this shift. I saved all my overtime, increases and bonuses to pay for my daughters private school education. When a business opportunity arose I applied for it and my new boss gave a good recommendation.Today I run a successful business with my previous employer as my main client. All in all it worked out well for me because when I look back I accumulated much more wealth than she ever earned in her senior position. It could be that your boss had no say over this appointment and that it was merely a cost cutting exercise.My ex boss (newly appointed over me) marveled at the success of my business and shared the details with her husband. He was inspired and decided to start his own business. He was one of three directors at one of the major stationery suppliers who resigned to start up their own business venture to compete with their employer. A year later he complained that he was doing all the work (karma) and they were receiving an equal portion of their profits. He broke away from that business to start up his own one man business. His new business failed in less than one year and was liquidated. The business that he broke away from remained successful and is still operational today. At the same time that he started his business, his wife (my ex boss) retired to take care of her grandchild. Work pressure was too much for her. She worked for over forty years at the bank and her pension was a handsome amount. That amount of retirement fund could’ve lasted her until her death. Both her and her husband are destitute and unemployed now. I cannot understand why they are desperate today, unless her attractive pension package was used to start up her husband’s business. I really care deeply about her and tried finding her but she moved far away. I hear all kind of negative comments about her financial ruins and wish there was a way I could help her.Today, my then two year old daughter is twenty four years old. She is studying in Germany at private educational institutions. She passed her final exams during June 2020 and is qualified as a medical doctor. Her graduation ceremony was one month later. She intends practicing medicine in Germany. Her two options are radiology or oncology. She applied for both these positions and her initial, virtual interview is due soon. This will be the first of many interviews and God willing she will succeed. My business made it possible to afford private European education during high school and college. Although Germany provide free tertiary education she was told to wait for 6 years because there were many other students before her with higher grades that wanted to become doctors. Meanwhile she was not allowed to enroll in any other course at university. Each person is allowed one free course only. She opted to enroll at a private medical school. After completing her first year she received a letter stating that she qualified for enrollment but had to repeat year one. By now she had a relationship with her boyfriend who was at the same college and she declined the offer. She continued at her current university paying high fees. Her younger sister is studying to become an Accountant in California. Both my children come home twice a year. We have an excellent relationship. Our family is in the process of emigrating to the U.S. through an investment visa but unfortunately my then two year old daughter renounced her U.S. green card. She wasn’t allowed a reentry permit allowing her to complete her studies. She was going to her final year and wasn’t prepared to abandon her studies. She opted to complete her medical studies in Europe and apply for a blue card which is similar to a Green Card but issued to people providing critical shortage skills in Europe. Her boyfriend is German and studies medicine as well. That could be another contributing factor why she opted to remain in Europe. All of this wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t humble myself and assist my then boss. Today I am proud to announce that not even COVID-19 could prevent her from realizing her dream. She qualified on June 30 as a medical doctor. She was very emotional because she was afraid that COVID could potentially shatter her dream. Her graduation ceremony will be in July and will be done virtually. What a pity that we are unable to share this glorious moment with her. Incidentally, long before COVID, she decided to become a pulmonologist. She felt that patients were leading unhealthy lifestyles and smoke. The air that we breathe in is impure. For that reason the demand for pulmonologists were on the increase. COVID added to that need. I know not everybody will be happy for me but I’m a super proud mom who has a daughter that graduated as a medical doctor in a foreign language like German! What an achievement!As a matter of interest I want to share her linguistic experience with you. As a foreigner who has no links to that language (German) she excels but most people do not believe that she is not German. Instead of complimenting her on mastering the foreign language, she is seen by most people as a German who speaks German with grammatical errors. When in fact she should have been complimented for her remarkable achievement. Although English is her mother tongue, she excels in German and states that even her dreams are in German. Her spoken English is excellent but written is not as good as her German because her entire education was in German. She participates in English debates to maintain her English skills. For the studies she watched English YouTube topics. This was to her disadvantage because when she erroneously mentioned a person’s name in English not German, the answers were marked wrong. However she feels that she has an advantage because she is able to speak several different languages.I want to conclude by saying if your boss really values you and want you to carry the person he appointed higher than you, he has to let you know what’s in it for you. Remember I named my price and it was agreed to. If there’s nothing in it for you, then it would be only lip service about how valuable you are. Your capabilities should amount to something. Challenge him to see how sincere he is. If he values you, he could give you a small increase as a token of his appreciation.I thoroughly enjoyed the work I was doing. In our industry this was a rare position for a non-graduate. I worked in the legal department of a blue chip bank: a highly sought after position. The experience I gained in that department was a pre requisite for the business I started when I left that position. In addition to that I met my business partner who was an admitted attorney while doing that work. I believe that my humility during my boss’s appointment produced way more rewards than resigning and switching jobs would’ve done. Besides that, I wasn’t guaranteed to receive another position in the legal department. Today I am an “unqualified”attorney (based on knowledge only not ability to act in legal capacity) who audited attorneys books because she was unable to. I was fascinated with the facts I learnt whilst auditing. Most of the debtors feel that they’ve been ripped off after a sale in execution. That entire process involves a lot of costly procedures. First the sheriff has to go out to give an assessment of what he values the debtors belongings. This assessment is then returned to the creditors who has to decide whether it will be worth their while to proceed with the attachment. The sheriff has to be paid to go out and do this assessment. If there are only basic essentials like a bed and a fridge, the sheriff will send a “nulla bona” return. This means that there is nothing worth attaching. With that return the attorneys must do a garnishee order. In the case of a garnishee order I had to ensure that not more than 40% of a debtors salary is attached. Where the goods had to be attached for the sale, the sheriff had to place an advertisement about the auction for at least a week in the local newspapers. This is another expense that has to be paid from the sale. The goods had to be transported to storage and transport costs has to be paid. In addition to this he had to find a place to store the goods. Storage has to be paid out of the proceeds of the sale. On the day of the auction an auctioneer must be appointed and paid. After paying all these parties there’s very little left. As part of my audit I had to ensure that the debtor isn’t charged for negligible actions. Paralegals would be too lazy to check the distance to the sheriffs office and issue documents to the wrong jurisdiction. This action had to be redone and sent to the correct jurisdiction. The sheriff was laid fir the first service. It was my responsibility to ensure that debtors were not charged for mistakes and fees had to be adjusted.I remember notifying one attorney that his fees were excessively incorrect. His response was “do you know who I am. I own a private jet and a Ferrari. How dare you dispute my fees. After a disciplinary hearing where the head of legal was present, he was removed from the panel. He was working for 5 years and the bank never received any income from him. He was being paid for work that meant nothing to the bank. I introduced contingency commissions where attorneys were paid a fixed commission only. I marveled at the thought of this introduction only to find out it was an age old tradition. How immature of me to think that I could introduce something new to the legal practice. Nowadays only qualified attorneys can fill that position. I was truly blessed to have been given this rate opportunity.This really boosted my growth more than I could imagine. I gained extensive legal knowledge and experience that I can apply in my daily life. I’m eternally grateful for the experience I gained whilst working with her. I must admit she was a humble person who gave credit where credit was due. Whenever I excelled she acknowledged and rewarded me.Fast forward: During COVID both my daughters graduated. My eldest daughter who renounced her U.S green card, attended her graduation where no attendees were allowed but a virtual copy was recorded. I was humbled by her achievement. At the young age of 24, she became a qualified medical doctor in Europe. Her graduation was on July 28,2020. Immediately after the graduation she applied for 2 medical positions in Germany and was accepted at both hospitals. The one position was in the area she wanted to work because it was close to relatives and friends. They were looking for an oncologist. She’s sensitive and witnessing so many people die, scared her. The second position she applied for was in a smaller town for the position of a radiologist. She was accepted and required to start immediately. Her work permit and visa is taking longer than expected and as at September 20th, she’s still waiting for a it to book her Online appointment with the embassy (COVID related. Her future boss told her to expect to work overtime as the work is piling up. She’s excited about this position because they offered her a five year contract whereas all other positions allow only a one year contract. The idea of having to reapply for a work permit every year is mind boggling. She started her employment early November 2020. The medical program in Europe requires each doctor to occupy a position for six months before moving onto the next position. Since she was supposed to start in August, her program is delaying incoming interns. She’s currently working in the X-RAY department. She will be moving to the CAT scan department. After five years and having covered all departments in the radiology departments, she will become a qualified radiologist. She’s extremely happy in her new position.Her sister who is three and a half years younger than her, graduated with an undergraduate degree in Accounting in California but her graduation ceremony was canceled. She completed her degree in three years instead of four by increasing her coursework and doing CLEP exams to fulfill her requirements. Doing the CLEP exams instead of in class teaching had its advantages as well as disadvantages. She was able to complete her degree one year earlier and as a result she will be earning an extra years income. The disadvantage is that all her classes that she felt highly confident in, she enrolled online which reduced the GPA since only in class courses were graded and online courses only provided credits. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Accounting program while simultaneously studying for her CPA exams. By the grace of God, she has two job offers and was given two weeks to sign a contract. This is a difficult decision to make because one is in her ideal location, near the beach, good weather with many people in her age group, while the other one is a big firm with possible rapid advancement. One of her positions offered her an internship position. This position is in Laverne and they are telling her that she’s a full time intern. Once her internship is over, she will be starting her full time position. This business wants her to complete 40 hours a week while studying full time for her Masters degree. She only has another semester left to complete her MAcc degree. Thus business took very long to get back to her. After three interviews she didn’t hear from them and received another full time offer. As soon as she signed that contract in the scenic spot, tge internship and full time offered was on offer. She’s currently working as an intern where she negotiated her hours down to thirty hours. It’s going to be tough but she will make her final decision upon completing her internship. Incidentally, the company where she’s employed as an intern opened up a branch in the scenic beach area. That’s another option to consider.What’s interesting though is that both my daughters graduated in 2020. My eldest daughter is employed as a trainee radiologist in Germany while my youngest daughter has an internship in an accounting firm in California. Their salaries are strikingly similar except for the foreign currencies. My youngest daughter was told by her employer that she would be earning six digit figures once she passes her CPA board exams. However, it is all relevant because the cost of living is high in California with unaffordable housing for most of the people. The only expense in Germany is health insurance which is high for foreigners. Health care for EU citizens are free. All in all, the U.S pay high salaries which is associated with the high cost of living.Please don’t regard this as bragging. I’m merely trying to point out how that important decision not to resign, enriched my family’s life. All glory be to God.My employer wasn’t in the United States. If you got into UCB, UCLA, or USC, what were your stats class of 2024?

I got into USC, waitlisted by Berkeley, and rejected by UCLA, although if I could pinpoint a fault in my UC application that contributed to the waitlist and rejection, then I know what happened that I didn't put in my UC application that I did put on my common app, but I'll share that later. (Hint it has to do with a course I forgot to mention)General stats:GPA: 4.12 W, 3.81 UW. Ranked #12 out of 587 students. I was actually doing fine around my sophomore year with a 4.15 W and #6 at one point, but then I started bolstering my computer programming interests by programming more and going to hackathons, neglecting my classwork responsibilities as a result. I got one C in AP Lang and like 3 B's my first semester junior year, which practically ended me, in spite of getting a 4.67 GPA second semester Junior year. The lowest I ever dipped was rank #27 with a 3.86 W, not proud of that.SAT: 1480 (750 English / 730 Math, 20 essay). I only took it once because that's all the fee waiver covered from my school. It didn't even cover the essay portion, so I have to pay for that too!SAT Subject tests: None. Fee waiver didn't cover that too! I did write this information on my common app and UC's explaining my circumstance, and even got a SAT Subject test fee waiver for Cal Tech, but looking back, I had no proof of demonstrating my academic strength in Math and Science.AP:AP Lang (4), AP United States History (4), AP Environmental Science (3), AP World History (2) (it was my first one lol). Currently taking AP Biology, AP Spanish Literature, AP European History, AP English Literature, AP Government. Self-studying for AP Computer Science principles.Dual Enrollment:Basically, we could take any course at our nearby community college, and I exploited this by taking courses that intrigued me. In hindsight it was a great idea, but it did take away from my high school course load time. I visited UPenn and the city overall for like two hours.I worked hard on becoming a A+ certified IT Technican and I passed the test, making me a certified IT Technican early on my Junior year. Anyone wanna hire me?USC Bovard Scholar: I just stayed at USC for three weeks pretty much.UC Berkeley summer program for underrepresented scholars: I took a course there, and I also kinda ditched to visit Berkeley and San Francisco. I was willing to go as far as Stanford, but I realized that it would've been another hour on the Bart train and I was too lazy to go alone lol.UCLA academic writing boot camp: There wasn't a lot of writing as there was me going to this pool by my dorm and walking around the city of Westwood.Teaching kids how to code at our local library.Working with Circuit boards, not so much a extracurricular, but definitely bolstered my Computer Hardware interests.Teaching kids how to use Raspberry Pi's after school. Again, not so much a extracurricular, but it was cool showing students how to emulate console games and create a Wi-Fi range extender.Union Rescue mission: I helped homeless people during the summer. At first, I just needed something to take my mind off personal circumstances that were going on with my family. After joining for two weeks, I grew a bond with the homeless people. It definitely became a goal for me to help them to my best extent, seeing as how they were struggling to just get a roof under their heads.Honorable Mentions:I almost got the opportunity to do research at UC Irvine on nanotechnology. Don't ask me why nanotechnology, or why they told me last minute that the professor couldn't anymore, but I didn't think too much on it until I started applying for colleges.I was emailed by UChicago because I was being considered for summer program for the past summer but being the dumb person I am, I never checked my emails and I didn't see it until I actually applied for UChicago and it came up as I got my portal email. Our #4 ranked peer actually went and she said she had lots of fun.I got the opportunity to do an internship for the past summer; at the Norwalk district 32 government office. I declined it because I didn't think doing a politics / government internship would've helped me as a CS / CE major.Awards:Science Olympiad 1st place Code Busters state finalist. I basically carried my friend on this one lol.A bunch of other Science Olympiad regional / local awards.Four Hackathon winner awards. I basically got carried on one, but one the rest, I guess my patents were good enough. I got personally congratulated by the host of one of the hackathons.Top Student award Freshmen and Sophomore year. My common app was basically on how I almost executed my own suicide because of being autistic.I go to a low-income school who generally sends around five to eight students to top 20 schools a year. We're by no means a feeder school, just that our top students are extremely good academically. We've sent students to MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, albeit at extremely marginal increments.Essays:My common app was basically on how I almost executed my own suicide because of stereotypical connotation that's associated with being autistic, and how that contributed to severe depression building up, but afterwards I took that past adversity to help those that are going through the same things that I did, hence why I created a Autism awareness club at my school.The specific school essays were based on why Computer Science intrigued me, what I wanted to pursue, and how the respective schools would've complemented and bolster my aspirations.For my UC's, two of my questions were based on technology and programming, and the other two were based on my life circumstances and how I grew from them.Letters of recommendation:Side note, UC Berkeley asked for the two optional letters of recommendation.My counselor’s was such a great one! She supported me when I did Autism awareness fundraisers. She knew my older sister as well!My AP Biology, AP Environmental Science and Pre-Calc teachers letter of recommendation were probably good too, but most likely not as great as my counselor's.Results:Unless you already read my “credentials,” you'll know that I will commit there since it's the only school out of the three that I got into.So do you guys know what I might have done to mess up my UC application? If you read through my courseload, you might already know which one it is.*Drum roll* Physics for Engineers!A bit of background: Our High school physics teacher sucks, so I had no intentions of enrolling in Physics. After I submitted my UC application, I discovered that I had to take physics for Engineering consideration. So in a impulsive decision, I enrolled in Physics for my Spring semester. By the time I enrolled, I wrote it down on my common app, which USC saw. But when I tried emailing UCLA and Berkeley on the change, they wouldn't get it! I called and I kept getting redirected to other lines within the school. I thought it was so stupid that I wasn't able to update any information directly through the portal, when other school's portal I was able to!!! I'm positive that UCLA never even got that information update, resulting in the rejection since I applied to Computer Engineering. I probably only got waitlisted for Berkeley since I applied as a Computer Science major, and they probably overlooked my lack of Physics for my large history of programming and coding.Either way, I couldn't be happier to become a trojan this fall! I'm glad that holistic review took place in my favor at USC, since I definitely wouldn't have gotten in with my GPA!If my synopsis demonstrates anything, it's that GPA does matter to a large extent, and you'd definitely want to have as many A's as possible and maybe have at least a equivalent of a 4.3 GPA for full consideration and interest.
