Here in the United States, approximately 5 million animals are euthanized in shelters each year.That cute little puppy at the pet store likely came from a “puppy mill” where the living conditions for the mother are horrendous.Maybe this ain’t the most disturbing thing in America, but it’s up there.

I wish they were in my state. North Carolina, especially east of I 95 has many.The larger operations are targeted by the ASPCA,etc, but the smaller mom and pops abound. The conditions I have seen are deplorable. Chicken wire cages. Non existent vet care. The bitches dumped off at our many state sponsored kill shelters when they have been bred out, used up by the ripe old age of 5 or 6.Most pet store sell such puppies. They won't tell you, but if it's a “"pure bred” anything on sale, it's from a puppy mill. They do it because people buy them, period. Such puppies very often have difficult lives, which is not surprising given the filth, disease, and neglect they were born into.Where are the laws to protect these poor animals and you, the pet buying public? They exist, but are poorly enforced. Unless there is a complaint, nothing is done…& these scumbags do their best to hide their operations.Want to help? Don't buy from pet shops. See the entirety of the breeders operation, not just what they might choose to show you. Suspect a puppy mill? Please report it and follow up to make sure something was done. These operations exist because people buy their product. Please, spread the word.This is a puppy mill rescue. Bred out at maybe six years of age. Her vagina proplased and she was dumped. She was someones pet once, we are sure, but ended up in a chicken wire, back yard puppy mill. She came to us as a foster, but never left. It took her five years to play, seven to sleep like this. She has severe separation anxiety. Having to take her to the vet is still a terrifying experience for her. She will have bladder issues the rest of her life. I just don't know how anyone could have not loved this one. We just can't help it.
